Welcome to Phase vii of the Expedition Log Series! In this episode, we head back out onto Long Island (ugh) to visit the now vacant Sunrise Mall. This mall has seen it all, from incredible dark-wood 70's aesthetics to crazed ducks weaponizing their out of control cloacas, swooping and diving at shoppers in the late 1980's-1990's. Once selling for a whopping $140,000,000, this property is now worth about $10mil, and awaiting redevelopment. Come take a walk with me!

Fall Colors Are Now Showing in Massapequa Preserve
A nice afternoon for a walk at Massapequa Preserve where the Swamp Maples are finally changing to that brilliant color, although you will still see a number of trees that haven't changed yet. Unlike yesterday a nice sea breeze kept things cooler as temps dropped into the upper 60s by afternoon on the South Shore. I first walk around the main lake then head to the south side which is definitely less traveled and has some big old Pitch Pines, and in this area it feels more like the Pine Barrens further east than Massapequa!
