Yugoslav Spomeniks (Part 8): Fruška Gora, the Jewel of Serbia
1 - 6. September 2023. Serbia (Србија). Vojvodina (Војводина) Province. Fruška Gora (Фрушка гора) is a mountain in Syrmia known for truffles, wine, monasteries, and beautiful towns and villages. In all the years driving past or through it, never stopped and paid attention. Until now.
So I took the FJ on a short mountain road trip looking for Yugoslav-era spomeniks (monuments). You'll see (15) of them in this video. The spomeniks are World War II memorial sculptures that were part of a grand project of Tito's to unify socialist Yugoslavia in the aftermath of the NOB. Estimates put the number of such spomeniks built at up to 40,000. These communist works of art are unique and beautiful and often abandoned.

#103S - Serbia, Novi Sad Tour #1/5 - Belgrade centre to Batajnica centre (09/2013)
And finally, my very first multi-day ride is here! Such a special occasion that I have decided to redesign the movies and to finally (!) introduce a real proper intro! As always, designed and made totally by me, with the great intro music by Tea Break. Of course. :)
As for the ride, through its 5 parts (most likely ;)) I will take you from Belgrade to Novi Sad, but the long way, along the Danube. Through Batajnica, then Novi and Stari Banovci, Belegiš, Surduk, Stari Slankamen, Krčedin, Beška, Čortanovci, Banstol and Sremski Karlovci to Novi Sad, then around Petrovaradin and the centre, before going to Zrenjanin! And then a nice villages Ečka and Stajićevo, to reach Belgrade again, from the other side of the Danube!
So, that will all happen in the next 5 movies and about 320 km. The first part, however, is just a warmup, with a nice ride from Branko's bridge in Belgrade centre, through parts of Novi Beograd (some not seen before) and Zemun, straight to Batajnica. Not overly eventful part of the ride (except I almost get killed twice, a woman almost gets killed on a zebra... ;)). Still, very nice, informative, easy, totally flat and mostly through beautiful scenery.
Of course, you are most welcome to comment on the intro/outro which took A LOT of work and time (I may lack some skills and I surely lack a fast computer). It's here to stay, so I hope you like it. :)
My special greeting goes to: people designing (and building) roads with bends and turns. :) They are much more interesting to ride and far safer, due to lower speeds and drivers' intense focus.
