Taking A BUS From Banja Luka to SARAJEVO!????????

We took a bus from Banja Luka to Sarajevo and got stranded...

This was probably the most stressful travel day we've had since we started this journey. There were lessons learned & certainly memories made, but thankfully everything worked out in the end.

We began by waking up and saying good-bye to our amazing Airbnb in Banja Luka. We absolutely loved our time in Banja Luka, but it was definitely time for us to go see the beautiful capital city of Sarajevo. We made our way about a mile and a half to the Banja Luka bus station where we waited for a couple of hours. From there we hopped on our bus headed for the town of Donji Vakuf.

The ride to Donji Vakuf took around two hours. It was UNBELIEVABLY picturesque, but sitting in the back of the bus gave us some pretty serious motion sickness. After a little while we hopped off the bus in Donji Vakuf where we began the wait for our second bus, which would never come...

Our time in Donji Vakuf was pretty stressful. We had an hour and a half wait between buses so we took that time to catch up on plans & just chat. The bus station was VERY old & nobody spoke English which is TOTALLY understandable, but was also something that made things a bit more difficult. When the time came for us to catch our next bus, we were surprised to see that it was nowhere in sight.

10 minutes turned into 30 minutes. 30 minutes turned into an hour. One hour turned into an hour and a half. Bus after bus came through but none of them were ours. By this time we had no idea when our bus would arrive and had to make a decision. Do we continue to wait, or do we book one of the local buses that could take us to Sarajevo? After over an hour and a half, we bought new tickets and hopped on the local bus.

The driver of the local bus made our journey extremely comfortable. He was so friendly and gave us all kinds of recommendations. We sat in the front with him and talked about where we were from, where he lived, and what brought us to Bosnia. It was really a great experience. After a few more stops and about two hours we arrived in Bosnia's capital of Sarajevo!

We got off the bus and after being really priced out of a taxi, we made the decision to walk the rest of the way from the bus station to our Airbnb. This day was extremely stressful, but one that we definitely learned a lot from.

Thanks so much for tuning in to this video!! Hopefully it gave you some insight on what it's like to take a bus from Banja Luka to Sarajevo. Subscribe if you're new and see you in a few days!!!

WIKIPEDIA:

Travnik Castle, locally known as Stari Grad Castle (old town castle), is a medieval town-fortress complex in the town of Travnik, Central Bosnia Canton, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dating back to pre-Ottoman Bosnia[3] when the former Christian Kingdom ruled the region, there is no historical data as to the construction date of the Medieval fortress. However, the construction type and other characteristics indicate that it was built sometime in the second half of the 14th century or in the first half of the 15th century.[4] As a result, It was probably built during the time of the Bosnian Kings Tvrtko II or Ostoja, and then rebuilt and expanded during the time of Stephen Thomas. The Travnik fortress was erected before the arrival of the Ottoman Turks for the purpose of defence as the Ottomans penetrated deeper into Bosnia. Travnik itself was one of a number of fortified towns in the region built for this purpose but was built too late to stem the Ottoman advance.

The Pliva Waterfall (Serbian Cyrillic: Пливски водопад) is located by the town of Jajce, in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the river Pliva meets the river Vrbas. The waterfall is a large tufa, also known as travertine barrier, making over 22 meters cascade on the Pliva river, in a narrow karstic zone, which follows the Pliva course, retracted into a flysh and limestone contact zone. It was 30 meters high, but after an earthquake during the Bosnian war and attacks on the power plant further up the river, the area was flooded and now the waterfall is 22 meters high.
The old Jajce walled city core, including the waterfall, and other individual sites outside the walled city perimeter, such as the Jajce Mithraeum, is designated as The natural and architectural ensemble of Jajce and proposed for inscription into the UNESCO's World Heritage Site list. The bid for inscription is currently placed on the UNESCO Tentative list.

Jajce (Serbian Cyrillic: Јајце) Jajce is a small city in Bosnia & Herzegovina, central not only geographically but also culturally. Throughout Bosnia’s long history, Jajce has been the home of medieval kings, Ottoman governors, and a range of different ethnic groups, as well as being one of President Tito’s earliest Communist strongholds. Jajce has been so far undiscovered by tourists, although UNESCO has recently been investing in renovating the city’s historical areas,Town and municipality located in the Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. According to the 2013 census, the town has a population of 7,172 inhabitants, with 27,258 inhabitants in the municipality, It is situated in the region of Bosanska Krajina, on the crossroads between Banja Luka, Mrkonjić Grad and Donji Vakuf, on the confluence of the rivers Pliva and Vrbas.

STARI GRAD PRUSAC : TVRĐAVA I SAHAT KULA - Donji Vakuf - Bugojno

STARI GRAD PRUSAC : TVRĐAVA I SAHAT KULA - Donji Vakuf - Bugojno

Tvrđava-citadela

Njeni zidovi su sačuvani u visini do 10 metara i dužine do 19 metara.

Danas ga nema.
Izvor: wikipedia

Visiting TRAVNIK, BOSNIA (10/2019)

Travnik is a city and the administrative center of Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, an entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, 90 kilometres (56 miles) west of Sarajevo. As of 2013, city had a population of 16,534 inhabitants, while the municipality had 53,482 inhabitants.

Historically, it was the capital city of the governors of Bosnia from 1699 to 1850, and has a cultural heritage dating from that period.

In the Middle Ages the Travnik area was known as the župa Lašva province of the medieval Bosnian Kingdom. The area is first mentioned by Bela IV of Hungary in 1244. Travnik itself was one of a number of fortified towns in the region, with its fortress Kaštel becoming today's old town sector. The city itself is first mentioned by the Ottomans during their conquest of nearby Jajce.

After the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia in the 15th century, much of the local population converted to Islam. The city quickly grew into one of the more important settlements in the region, as authorities constructed mosques, marketplaces, and various infrastructure. During 1699 when Sarajevo was set afire by soldiers of Field-Marshal Prince Eugene of Savoy, Travnik became the capital of the Ottoman province of Bosnia and residence of the Bosnian viziers. The city became an important center of government in the whole Western frontier of the empire, and consulates were established by the governments of France and Austria-Hungary.

The period of Austrian occupation brought westernization and industry to Travnik, but also a reduction of importance. While cities such as Banja Luka, Sarajevo, Tuzla, and Zenica grew rapidly, Travnik changed so little that during 1991 it had a mere 30,000 or so people, with 70,000 in the entire municipality.

A large fire started by a spark from a locomotive in September 1903 destroyed most of the towns buildings and homes, leaving only some hamlets and the fortress untouched.[2] The cleanup and rebuilding took several years.

From 1929 to 1941, Travnik was part of the Drina Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.

During the Bosnian War, the town mostly escaped damage from conflict with Serbian forces, hosting refugees from nearby Jajce, but the area experienced fighting between local Bosniak and Croat factions before the Washington Agreement was signed in 1994. After the war, Travnik was made the capital of the Central Bosnia Canton.

The Jajce Watermills | Visiting the unique spot in beautiful Bosnia!

*Please note this video was filmed in 2019, before the Corona Virus epidemic.*
While in the beautiful town of Jajce, Bosnia and Herzegovina, we took a short walk to one of the interesting, and lesser visited spots that we had been recommended. Jajce itself is a lovely town, but we wanted to get a little outside of the town, and visit somewhere a little more out of the way. Along the walk, we took in some stunning scenery, as well as taking the opportunity to stop off and a few locations. However, once we arrived, the Watermills really became a highlight of our short visit. These old mills, that were built to help mill wheat, are a stunning and unique example of using nature in a sustainable way. It proved to be well worth the walk from Jajce!

Amazing Bosnian food in such a tiny ethnic restaurant! (Astoria, New York)

In this episode of NYC food around the world. I visited a tiny ethnic restaurant called Ćevabdžinica Sarajevo in Astoria, Queens. As the name suggests, this restaurant serves Bosnian (Balkan) food from Sarajevo, the capital and heartland of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

This is somewhat of an unexpected visit because I was initially planning to shoot something else, but because of the time constraint I couldn't finish that shoot, so I decided to switch content at the last minute. I pulled this place out of my Yelp collection and decided to give it a try.

The restaurant is located near Steinway street in Astoria Queens. It is a very tiny and unassuming restaurant, not a place to bring your date for sure.

The menu was concise and offered a few selections of different grill meat, some items are not available when we requested. The server spoke borderline 101 English, not very helpful in communicating anything in a little more depth about the dishes that is). The table was wobbly. The room was hazing because the smoke from the kitchen was escaping out into the dining area. All and all... not too sure about this place. And as soon as I started shooting another group came in and sat by the table next to me and started talking loudly. Interrupted by the noise, I was a bit grumpy and was almost giving up shooting altogether.

Luckily, the table soon became quiet and our food came. It was good and comforting and my temper was easier. Then came the grilled meat platters. And as soon as I took the first bite of the cevapi, all my grumpiness was gone in an instant. It was that good, and I could totally tolerate the smoke in the room then. This is such a hidden gem in the neighborhood, and despite its somewhat lacking setup, it's totally worth the trip.
