DIESSEN (Dießen) Am Ammersee in Bavaria, Germany ???????? - 4K (UHD)

Ammersee is the 6th Largest Lake in Germany and located South-West of Munich at a distance of 48 km. From Munich Pasing, we took the S8 and reach the town of Herrsching on the Eastern side of Ammersee.
..
..
..
As we have previously explored Herrsching, we decided to visit another town, DIssen am Ammersee. Dissen is located on the South Western side of Ammersee and can be reached from Herrsching via Cruise.
..
There are 2 types of Cruise which you can take from Herrsching, The North Bound towards Utting or Southern Bound towards Dissen. The Northern Cruise is long as compare to Southern Cruise.
..
..
..
We opted for the Southern Cruise for Dissen and bought the Round Ticket which allows you to comeback at your own convenience. Ticket for Southern Cruise for a Round Trip costs 14,60 Euro pp and in just half hour, you will be in Diessen am Ammersee. You can also visit Dissen am Ammersee on Regional Trains from Geltendorf but for that you have to take 2 trains from Munich.
..
We will recommend to use the S-Bahn from Munich to reach Herrsching and from there take the Cruise to Diessen am Ammersee. Diessen (Dießen) am Ammersee is a town located in the district of Landsberg and on the South Western Shore of Ammersee.
..
..
..
The Town hall (Rathaus) is located on the Mühlstraße which starts from the shore of Ammersee and passes through the town center. Near Diessen, Ammer and Rott Rivers enters into Ammersee. Ammer River is a bigger river in terms of length and water volume than Rott.
..
Almost all buildings in the town center and also located on both sides of the Mühlstraße have traditional Bavarian paintings, stucco work and mural. Be it restaurants, shops or houses, every building has it’s own charm here at Diessen am Ammersee.
..
..
..
Marienmünster is one of the cultural highlights of the region and it’s the main church in Diessen am Ammersee. Inside the baroque building, a breathtaking world of gilded carvings, magnificent paintings and ornate decorations awaits you. The ceiling and wall paintings as well as the impressive dome painting by Johann Baptist Zimmermann are also true masterpieces.
..
For art and history lovers, the Marienmünster in Dießen am Ammersee is an absolute must. A small stream named Diessener Mühlbach, passes through the old town which further increases the charm of this town. Various restaurants, cafes and other attractions are located in the town center and provides plenty of options for both locals and tourists.
..
..
..
There are plenty of places to relax and sit in the town center which provides an excellent opportunity to enjoy the hustle and bustle. There is a sculpture named Der Diez by Matthias Rodach at Untermüllerplatz which is of a man with Golden Fish in the center of the town.Several restaurants in Diessen have decorated their exteriors and interiors very well and creates a beautiful mix for style and ambiance.
..
..
..
Regular connections via Train (Geltendorf) and Cruise (Herrsching), it’s very easy to visit Diessen. We took the last connection of the Cruise and it was around 5:00 PM from Diessen to Herrsching. The return journey from Diessen to Herssching is longer as cruise also has to stop at Riederau.
..
..
..
Cruise scene in Germany, especially in Bavarian Lakes, is of very high standard and highly recommended to try at various lakes such as Starnbergersee, Bodensee, Ammersee, Chiemsee, Tegernsee and Schliersee.

GERMANY: Tecklenburg - medieval town

Tecklenburg is a town in Germany set against a decor of the Middle Ages, located at the foothills of the Teutoburg Forest (Teutoburger Wald).

Tecklenburg retained some of its medieval townscape to date.

Main sites include the ruined castle (now serving as open air theatre during the Summer) and the Stadtkirche (the main, old church) including tombs of the dukes of Tecklenburg and others prominent in the history of the county and city.

The castle was built around 1250. Anna von Tecklenburg-Schwerin made a lot of construction changes. Around 1700 the castle was old and the bricks were used for other buildings in Tecklenburg. Only a ruin was the result.

Today, Tecklenburg is a lovely tourist place, a place to relax and to walk around. The city's center streets represent old European charm. As you walk these streets, you sense becoming part of history - 100's years of lives lived out in these same streets.

Walking in OSNABRÜCK / Germany ????????- 4K 60fps (UHD)

Osnabrück / Germany is a city in the state Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). The city is home to around 165,000 people with 28.000 Students. Historically Osnabrück was the place where the 30 Years War (1618–48) ended by hosting the diplomatic negotiations leading to the Peace of Westphalia.

This pleasant city has several sights like the St. Peter's Cathedral - the Münster, where we start our tour. After one round at the Domplatz we see the inner city with the Historic City Hall (Historisches Rathaus Osnabrück – Rathaus des westfälischen Friedens). Now it's time to check the nicely walkable old town.

We walk to the western side of the city center via the Heger Tor, pass the Felix Nussbaum House / Museum of Cultural History. Later we return to the Domplatz and see more of the central city with several picturesque half-timbered houses.

Getting out of the city we pass the Ledenhof. As a final stop we see the Palace of Osnabrueck (Schloss Osnabrück). Our tour ends at the palace gardens on this late summer day.

For another walk in Osnabrück, please check out this walk:

Osnabrück, Germany | My Trip to Lovely Osnabruck

Traveling between Amsterdam and Hamburg I decided to make a quick stop in the lovely small town of Osnabrück in Germany.

I had a 2 hour time between my train connection so I spent it exploring the old town and surrounding area.

Unfortunately it was raining the entire time so I didn't get to check out everything I wanted to but I definitely hope to visit Osnabrück again in the future and spend some more time exploring!

Secrets of Germany - Obernburg ruins in Gudensberg

Gudensberg is a small town in northern Hesse, Germany. Since the municipal reform in 1974, the nearby villages of Deute, Dissen, Dorla, Gleichen, Maden and Obervorschütz have become parts of the municipality. Above the town, on the Schlossberg, lie the ruins of the old castle, the Obernburg. On a saddle below the Obernburg, a tower that was part of the town's old defences still stands. From the 306 m (1,004 ft) high hill there is an outstanding view across the heath, to the Mader Stein, to the Nenkel and to the Odenberg (and other mountains).

Hike through Teutoburger Wald by Dissen

It was amazing hike tour, event a bit of small asphalt roads and forest ways. Unfortunately, one route was a private way that we had to somehow avoid. And at some point the hike tour we had chosen ended, and we made our way a little bit through the German jungle.

Sorbs: The ethnic minority inside Germany

Sorbs: The ethnic minority inside Germany.
Nearly every day between April and October, Bunar hops on a 9m-long boat and peacefully navigates through a labyrinth of small waterways to deliver letters to around 65 homes that are otherwise very difficult to reach.
The post has been delivered by a gondola-like boat for the past 124 years in the Spreewald
Bunar is the local postwoman in Lehde, a quiet 150-person village of marshy islands connected by footbridges, nestled in the lush Unesco biosphere reserve of the Spreewald.
Located about 100km south-east of Berlin, this vast 47,500-hectare mosaic of meadows, forests and canals has few roads, boasts many hiking trails and is popular among tourists who want to escape the bustle of the German capital.
The Spreewald's sleepy waterways have always been its lifeline, with wooden boats called Kahns plying the region's tangle of streams to transport cattle, crops and people for more than 1,000 years.
Today, most farms own a small boat and an equally small dock, and for the past 124 years these canals have also been used to deliver mail.
The Spreewald is a Unesco biosphere spanning 47,500-hectares of meadows, forests and canals with few roads.
It's nice when old traditions like these are carried on and revived,, said Bunar, before heading out to deliver the day's post, which she has done for the past 10 years.
But although Bunar, who has lived near the Spreewald for most of her life, often chats in German with locals and tourists alike, she regrets that she doesn't speak the region's second language, which forms an important part of its unique identity.
That's because, in addition to sheltering 6,000 species of animals and plants, the Spreewald is also home to the Sorbs: the world's smallest Slavic ethnic group and one of Germany's four nationally recognised minorities, alongside Danes, Frisians and the German Sinti and Roma.
Around 1,500 years ago, some of these tribes migrated to Lusatia, a historical region sometimes called Sorbia that straddled eastern Germany, western Poland and the northern tip of the Czech Republic.
Over time, European empires and nations have come and gone, but the Sorbs have remained – a Slavic-speaking ethnic minority existing inside modern-day Germany.
The Sorbs are a Slavic ethnic minority that have lived in modern-day Germany for roughly 1,500 years.
In addition to German, Sorbs speak their own West Slavic languages: about 20,000 people in Saxony speak Upper Sorbian (which has similarities to Czech); while Brandenburg has around 5,000 speakers of Lower Sorbian (which has more in common with Polish).
This means that as visitors slowly paddle through the Spreewald's tranquil canals in their hired punts or kayaks, they're likely to notice that public signs are bilingual.
And if you ask locals, many will write their names and titles in both German and Sorbian.
For many people, the language is incredibly important, it's the main way of identifying with the Sorbs in general,, said Fabian Kaulfürst, a language expert at the Sorbian Institute, a research facility that specialises in Sorbian history and culture, located in the town of Bautzen, or Budyšin in Upper Sorbian – which is commonly known as the Sorbs' spiritual and political heart today.
The town of Bautzen is one of the major hubs of Sorbian culture.
I met Kaulfürst in his garden in the small Saxon village of Panschwitz-Kuckau, or Pančicy-Kukow, one of a cluster of five villages near Bautzen that is commonly described as the Sorbs' stronghold, located about 100km south of Lehde.
Here, as Kaulfürst explained, Sorbian is not only spoken by older generations, but is also an everyday language used in supermarkets and among the region's 7,000 inhabitants.
We're still lucky here that there are people who feel this is a normal language of communication and don't have to think about it too much, but simply speak it off the cuff, he said.
One of the reasons Sorbs have been able to preserve their culture and language is that this sparsely populated, strongly Catholic community is surrounded by fields and hills and is difficult to reach by public transport.
This uniqueness is also felt in the village of Crostwitz, known locally as Chrósćicy.
In Crostwitz (or Chrósćicy), roughly 90% of residents are Sorbian.
And according to Katharina Jurk, the head of the Sorbian School Association, all 60 students in the local primary school in Crostwitz learn Sorbian as their mother tongue and German as a second language.
But, Jurk stressed, young families are placing increasing importance on passing on not only the language, but other Sorbian traditions to younger generations.
That's because, throughout German history the Sorbs have managed to preserve a rich cultural heritage all their own. They are well known across the nation for their masterfully crafted Easter eggs, which families patiently decorate and colour each year in March and April.
