We continued our travels further into China's rugged southwest and went into the Provence of Guizhou. Zhaoxing is another Dong minority village and it is absolutely fabulous! Cobble stone streets, farmers working the fields and a pretty wild bar scene, read: drunk Chinese puking on the streets at midnight. We tried oil tea, wonderful, and hiked up to a smaller village Jitiang with some really cool Drum towers and not a tourist in sight.

A UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site, the island is about 2 km2 in area, and is reached by an 8-minute ferry ride from downtown Xiamen. Although only about 20,000 people live on the island, Gulangyu is a major domestic tourist destination, attracting more than 10 million visitors per year, and making it one of China's most visited tourist attractions. The island is on China's list of National Scenic Spots and is classified as a 5A tourist attraction by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA). Gulangyu covers an area of 1.91 square kilometres (0.74 sq mi), with a household population of 15,373. Administratively, the island constitutes the Gulangyu Subdistrict, part of Xiamen's Siming District.

Zhaoxing Dong Village, located in Liping County, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province, is the largest Dong village in the Dong area of Qiandongnan. It is also the folk culture center of the Dong nationality. By 2012, with more than 1,100 households and more than 6,000 residents, it is one of the largest Dong villages in China and is known as the first village in Dong Township. Zhaoxing Dong Village is surrounded by mountains. The houses in the village are dry-column-style stilted buildings, row upon row, patchwork, all built with fir, hard top covered with small green tiles, simple and practical. Zhaoxing Dong Village is divided into internal surnames and external surnames, and the external surnames are all Dong people with the Lu surname. It is divided into five groups: Ren Tuan, Yi Tuan, Li Tuan, Zhi Tuan, and Xin Tuan.
Zhaoxing Dong Village is the core scenic spot of Liping Dong Township Scenic Spot.
