???? 4K Cab ride from the city depot to a panorama of the alps (Switzerland | S3 Zürich - Wetzikon)

Welcome aboard the S3 service on this early spring morning! Our train is parked in the depot Zurich Herdern in the middle of Zurich and we are getting ready for our upcoming trip to Wetzikon. It takes roughly half an hour to fully check and prepare a train of this type and length. This includes an exterior walkaround, checking the train protection systems in both cabs at the train ends, checking the brakes and data input for the trains cab radio and protection system.

Now that we're ready, you'll experience the whole run from the depot into Zurich Highlands, where a fantastic panoramic view over the Alps awaits us! Until we are there, we pass through the center of Zurich and will soon reach Effretikon. There we will turn into our single track section with lower speeds, shorter platforms (200m instead of the usual 300m on the ZVV network) and fantastic views. Enjoy the ride!

Sorry about the blue-yellow shifting in the beginning from the camera, it will stop soon. The squeaking is not the chair, but the whole locomotive. It happens ;-)

Locomotive: SLM Re 450 / DPZ

Zurich Main Station
Zurich Stadelhofen

SWISS CHOCOLATE - SPRUNGLI AND LADERACH | Things to do in Zurich, Switzerland

A quick day, and an overnight layover, in Zurich, Switzerland - known as one of the most expensive cities in the world! So, what are some things to do in Zurich, Switzerland (during a layover)?

Thankfully our good friend Patrick took care of my layover and becoming my Zurich Travel Guide!

I started off right and got myself the Zurich Card, which gives you a free access and discounts to many Zurich Attractions, as well as to public transportation!

For more on Zurich Card:

I met up with our good friends Patrick and Julia, who lives in Herrliberg - a small, affluent community by the Lake Zurich shore. It is simply a beautiful place - and after catching up with them, Patrick and I hopped onto the Lake Zurich ferry to get back to the city center to start a small walking tour in Zurich.

There are several things to see in Zurich, including Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse. In the train station, I managed to check out the two famous Swiss chocolate shops - Sprüngli and Chocolatier Läderach.

I got three truffles to taste from Läderach Bahnhofstrasse. All are very tasty and rich.

For more on Läderach, here's their website:

For dinner, I visited Zurich's most famous vegetarian restaurant, the Hiltl Zurich. The food selection was quite impressive and eclectic - and all of the dishes are vegetarian. Don't forget to weight your plate before sitting down for correct charging.

★ 4K ????????Cab ride Pfäffikon SZ - Wetzikon - Zürch HB - Affoltern am Albis - Zug, Switzerland [06.2021]

In this video, we accompany the S5, an S-Bahn (commuter train) in the region around Zürich in sunny weather. We start in Pfäffikon in the Kanton of Schwyz, where we travel along a short section of the Südostbahn railway, crossing the lake of Zürich to Rapperswil. From there we take the Glatthalbahn to Zürich main station.
From Zürich there are two direct ways to get to Zug (not including the Sihltalbahn). One is via Thalwil, where InterCity services to Luzern and Lugano travel. The other is via Affoltern am Albis, which is a mostly single tracked line that branches off the mainline in Zürich Altstetten. That is the way we will be travelling today (see the map at 0:57). There's actually quite a nice vista of the alps around Luzern on our way to Zug that the camera doesn't really do justice to.

Links to other videos will be added as the videos are completed.

How to get to town from Zurich Airport by train

This video shows you how to go to the city centre from Zurich Airport. The airport is served by frequent train services by Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS), the tickets of which can be bought as soon as you reach the baggage reclaim hall. A single Second Class train ticket costs only CHF 6.80. Simply go straight on when you enter the Arrival Hall and you will reach the Airport Centre, where the train station can be found in the basement.

There are no ticket gates in the station, but there will be inspectors on the train, so be sure to have a ticket with you. Before boarding, you should validate your ticket by folding it once and sticking it into the orange machines in the platforms. Double decker trains are used, and will arrive at the Zurich HB (Hauptbahnhof, Main Station) in around 10 minutes. This has got to be the fastest and most cost effective way to get into town at an expensive city like Zurich.

September-Wochenende jeweils tausende Menschen an.

???? 4K Cab ride from Southern Germany to Switzerland on an autumn morning (IR75 Konstanz (D) - Zurich)

The last time we were on this line, everything was covered in snow. Now it's time for an autumn morning ride! Welcome aboard the InterRegio 75, connecting Konstanz/Constance to Lucerne. We are in Southern Germany and will drive through Eastern Switzerland in order to reach Zurich, where the train will change its direction of travel and continue further to Lucerne. Since it is a cold autumn morning, the rails covered in dew and you will notice the locomotive wheels slipping at times. There's not much we can do about it, plus the Re 460 has very slippery wheels when compared to older locomotives. That however does make it much quieter. It goes to show that a train is heavily influenced by weather and humidity and we as drivers have to adapt to these conditions. Nevertheless, we make it to our destination safe and on time. Enjoy the ride!

★ 4K ????????Zürich HB - Pfäffikon ZH - Wetzikon cab ride Switzerland [06.2021]

Join us today on a train from Zürich main station into the Zürich highlands. In Effretikon (16:20), we branch off the mainline onto the Kempttalbahn, which was opened to traffic in 1876. Keeping the opening dates of European railways in mind while travelling is often quite mesmerising.

As a railway enthusiast, I thoroughly enjoy lines that show signs of their age. This is one of those lines, with many older catenary masts and ageing bridges. Unfortunately I couldn't find as much information about some of the bridges as I would've liked to include.

This is the first video on this channel in a first generation Zürich S-Bahn train. We find ourselves in the locomotive (Re 450 - the first large series of GTO thyristor locomotives built in Switzerland). The microphone was place in the engine room, which enables us to clearly hear the unique sound the thyristors make. A train consists of a locomotive and 3 double decker carriages, one of which was newly built to enable wheelchair access in accordance with new standards. The carriages that were replaced were formed into peak hour trains, with a pair of specially adapted Re 420 locomotives, as seen at 27:59.

???? 4K Cab ride from Schaffhausen over the Rhine Falls to Zürich (Switzerland | S24 Thayngen - Zürich)

Welcome aboard the S24 service! Our trip starts in Thayngen, which is the northernmost station in Switzerland, but operated by DB. Unlike other lines in the region of Schaffhausen, the S24 never touches German territory, but operates on the german DB network with their own regulations and German signalling up until Schaffhausen. This also requires the driver to hold a permit for the German railways, which makes the S24 unique in the Zurich S-Bahn system. It is also one of the very few S-Bahn Zurich lines that serve the main hall in Zurich, but the only one that continues further from there. Again we will be on top of the legendary Rhine Falls, one of the biggest waterfalls in Europe, followed by a ride under the famous Schloss (castle) Laufen am Rheinfall.

This cab ride will cover the part from Thayngen to Zurich. If you‘re interested in the route between Zug and Zurich, you may watch it here:

Trains in Altdorf, Switzerland

The Altdorf railway station is in Canton of Uri in central Switzerland. It is a few kilometers north of the Gotthard Base tunnel. The new railway station was built from 2019 to 2021. In this video you ca see Intercitiy trains from Zurich to Lugano. The Treno Gottardo is a train from Basel or Zurich to Locarno. Some local trains connect the cities of Lucerne and Zug with Erstfeld. Not all trains stop in Altdorf, because it is a small town with a population of about 9.400. The Altdorf railway station is an ideal spot for train spotters, because you can see many cargo trains.

Lake Zurich, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, Europe

Lake Zürich is a lake in Switzerland, extending southeast of the city of Zürich. It is also known as the Lake of Zürich. It lies approximately at co-ordinates 47°15′N 8°41′E. Zürichsee is strictly the name of the part of the lake downstream of the dam at Rapperswil, mostly located within the canton of Zürich. The part upstream of the Rapperswil dam is called Obersee, and is shared between the cantons of St. Gallen and Schwyz. Geographically, Lake Zürich is located in the southwestern part of the canton of Zürich. To the east separated by Zürichberg-Adlisberg, Forch and Pfannenstiel are two minor lakes: Greifensee (Lake Greifen) and Pfäffikersee (Lake Pfäffikon). Zimmerberg and the Etzel regions lie to the west. Lake Zürich is formed by the river Linth, which rises in the glaciers of the Tödi Range in Glarus and was diverted by the Escher canal (completed in 1811) into Lake Walen from where its waters are carried to the east end of Lake Zürich by means of the Linth canal (completed in 1816). The waters of the Lake of Zürich flow out of the lake at its north-west end, passing through the city of Zürich; however, the outflow is then called the Limmat. No streams of importance flow into the lake besides the Linth. It is included, or the greater portion, in the Canton of Zürich, but at its easterly end about 20 square kilometres (8 sq mi) towards the southern shore are in Canton of Schwyz, and 10 square kilometres (4 sq mi) towards its northern shore in Canton of St. Gallen. The large masonry dam (the Seedamm), carrying a railway line and road from Rapperswil to Pfäffikon, divides the lake. The eastern section of the lake is known as the Obersee, German for upper lake. West of this dam lie the small islands of Lützelau and Ufenau, where in 1523 Ulrich von Hutten took refuge and died. Both shores are well cultivated and fertile. Another touristic destination is the Au peninsula at the village of Au between Wädenswil and Horgen. The three population and transportation centres are Zürich, Pfäffikon SZ and Rapperswil. Besides Bürkliplatz in Zürich and the Seedamm, there are no bridges across the lake. The Zürichsee-Schifffahrtsgesellschaft the Lake Zürich Navigation Company provides with its 17 passenger ships touristic services on Lake Zürich. There are a number of passenger ferry services, noticeably the Horgen--Meilen ferry, an auto ferry between Horgen and Meilen. Zürich, at the north-western end of the lake, is the largest city on Lake Zürich. On the west shore (which gradually becomes the south shore) are Thalwil, Horgen, Wädenswil, Richterswil, Pfäffikon, and Lachen. On the opposite shore are Küsnacht, Meilen, Stäfa, and Rapperswil-Jona with the medieval town of Rapperswil, whose castle is home to the Polish museum. Schmerikon is close to the east end of the lake, and a little further east is the larger town of Uznach. Lake Zürich's water is very clean and reaches, during summer, temperatures well beyond 20 °C (68 °F). Swimming in the public baths and beaches is very popular. The lake's water is purified and fed into Zürich's water system; it is potable.
