Kosovo STREET FOOD Breakfast in DRAGASH VILLAGE!! Driving from Brod to Prizren, Kosova

???? HOTEL CENTRUM:
???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS:

As the fourth day of my Albania/Kosovo trip kicked off, I hit the ground running to explore more of Kosovo! Come along with me as I grab some authentic Kosovo street food for breakfast and then drive from Brod to Prizren!

???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

My day began in Dragash village, which is the halfway point between Brod and my next destination, Prizren. My boy Erjan from Travel Media EU and I got an early start at seven a.m. because we had a jam-packed day ahead of us!

I had a hankering for some byrek, so we stopped at a shop called Extra, which sold byrek and lots of other Balkan favorites and coffee. It was a small shop with three tables. I got to watch them make some sweets.

Erjan and I started with some Turkish coffee and two different byreks: one with meat and another with cheese. We had some yogurt on the side. The byrek had been pre-cut into pieces. I loved the dough, which was really unique and tasted different from other byreks I’d had.

The meat byrek contained minced meat and was light, flaky, and airy. Meanwhile, the yogurt was liquidy and super tasty. The coffee, byrek, and yogurt went together really well. After you drink your Turkish coffee, you flip your cup over onto your saucer and someone can tell your future by reading the dregs.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have any Kosovo currency on me. Unlike Albania, which uses lekes, in Kosovo, they use Euros. I needed to find an ATM to pay the shop owner! As we hunted for an ATM, we came across a statue of Adem Jashari, one of the founders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who died in 1998.

We also came across a small market where you can buy household supplies like combs, lighters, batteries, a broom, an axe, and homemade honey. It’s a true local experience in a small town. I found a bank and got my money, and then we continued on to Prizren!

The views we had as we drove along the road to Prizren were unbelievable. The expanses of countryside, farmland, and mountains was just stunning!

Prizren is the country’s second-largest city after the capital, Pristina. After we arrived in town, we passed a massive vegetable market. There were also lots 10-story buildings and lots of advertisements and commercial spaces.

We entered the Old Town. On our right was the Prizren River, which goes through the middle of the city. The road to get to our hotel was very winding and full of slopes. We passed by lots of cafés and hotels along the way. Erjan told me that this is his favorite Kosovar city, and that everything—shopping, restaurants, bars, mosques, churches—is located within walking distance.

We arrived at Hotel Centrum, and I headed up to Room 312. I had a nice, clean bathroom, a closet, desk, TV, two twin beds, and a balcony with an amazing view over Prisren. I could see seven minarets from there!

What a morning! I couldn’t wait to get out and explore Prizren over the next 24 hours!

Welcome to the Republic of Kosovo,
I’m Tais, and I’m here in PRIZREN, the capital city.
Prizren was largely spared during the Balkan wars.
Coming here has given me a better understanding of its history, culture and its people.
This place is marvelous; I was not expecting to see it during a pandemic
Adapting to new situations, visiting new places makes us more global and culturally aware.
It keeps our mind sharp and helps with personal growth
I remember watching the breakup of Yugoslavia,
The resultant war on TV, too young to understand its extent at the time.
Finally, the chance to see this country came about, and I would be able to share it with you with my own eyes.
I thought Prizren well worth a visit, and the view from the castle, outstanding
Given that it’s not on the list of most popular tourist destinations.
It has excellent potential to be one of the top 10.
Kosovans are an incredibly resilient bunch, and we can learn a lot from them.

Eventually, most of us forget and move on.
Perhaps we can all relate to that a little in our own lives.

PRIZREN! KOSOVO'S MOST BEAUTIFUL CITY (Cultural Travel Guide to Prizren) #prizren #kosovo

Famous as the birthplace of the League of Prizren in the late 19th century, 21st century Prizren is arguably Kosovo's tourist capital. Thankfully, the Kosovo conflict left the historic core of Prizren largely intact and both visitors and locals can enjoy lazy walks by the river, crossing and re-crossing the ancient bridges and relaxing in the myriad of cafes. A late afternoon walk up to the Prizren Fortress allows for captivating views across the city to the mountains that border Albania and Macedonia.

In this film I provide a brief outline of the history of this historic trading city and, of course, the founding of the League of Prizren and its lasting legacy.

I stayed at the Hotel Prior which I would highly recommend for its location, friendly staff and delicious breakfasts!

Authentic KOSOVO FOOD in PRIZREN!! Shopping & Snack Tour | Prizren, Kosovo

???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS:

The fourth day of my Albania/Kosovo trip continued with an afternoon exploring the beautiful city of Prizren, Kosovo! Come with me as I try authentic Kosovo food in Prizren, Kosovo and go on an epic shopping and snack tour!

???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

We began our adventure later that morning in Prizren, which is said to be the most beautiful city in the country. It’s an ancient city but became important during the Ottoman period. There are lots of cobblestone streets, incredible architecture, and lots of mosques. I couldn’t wait to explore the city and eat!

My boy Erjan and I headed to some of the local shops. Our first stop was Tetova, a shop that sells sweets and has been around since 1956! They sell jellies, sours, nuts, dates, gummies, and more! I tried some salty, roasted nuts, some crunchy walnuts, and some delicious gummies!

Next, we stopped at a fountain at the very center of Prizren. People say you’ll stay in Prizren forever if you drink from the fountain! The way you stay there is by marrying a local girl. The water was fresh and cold!

Our next stop was Uje Dukati, a perfume shop which sells oils from around the world! The owner is from Kosovo but his father was from Syria. His shop smelled amazing. He made some eau de parfum for us right in front of us by mixing oil, water, and alcohol! Then, he sprayed some on me! He even kindly gave me some for free!

Then, we visited Luli Filigran, which has been around since 1968. This is a jewelry shop that makes beautiful handmade items. They had a lot of items for women and a few things for men, like the Albanian double eagle. He also imports from other places around the world. I bought a couple of filigrans for my daughters!

Next, we visited a sewing shop run by a man who has been sewing for 60 years! It’s so rare to find a sewing shop on the main street of a city these days. He used a 60-year-old iron and a 100-year-old ironing board! They only charge one Euro to fix a ripped item of clothing.

For lunch, we headed to Tiffany National Restaurant. Along the way, we passed lots of cafes and restaurants on the main boulevard. There were also lots of buildings with amazing architecture and two-story buildings, homes, and commercial spaces.

Here, they sell traditional Kosovo food. They had an open-air kitchen and a terrace outside with grape vines on top. I watched them make salad with cabbage, beans, cheese, grilled peppers on the coals, bread, some tavas, and more! I also couldn’t wait to try the meat! Everything looked so good!

At our table, we had two tavas, soup, meat, raki, and more. The raki was nice and smooth. Our appetizers included ivar (roasted red pepper paste), cheese with dill, salad (with cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, and beans), meatballs, and creamy peppers with cheese. The peppers were super spicy! Everything was farm-to-table, so it was super fresh!

The cheese with dill was super nice, and the ivar on the bread was unreal! The garlic, carrot, and cheese paste was also spicy and amazing! We also had dolmas, Elbasan tava, a meat-and-veg tava, and mantia.

The Elbasan tava was so creamy! I loved the veal and cheese. The mantia contained dough, meat, and yogurt, and the dolma contained cheese and was baked in the oven. Baking it gave it a smoky flavor and completely changed everything! The veal, tomato, and carrot tava fell apart in my mouth!

The meat patties with onion were smoky and juicy and blew my mind. The chef did an incredible job! Finally, for dessert, we had baklava, a delicious layered Ottoman dessert. It was sweet and contained ora, a honey-like syrup. So good!

Then, we headed back out. What a phenomenal meal!

Traveling to KOSOVO!! The LAND of DUA LIPA & RITA ORA!!

???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE ALBANIA SHIRTS:

After traveling through the areas of northern Albania that I missed on my first trip, my buddy Erjan and I set off on a road trip to my 79th country, Kosovo! Come with us on our latest Balkan adventure: traveling to Kosovo, Dua Lipa and Rita Ora’s country!

???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

Our adventure began in the city of Kukës, Albania, near the Albania/Kosovo border, on the afternoon of the third day of my trip.

Kosovo is the youngest country in Europe and became independent in 2008. I’ve been wanting to visit it for years! It’s my 79th nation and I can’t wait to explore it. It’s also the country of Dua Lipa, one of the biggest music superstars on the planet, whose parents are from there, and singer and actress Rita Ora, who was born in Pristina. I’m going to explore it for 9 incredible days!

We reached the border, masked up, and sailed through with our passports. We were both wearing our qeleshe hats, which are considered very patriotic in Kosovo. It’s a very mountainous country with small cities, hiking, and lots of history, including medieval cities, towns, and villages. We were going to do everything we could, from hiking to seeing Ottoman bridges to eat amazing food!

The people in Kosovo speak the Albanian language, and all the signs and advertisements are in Albanian.

After some driving, we arrived in Brod, a small village of just over 1,500 people in southern Kosovo. It’s a big hiking and relaxation destination. We stopped at Arxhena Mountain Resort. It’s a big ski resort that has a funicular that takes you up the nearby mountain!

It’s a beautiful hotel with a stunning terrace with great views of the mountain. We checked in and headed to the funicular. As we rode up, I could see a little waterfall. It got colder as we headed up. It took 15 minutes to get to the top, where we had incredible views. From there, you can hike and ski.

We headed back down and saw a beautiful waterfall. I couldn’t wait to eat some Kosovar food! I imagined it would be similar to northern Albanian food: very meat- and dairy-rich.

Back at the hotel, I visited the relax center, which has a sauna, a steamroom, and two jacuzzis. They open in the winter when the hotel is at full occupancy. On the 4th floor are five suites, which have huge living rooms, a nice modern bathroom, and a spacious bedroom.

We passed through their outdoor terrace with old wood benches on our way to a room that serves as a mini ethnographic museum. There, you can see how Kosovar people used to live, including traditional clothing, how the room was set up, and more!

Then, I went to my room, 314. I had a nice bathroom, two beds, a heater, an office space, a flatscreen TV, and a balcony with a view of the slopes! Then, we went to eat!

We started with some local raki in their massive dining area. We had some mushrooms, shopska salad (which I ate a lot of in Bulgaria), a creamy pepper tava, white and yellow cheeses, black olives, and more! I loved the mushrooms!

I also couldn’t get enough of the airy, crispy pita bread with the creamy cheese-and-pepper tava. It was excellent! The yellow cheese was similar to manchego, while the white was softer but similar in taste. The shredded cheese and tomatoes in the shopska salad were fantastic, too!

Our main course was pljeskavica (a Serbian hamburger patty stuffed with cheese) and veal and lamb kofta (meatballs) with cheese melted on top. The pljeskavica was so gooey and fresh. There were also boiled potatoes with creamy cheese, which were so soft and good!

Then, we went to another room for dessert: some raki!

What an awesome way to end the third day of my trip!

Chasing Kosovo WATERFALLS!! Kosova Raki for BREAKFAST at White Drin Waterfall | Peja, Kosovo

???? HOTEL DUKAGJINI:
???? RESORT UJEVARA E DRINIT:
???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:

The sixth day of my epic road trip through Albania and Kosovo kicked off in the gorgeous city of Peja, Kosovo! Come join me as I drink some raki for breakfast and then explore the White Drin River and waterfall in Peja, Kosovo!

???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS:
???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

My day began about 30 minutes outside of Kosovo at the beautiful White Drin River. There’s a hotel right next to the river. I couldn’t wiat to have some breakfast, hike the area, and do some exploring!

We had a 30-minute hike around the river ahead of us. The rushing river goes through Albania and Kosovo. We approached the waterfall and got hit with the mist! It drenched us! The water comes from the mountains, so it’s super cold!

As we continued on, we reached a water fountain, where I took a drink. There’s nothing like drinking fresh mountain water!

Then, we continued to climb up some steps along the mountain. Re reached a bridge that crosses the White Drin right above a set of rushing falls. I had never been to a place like this before!

The path was super narrow and really intense, as it’s right above the falls!

Then, we continued along the path to the entrance of the second-largest cave in Kosovo. It’s called Sleeping Beauty Cave and is full of tunnels. Unfortunately, it was closed, but it’s open between April and October.

We began the hike back, and Erjan found a wild fire salamander. It’s a super beautiful creature! I had never seen one out in the wild!

We made it back to the hotel, Resort Ujevara e Drinit. The hotel’s restaurant, Moncafe, looks right over the river. It was so beautiful and peaceful, and the sound of the river is so soothing!

Erjan and I started with some espresso and paired it with raki, the way true Albanians and Kosovar people start their day! I loved the aroma. Most tourists probably won’t do this, but it’s the best way to immerse yourself in the local culture.

From there, we hopped in the car to head to Rugova Valley to do some ziplining! There are mountains, waterfalls, and canyons there. The area reminded me of Valbona and Montenegro!

Our first stop was a waterfall along the highway, which goes through the mountains. It was beautiful! There’s a restaurant right on the river with a sort of picnic area right on the river banks. It’s beautiful and relaxing, but it’s also cold! The Peja area is stunningly beautiful!

I crossed some of the rocks in the river and then we headed back up to the car. We reached another waterfall, and nearby we found a vendor selling honey, drinks, and raki bottles made from tree branches!

Unfortunately, the ziplining was closed, so we headed back to Peja to find more adventures! The drive to and from the city was absolutely gorgeous. The mountain scenery was unreal! You can hike and go rock climbing here!

We made it back to Hotel Dukagjini, our accommodations, and walked around the center of town. We saw the main square and pedestrian street and the I Love Peja sign.

What an eventful morning in and around Peja!

How CHEESE is Made in KOSOVO!! Cheese Factory Tour | Pristina, Kosovo

???? MAGIC ICE:
???? TRAVEL MEDIA EU:
???????? DAVID’S BEEN HERE KOSOVO & ALBANIA SHIRTS:

In my latest adventure in my Albania and Kosovo series, I got the chance to visit a dairy factory! Come along with me as I see how cheese is made at a cheese factory in Pristina, Kosovo!

???? RENTAL CAR ALBANIA:

My day began at Magic Ice, a massive cheese factory just outside the beautiful city of Pristina, Kosovo. My boy Erjan from Travel Media EU and I would get to tour their facility and see how they make cheese, curd, ice cream, sour cream, and much more!

I had never been to a cheese factory this big before! Inside, we met with Syzane and saw a sign showing all of the ice cream varieties they make. They have two imported ice creams, but the rest are all theirs.

To keep everything inside the facility sanitary, we had to wear our face masks as well as a protective gown, hairnets, and shoe coverings before we entered the production area. It’s hardcore but necessary! I was super excited to be back in a cheese factory!

Inside were huge vats and containers where the cheese was being pressed. I couldn’t wait to see the whole cheese-making process. It smelled like pure milk inside. It smelled so good!

They take pasteurized milk and make yogurt and put it in a huge vat. Then, they extract the water, which leaves just cheese. They press the cheese into blocks and leave a little briny water inside the containers to keep the cheese soft and salty.

I watched them take blocks of cheese and pack them into large, bucket-like containers. They put 800 grams of cheese into each one, and then they add water and seal it.

Elsewhere, we got to see the pasteurization of the milk before it gets turned into a milky, sauce-like yogurt. Then, we saw the cheese in water, which is wrapped in a huge cloth, which presses out the water. After that, they let it sit for 40 minutes until it’s just cheese!

Next, we tried the Magic Ice Classic Cone, an ice cream cone produced at the facility. It was vanilla ice cream on a cone, and was a little nutty and had chocolate in it! The vanilla was amazing, and the ice cream was so sweet and creamy. It was like butter and melted almost immediately. It’s 100% milk and doesn’t contain any water! I loved how pure it was!

Then, we saw the process of making the curd. They have two types. One is saltier than the other. They had the curd in two huge vats and, depending on which kind of curd it is, it gets packed it into a differently colored plastic package, which they then vacuum seal. One is blue, while the other is pink. It smelled so good! The kind with fat was so creamy. It’s also super fresh! This cheese factory in Pristina, Kosovo is amazing!

Next, we saw everything that was packed in the refrigerator and ready to go to markets. It was only 3 degrees Celsius inside and there was a never-ending amount of cheese inside!

From there, we headed to another part of the facility, where we saw their Magic Cream (sour cream) and a freezer where the ice cream was stored. It was way too cold in there at -22 degrees Celsius, or 9 degrees fahrenheit! My face was frozen afterward!

Next, we got to taste a dense white cheese. It was very different from goat cheese and had a less crumbly texture. Then, we tried a creamier, more buttery feta cheese. Magic Ice cheese factory in Pristina, Kosovo is a truly incredible place!

What an incredible cheese factory tour in Pristina, Kosovo!

Traveling to Republic of Kosovo ????????

We had quite different expectations before we finally decided to visit the Republic of Kosovo in the beginning of September 2022. ????????

The country surprised us with its clean and tidy public spaces, great views, tasty food, and smiling people. Definitely a great place to check out for a couple of days and one of the most affordable places to visit in Europe. Plus they use the euro ????

Some of the best moments in the country were:
1. Views from Hija e Maleve towards the Shar Mountain
2. The architecture of The National Library of Kosovo in Pristina
3. The charming town of Prizren
4. The Grand Hamam with an exhibition, part of the biennial Manifesta 14 (which will be in the city until the end of October)
5. Streets with older and newer buildings and where many cables meet ????
6. The view from the balcony of our apartment in Pristina
7. Tasting the traditional food from Kosovo - especially the delicious cheeses and bread
8. Where everything happens - the Mother Theresa boulevard
9. Precious time with bears saved from cages and entertainment who now live a great life in Bear Sanctuary, Pristina ????
10. Kasandra was a special bear who fell in love with Nace and lovingly growled at him right before she defecated in front of us ????

Ski Trip | Kosovo

This is a fun video made before I decided to go full professional on videography. It's a weekend ski trip in Brod, Kosovo with a group of friends. To our defense this might've been the 3rd or 4th time ever skiing for us, so our skill level is questionable :P
