In the 1860s to the early 1900's, Echuca was a bustling port with paddlesteamers ferrying people and goods all through the the Murray, Darling and Murrumbidgee River systems.
Accommodation :
By the early 1970's, the port was derelict and unused. The council of the day decided that its paddlesteamer heritage was unique and started restoration of the port.
Today the paddlesteamers are making a comeback. Many old sunken boats are being repaired to their former glory.
Kevin Hutchinson is a Shipwright who has played a large role in the paddlesteamer revival.
Echuca is a great example of how rural towns can use their heritage to establish tourism.

No plan, nothing booked, just go and see where the road would take us, we avoided main roads wherever possible and in our travels got to see many small towns each with their own interesting stories and characters. If we can do it so can you, you just need to stop finding reasons why you can't, get off the couch and start to live life to the fullest, it'll be the best thing you've done

In this video, I am taking you to Echuca, a town situated in the Northern part of the state of Victoria. This town serves a historic legacy as it originated to be an inland port in 1850's ferrying supplies throughout Australia via the Murray River.
But eventually the cargo transport on the river through the Port of Echuca ceased in the early 1900's. Since then, the agriculture and tourism have developed as Echuca's major industries.
It was a delightful experience to see hoe the town maintained its historic originals, roaming around at least took us back to the years. We also have seen the existing paddle steamers that cater tourists experiencing the length of the Murray River.

A quick walk through the historical part of Echuca, located along Sydney Melbourne Heritage Drive, part of the Sydney Melbourne Touring experience!
EP62: First Trip in our Opus - Exploring Echuca
Our first proper outing in our Opus OP4 sees us head up to the VIC/NSW border towns of Echuca and Moama.
We make the most of the King's Birthday weekend and jump in the car straight after work, driving up to Echuca Moama, with Archie joining us to see how we all enjoy our new Opus camper trailer. The OP4 fits snugly into our small garage, and takes no time to hitch up and get on the road.
We stay at Moama Waters caravan park as our base for exploring (we haven't yet installed our inverter or hot water system so staying in powered sites untill we've got all the gear).
This episode includes a quick initial tour of the camper trailer (detailed videos of set up and walkthrough to come shortly), and we venture out into Echuca, visiting the historic port area, going on an original paddlesteamer and the must-visit Aussie Beer Shed!
