Off the Beaten Path. Next Level Obscure 44 Trails. Cedar Creek to Underhill.

Located East of Mount Hood, the Cedar Creek trail is one of the least ridden of the 44 trails since the most obvious route involves climbing out after descending and most people don't want to do that. This loop at least takes away the backtrack up the Lookout Mountain trail using the Underhill Trail as the return. It's still a climb, but at least it's different.

SNOW LAKE TRAIL | Day Hiking Guide For Snow Lake Trail in Snoqualmie

The Snow Lake Trail is one of our favorite day hikes in Washington State! It is easily accessible from the Seattle area as the trailhead is located in the Alpental parking lot at Snoqualmie Pass. The trail was about 6.8 miles long round trip and took us 4 hours to complete, including stops for food and pictures. Snow Lake was beautiful and there were many vantage points from above and at lake level during this hike. Overall, we would consider the Snow Lake hike easy to moderate compared to other Washington day hikes. The effort vs. reward is great since it's not too steep and relatively gradual incline for most of the hike until you get to the final switchbacks. Though the trail is rocky throughout and we do recommend bringing good hiking shoes and lots of water. Enjoy the Snow Lake trail!

Hiking To Snow Lakes

A great July hike to Snow Lakes in the Alpine Wilderness of the Okanogan/Wenatchee National Forest. Trailhead is just east of Leavenworth, Washington. It is a 16 mile out and back hike with so much great scenery. You will also pass Lake Nada which is about a mile before Snow Lakes.

Crystal Lakes via PCT to Dewey Lakes, Mt. Rainier NP - W.O. Douglas Wilderness Area, WA 060615

This was a 20+ mile day hike that I had wanted to do for some time and finally decided to take advantage of the low snow pack and long days to hike the Crystal Lakes trail over to the PCT via Sourdough Gap, Sheep Lake, Chinook Pass and on to Dewey Lakes and return via the Naches Peak Loop trail to Tipsoo Lake and continue back the way I came in from Chinook Pass. This took just a bit over 11 hours to cover. It's amazing how losing nearly 40 pounds in 5 months can make traveling easier! The weather was a bit warm, but water was still plentiful (using a purifier) to refill my bottles. I have hiked this before in seperate trips -Crystal Lakes to Sourdough Gap, Chinook Pass to Sourdough Gap & Chinook Pass to Dewey Lakes (both PCT & Nachees Loop) and though it would be fun to do this in one trek - now I know! There were lots of other hikers on this day on the PCT from Sheep Lake to the junction of the Naches Peak Loop trail, but few hikers elsewhere, especially Crystal Lakes trail.

I did not note any features in this video, so those not familiar to this area, here is a list in order of the main features in this video along the way from the trail head:

Crystal Creek

Junction of trail to Crystal Peak

Junction to Lower Crystal Lake camp area (did not go to lake)

Upper Crystal Lake

Park boundary & Cascade divide

Pacific Crest Trail junction

Sourdough Gap (featured in thumbnail)

Sheep Lake

Chinook Pass parking area - and PCT bridge over SR 410 (which also marks the Mt. Rainier NP / Okanogon - Wenatchee NF , Pierce / Yakima Counties, Eastern / Western Washington & Cowlitz River / Yakima River [both Columbia River] watershed dividing lines)

Junction of Naches Peak Loop trail

Low pitched call of Blue Grouse

Dewey Lakes ( East [big] and West [small])

Return on Naches Peak Loop trail

Tarn w/ Mt. Rainier on Loop trail

Tipsoo Lake

Return to Chinook Pass

Happy trails!
