Welcome to the Beautiful City of Paris ... China

Paris—without people? No, this isn't an apocalypse. This is Paris ... in China. The city of Tianducheng was created as a replica of the French capital during China's economic boom in the early 2000s. Originally built for 10,000 inhabitants, only 2,000 now live there full-time. But you know what they say: imitation is the highest form of flattery.

The Unknown and Forgotten Place of Buddha : Where Buddha Descended from Heaven

In Sankissa Buddha descended from heaven after preaching Abhidhamma to his mother and the assembly of Devas in the Trayastrimsa heaven. Buddha ascended into the Trayastrimsa heaven after performing the Twin Miracles at Sravasti. After spending three months on a rainy retreat in heaven, he informed Sakka, the king of Gods, about his intention of returning to earth. Sakka created three ladders; one made out of gold another of silver and the third made out of jewels. The top of each ladder was placed on the peak of Mount Meru and the bottom was at the gate of Sankissa city. Buddha descended upon the jewelled ladder, the gods and Brahmas accompanying him on each side, with the gods taking the gold ladder and Brahma the silver ladder. The miracle was witnessed by a large crowd of people at the gate of Sankissa and the location of Buddha’s descent from heaven became a very important pilgrimage destination.
This is the place where Buddha descended from heaven. It remained lost for centuries and even after it was rediscovered it remained neglected and forgotten. Why one of the eight greatest places of Buddhist pilgrimage has been ignored and forgotten.
Once it was one of the most visited Buddhist destinations in the world. Today it may be just another small village in some remote part of India but at the time of Buddha, it was one of the largest cities in the country.
Sankissa is located in the village of Basantpur in Farrukhabad district of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Xuanzang, the famous Chinese scholar who visited Sankissa in the seventh century mentions that there were several large monasteries present in the city which housed more than 1000 monks and nuns. He mentions that the monasteries were heavily decorated and had beautiful images of Buddha and Bodhisattvas.

Stormy Weather in Hangzhou China

After visiting Cheng Du Cheng in Hangzhou (last weeks video) we had one more day left there before going to Huangshan (Yellow Mountains). On this day we visited the West Lake and the weather turned bad on us in the blink of an eye! Eventually the mountains that surround the lake weren't even visible anymore :o

На моем пути Париж.... или нет? Китайцы копируют не только всякую продукцию, но и целые города. Чего точно не стоит делать - так это делать выводы не досмотрев видео до конца!

Chumig Gyatse, often referred to as the Holy Waterfalls, graces the vicinity of Damting village in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh. As a cornerstone of spiritual reverence, it is deeply interwoven with the Monpa community's Buddhist practices.

Location: Nestled near the India-China borderline, Chumig Gyatse offers more than spiritual solace; its enchanting landscapes capture the hearts of wanderers and devotees alike.

Significance: Legend has it that the 6th Dalai Lama, Tsangyang Gyatso, sanctified the waterfalls with his blessings during a visit, elevating its status to a sacred site. For the predominantly Buddhist Monpa community of Tawang, this locale serves as a cherished pilgrimage destination.

Accessibility: Tawang's strategic location near the border makes it relatively secluded. Although connected by roadways, the undulating terrains may pose travel challenges, but the region's allure compensates for it. Prior to embarking on a journey here, one must ensure they adhere to the necessary permit requirements due to its adjacency to the India-China border.

A segment of the less-trodden North-Eastern quadrant of India, Arunachal Pradesh unfolds as a treasure trove of untouched beauty and profound cultural narratives. Visitors to this enclave are encouraged to tread with respect for the indigenous traditions and an ethos of responsible travel.

In the same enchanting realm lies the Tsechu hot spring, a tranquil oasis approximately a six-hour drive from Tawang town. For those intrigued by a blend of vehicular journey and trekking, a three-hour drive to Sarong Gonpa followed by a picturesque four-hour trek through panoramic vistas and mesmerizing valleys is the way to go. Post a soothing dip in the therapeutic spring, the Tourist Lodge at Tsechu stands ready to welcome guests, presenting a perfect blend of comfort and nature's splendor.

Saka Dawa, Prikrama at Swyombunath

Saka Dawa Fullmoon (9th June 2017) is called the month of merits for Buddhists. Dawa means month in Tibetan, and Saga or Saka is the name of a star prominent in the sky during the fourth lunar month of the Buddhist calendar. This is a month especially dedicated to making merit.
Buddhist lunar months begin and end with a new moon. The full moon day that falls in the middle of the month is Saga Dawa Duchen; great occasion” to commemorating Shakyamuni Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing into parinirvana.
For Buddhists, the month of Saga Dawa is the most auspicious time for meritorious actions. On Saka Dawa Duchen the merits of worthy acts are multiplied 100,000 times.
Meritorious acts include pilgrimages to sacred places such as venerated monasteries, temples and Stupas by walking clockwise around the holy site. During Saka Dawa month people make merit, especially giving donations to temples or to individual monks and nuns. During Saka Dawa, it's also auspicious to give money to beggars. Traditionally, beggars line the roads on Saka Dawa Duchen knowing they are certain to receive something.
The lighting of butter lamps is a common devotional practice.
The Mananges community has been organizing free breakfast to the devotees at Syombunath, since many years.

Bhutan || Timelapse || Land of the Thunder Dragon ||

Bhutan || Timelapse || Land of the Thunder Dragon ||

Bhutan, a Buddhist kingdom on the Himalayas’ eastern edge, is known for its monasteries, fortresses (or dzongs), and dramatic landscapes that range from subtropical plains to steep mountains and valleys. In the High Himalayas, peaks such as 7,326m Jomolhari are popular trekking destinations. Paro Taktsang monastery (also known as Tiger’s Nest) clings to cliffs above the forested Paro Valley.

There’s a place on earth, perhaps one of the last, where nature and humans exist as one; the government prioritizes happiness, and conservation of the land and wildlife is so important, laws are in place to protect it. Welcome to Bhutan, the last great “Shangri-La,” the last great oasis.

Entering into the grounds of Bhutan is like traversing into a dream. Time seems to slow. The wind breathes through the Himalayas, through the torn prayer-flags lining the high passes, and out through the breaths of chanting monks. Tigers creep through the backcountry, black-necked cranes glide above; the slow crawl of traffic weaves through one designated lane. Everything lives in one harmonious existence. This is a nation with people who welcome you like family. And for those fortunate enough to visit, it will feel like coming home.

ON THE KINGDOM OF BHUTAN
Landlocked by China, Tibet, and India, the Buddhist Kingdom of Bhutan finds its home nestled on the eastern edge of the Himalayas. The country is known for its dramatic and varying landscapes — vast forests, sweeping valleys, and snowy mountains — which span an area of almost 40,000 square kilometers. Ancient dzongs (fortresses) and ornamental monasteries, including that of the cliff-hanging Tiger’s Nest, are also stunning and well-known fixtures of the country. Culture, sustainability, and deeply-rooted consciousness are prominent values that cling to every aspect of the country and day-to-day life here.

ON THE COUNTRY'S ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS
Bhutan's devotion to the environment lies at the root of everything. In 2008, the country created a constitution establishing that a minimum of sixty percent of the country’s land must always be covered by forests. Currently, more than seventy percent of the area is forested. Protection efforts extend to the land’s inhabitants as well; laws are in place making it illegal to hunt or trap wildlife. Thanks to these protections, red pandas, tigers, and almost 800 species of birds can thrive in Bhutan's rich biodiversity. As a result of these conservation endeavors, Bhutan is the only carbon-negative country in the world, meaning that it absorbs more carbon than it produces — four times more, in fact.

ON BEING THE HAPPIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD
Bhutan is considered the “happiest country” in the world, based off an economic principle known as “Gross National Happiness” (GNH). The term was first coined in 1972 by the fourth king of Bhutan who wanted to ensure that the Bhutanese quality of life was given the same importance as the country's increasing development and growing economy.

So how do you measure happiness? The government surveys nine domains — categories that encompass wellbeing, culture, environment, education, and good governance — every few years and a single number, derived from further sub-indexes and indicators, is calculated based on the results. One incredible outcome of GNH is it shows that true, sustaining happiness is created by a sense of purpose.

Chiang Rai, Thailand - Temples and Long Neck Tribes People

On our trip to Thailand, we head to Chiang Rai. The day prior on Christmas, we meet up with some friends who also happened to be in Thailand while we were there. We had a delicious multi course dinner which exposed us to many different Thai cuisines. Through out the dinner, they kept topping off our champagne and different colored wines, all from Thai vineyards. It was one of the most unique Christmas's ever.

On our way to Chiang Rai, we found a hot spring. The town was built all around the sulphuric eruptions, and there was lot of places to sir down next to the streams and submerge your legs.

Our first visit in Chiang Rai was the Wat Rong Khun or the White Temple. It's in the style of a Buddhist temple. It is owned, designed, and constructed by Chalermchai Kositpipat. In the video, I show the bridge of the cycle of rebirth: the main building at the white temple, the ubosot, is reached by crossing a bridge over a small lake. In front of the bridge are hundreds of outreaching hands that symbolize unrestrained desire. The bridge proclaims that the way to happiness is by foregoing temptation, greed, and desire. Next to the lake stand two very elegant Kinnaree, half-human, half-bird creatures from Buddhist mythology.

Our second visit was at Wat Rong Suea Ten, or Blue Temple. Unlike at the White Temple, visitors are allowed to take photographs of the viharn’s interior. Inside, at the end of the great hall, a colossal white Buddha statue in the Bhumisparsha Mudra position sits framed by towering filigreed columns. His legs are crossed and his right hand points to the ground, the gesture of touching the earth, representing the moment Buddha attained enlightenment. This temple had really cool naga statues, and to me, had more interesting art.

A short drive from the middle of Chiang Rai city, Baan Dam (Black House) is the unique creation of national artist, Thawan Duchanee. Part art studio, part museum, part home, Baan Dam is an eclectic mix of traditional northern Thai buildings interspersed with some outlandish modern designs. Baan Dam is a thought-provoking combination of sanuk, the surreal and the sombre and whilst it’s fair to say that some of the artwork and themes on display won’t be to everybody’s liking, this guy really thought penis were lucky items. We learned that penis' in Thai culture are not taboo or dirty, but a welcomed gesture. For example, they can be gifted to one another, and also, when Thai's go to job interviews, they would keep a penis trinket in their pocket for good luck.

Finally, we visited a Karen Long Neck village, one of the most exotic experiences on the planet. They use brass rings for exaggerated jewelry they helps elongate the appearance of their necks, it's something better seen in person than in a book. We had ethical questions if it would feel like human zoos, and unfortunately, I kind of feel like it was. I feel bad for how they live, and essentially voluntarily exploit themselves to make money off of their traditions. I suppose the money they are making off of us is really helping out their situation.
