Facts
Ireland is known for its wide expanses of lush, green fields. In fact, its nickname is the Emerald Isle.
But there are also large areas of rugged, rocky landscape. About 15,000 years ago,
Ireland was completely covered by thick glaciers.
The movement of these giant sheets of ice stripped the soil,
leaving huge tracts of flat, limestone pavement.

NATURE
The Irish have a great affection for nature and rural life.
The country's first coins even featured pictures of animals.
Low levels of development and pollution in Ireland have left most of the nation's open spaces relatively undisturbed.
Did you know that there are no wild snakes in Ireland?
The sea has stopped many animals common on mainland Europe from reaching the island.
There are also only two wild mouse species, one type of lizard, and just three kinds of amphibians.

The River Dodder rises in the mountains south of Dublin | The Dodder fishing permit Dublin Ireland.

It then flows in a north-easterly direction for 14 miles through the southern side of the city before entering the Irish Sea at Dublin Bay. This river has a reasonable stock of brown trout which is complemented by stocking. In addition, the Dodder has a small stock of sea trout. Fishing is best between Old Bawn in Tallaght and Ballsbridge. Sea trout fishing can be found downstream of Ballsbridge. Annual stocking of the river with brown trout from 4 oz to over 1 lb. is carried out by the local angling club.

Membership and permits:
The juvenile membership in the club is high and young anglers are very much encouraged to join. The stretches recommended for fishing are located at Herbert Park in Ballsbridge to Beaver Row in Donnybrook. In addition, the stretch from Milltown to Rathfarnham is also worth a try. The Milltown to Rathfarnham section is very accessible with a linear park all the way along this stretch. There are footbridges across the river at various points. So crossing the river is not a problem. Parking is mostly off-road.

Licences, sea-trout and regulations :
Sea trout fishing can be good on the lower reaches in late summer (please note the salmon and sea trout regulations). Anglers fishing for sea trout must have a salmon licence. In the tidal area near Ringsend some fine specimen mullet were recorded in recent years. Fishing on this river is controlled by the Dodder Anglers and riparian owners.

Location
Ballsbridge – Tallaght, South County Dublin.

Fish Species
Brown Trout and Sea trout

Season
17 March – 30 September

Methods
All legitimate methods are allowed including fly fishing, worm fishing and spinning. (subject to salmon regulations)

Angling Club
Dodder Anglers Club

Permits, Day Tickets and Membership
Join the angling club or buy a day ticket for your fishing from the following stockists

Henry’s fishing tackle
Rory’s
ABC
Southside Angling
Beaumanns
Nuts Mutts
Membership is 10 euro for an adult and 5 euro for a junior. (subject to change)

Fishing tip
Trout feed more avidly in the evening time. Spend some time looking for feeding trout before starting to fish.

Access to fisheries
Access does not imply a right of way and anglers should ensure that, they have the necessary permission to enter or cross private lands. Where possible anglers should walk along the river bank.

Country code
Anglers should ensure that gates are closed and that fences are not broken or damaged. Care should be taken with crops and livestock. Litter must not be discarded and no fires are allowed. Vehicles should be parked in designated areas and in such a manner that they do not cause obstruction.

Donnybrook to Dublin on Foot (Dublin part 5)

After making omelettes at 3:00 am and spending the night at Jacks residence in the Dublin neighborhood of Donnybrook, Will and I decided to skip internal combustion transportation and walk back to our hostel in downtown Dublin. Although the gloomy and wet weather depleted the rest Will's serotonin levels, I seemed to have enjoyed myself and found the walk to be quite pleasant. It was nice to explore some of less touristy areas of Ireland.

places to visit in Dublin 4 (D4) includes the lively, leafy suburbs Sandymount and Ballsbridge.

Affluent Dublin 4 (D4) includes the lively, leafy suburbs Sandymount and Ballsbridge, where embassies and offices sit alongside upscale boutiques and bistros. Flora Mini Marathon Donnybrook Dublin June Bank Holiday 2012

When I went outdoors it was initially to go to my favourite Donnybrook spot at the Dodder. I accidentally stumbled upon the following. See also: Well done Mná na hÉireann. This video footage of the Flora Mini-Marathon was taken right outside the Sacred Heart church in Donnybrook on June Bank Holiday 2012. The flapping noise you hear in the background was created by a lone young woman organiser who was on the opposite side of the road with a plastic flapper cheering on the last of the walkers. It wasn't too long before that, that the side of the road she was on was thronged with walkers. That side of the N11 Dublin to Wexford route was eventually cordoned off and the last of the walkers were coralled on to where you see said walkers here.

The sound of an electronic road-sweeper / traffic lights can also be heard in the background. The cleaning went into action very speedily, as there were empty spring rock water bottles and styrene cups strewn everywhere. It was nice to see that there was no delay in getting the roads clean as soon as the walkers had passed by. Thankfully too that weather conditions held out. It was not too swelteringly hot, as it had rained buckets the day before and the air was so fresh and cool.

I'd seen workers stacking barriers at O'Connell Bridge on Saturday evening as the 46A bus en-route to Donnybrook. It was in preparation for the walk. There was a great sense of forebodance everywhere. Loreto, a friend of mine, had earlier reminded me to get into town very early on Monday to cheer on the runners/walkers. So hopefully this video will be my cheering on contribution.

The participants did Ireland proud. You will see towards the end of the film that the road-sweeper van was getting prepared to clean up after the last lot of walkers had passed by. I was also reminded upon looking at the video that I was at this very spot over a year ago videoing the funeral cortege of our very own ex-Fine Gael Taoiseach, Dr. Garret Fitzgerald. Two remarkable memorable occasions. I went down to Spar shop later on and saw a woman proudly wearing her medal.

Train at Bray Train Station in IRELAND

Train at Bray Train Station in IRELAND

The Dublin Area Rapid Transit system (stylised as DART) is an electrified commuter rail railway network serving the coastline and city centre of Dublin. The service makes up the core of Dublin's suburban railway network, stretching from Greystones, County Wicklow, in the south to Howth and Malahide in north County Dublin. The DART serves 31 stations and consists of 53 route kilometres of electrified railway (46 km double track, 7 km single), and carries in the region of 20 million passengers per year.

The DART system was established by Córas Iompair Éireann in 1984 to replace an ageing fleet of diesel-powered locomotives. Since 1987 the service is operated by Iarnród Éireann, Ireland's national rail operator. Contemporary rolling stock on the DART network is powered by 1500 V DC overhead lines and uses the Irish 1,600 mm gauge.
