Making Jipijapa Panama Hats (Bécal Campeche México)
I’m Allison, the boss lady of TexMex Fun Stuff. Today you and I are going to visit the Panama Hat Capital of Mexico, Bécal, Campeche.
Here in this small town panama hats are called “Jipijapas”, pronounced hippie-hahpahs. They are sombreros which have been hand made here for generations.
Follow me as I climb down into caves and learn how the tradition of making these hats was born in Bécal, Campeche, México.

Desde la ciudad capital de Campeche, se conduce sobre la Carretera Federal No. 261, con dirección al noreste hasta el poblado de Dzibalchén. Al llegar al entronque se toma el desvío hacía Chenkó; poco antes de llegar se dirige al camino que concluye en la zona arqueológica de Hochob de la cultura maya, distante 4 km del entronque.
Costo de acceso: $45 para nacionales.
