Sudan Travel adventure Day 4: Visit ancient quarry & school in Tombos, Kerma, Old Dongola.

#sudan #travel #tourism #travelwithrichardandjudy #tourist #tombos #nile #nileriver #nubian #guesthouse #kerma #qubba #dongola #cartouche ##travelvlog

After another fabulous breakfast prepared by our chef and driver Ala-Adin, we strike out in the morning to visit the town of Tombos. Along the way we see a tricked out pickup truck and some beautiful door entrances to the classic Nubian homes. We make it to the quarry where we come upon the unfinished 1 ton statue of Egyptian Pharaoh Taharqa going back to 700 BC. Tombos, Sudan was the southernmost point that the Egyptians conquered. We also see ancient Egyptian inscriptions including the cartouche of the pharaoh. We then walk by a school where we get to see a lot of local children and then head back to the guest house to load up the car and head south to Old Dongola. Along the way we stop at the ruins of the ancient Nubian capital of Kerma dating back to 2500 BC. We stop at the museum and then head to the ferry which will take us across the Nile on our way to Old Dongola. On the ferry I meet a friendly deaf and mute man who wanted to buy my new GoPro 11 camera for like $10! Old Dongola was originally founded as a Nubian fort in the fifth century and eventually became the capital of Makuria, which was a Christian Nubian kingdom located in northern Sudan and southern Egypt. Makuria flourished until the 14th century when it was eventually defeated by the Arabs. We viewed the Throne Hall which was a defensive building built by the Makurian Kings in the 9th century. We were unable to enter the building but we did see a snake enter which I caught on camera. We then proceed past the Islamic cemetery containing multiple tombs called qubbas. We then arrive at the Old Dongola guest house at sunset where we meet some local people and have another gourmet dinner.

Most beautiful AFRICAN DESERT (Nubia) ????????SUDAN

Setting off from capital Khartoum we travel 600km through Sudan across Nubian desert to arrive to heart of Sudanese Nubia. Our crazy trip to Dongola begins with tasting amazing local Nile fish, then discovering nearby sudanese village, trying local food and experiencing sudanese wedding.

Sudan travel adventure Day 1: Going south on the Nile River to Khartoum, Wadi Halfa to Abri.

#sudan #travelvlog #travel #tourism #travelwithrichardandjudy #crocodile #abri #ferry #border #nile #nileriver #nubian #sudanconflict #sudanwar #darfur

After a crazy and chaotic border crossing from Abu Simbel Egypt we make our way south through the desert along the Nile River about 180 km to the town of Abri where we check in for the night at the Magzoub Nubian guest house. We take the opportunity to stroll through the town and meet some of the friendly locals then we head back to the guest house where the proprietor takes us for a joy ride in his 1949 Morris car from England. We then enjoy a beautiful sunset on the Nile River where he shows us a picture of his pet crocodile. Then we sit down to a lovely meal made by our driver/chef Ala-Adin.

Foreigner Travels SUDAN (What It's Like?) ????????

Sudan Travel Vlog! I travelled through Sudan in early 2020. The journey included almost being homeless for a night, being rescued by a local, failed hitch hiking, massive fuel shortages, bus strikes, remote pyramids in the desert, people riding on rooftops through the highway and exploring off the beaten path. The majority of Sudan was extremely safe during my time of travel. Meaning walking alone at night with my cellphone out was fine, not something you can do in many countries. I hope you guys gained some knowledge of an unknown country today, enjoy!

Sudan National Museum in Khartoum, Sudan

Sudan National Museum in Khartoum, Sudan
The National Museum of Sudan is a double storied building constructed in 1955 and established as a museum in 1971. The building and its surrounding gardens house the largest and most comprehensive Nubian archaeological collection in the world including objects from the Paleolithic through to the Islamic period originating from every site of importance in the Sudan.

In particular it houses collections of these periods of the History of Sudan: Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic, Kerma Culture, Kingdom of Egypt and medieval Makuria.

The museum is located on the El Neel (Nile) Avenue in Khartoum in Al-Mugran area near the spot where the White and the Blue Niles meet.

The National Museum holds many treasures of Sudan’s ancient and medieval past. They’re well presented and labelled, and give a good narrative of Sudanese history. Spread out over two floors, the ground floor starts with Sudan’s prehistory and covers the rise of Kerma and Kush in great detail. Kerma is particularly well represented through its famous pottery. The Kushite displays show the wide variety of cultural exchange in play throughout the kingdom. Egyptian culture is the strongest influence, shown particularly in the royal statues found at Jebel Barkal dating from around 690BC and the sarcophagus of Anlamani from his tomb at Nuri about 100 years earlier. A clear Hellenistic influence can be seen in the statue of the so-called ‘Venus of Meroë’ and a blue-glass chalice from Sedeinga, with depictions of gods and bearing a Greek inscription ‘You shall live’. A side room on the ground floor has space for temporary displays, often illustrating current archaeological digs.

The upstairs gallery holds the museum’s most unexpected displays – frescoes from Christian Nubia. Despite lasting for 700 years, Sudan’s early Christian kingdoms are little known to the outside world and repeated Sudanese governments have shown little interest in promoting this aspect of their history. I was as ignorant as most on my first visit, and was astounded to find beautiful frescoes depicting Christ and the Virgin Mary, along with a host of archangels, saints and apostles. The style of the frescoes is distinctly Byzantine, reflecting Nubia’s links with the Roman Empire in the east. Most were painted between the 8th and 14th centuries, and were taken from the cathedral at Faras, now submerged under Lake Nasser. The upstairs galleries can be a little dark, so you may want to take a torch with you in order to see the details in the frescoes.

It has land borders with Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, South Sudan, the Central African Republic, Chad, and Libya. it is the third-largest country on the continent and the fifteenth-largest in the world.

The Blue Nile and White Nile rivers meet in Khartoum to form the Nile, which flows northwards through Egypt to the Mediterranean Sea. The Blue Nile's course through Sudan is nearly 800 km long and is joined by the Dinder and Rahad Rivers between Sennar and Khartoum. The White Nile within Sudan has no significant tributaries.

There are several dams on the Blue and White Niles. Among them are the Sennar and Roseires Dams on the Blue Nile, and the Jebel Aulia Dam on the White Nile. There is also Lake Nubia on the Sudanese-Egyptian border.
