The Ilocos Region is the first region located in northwestern Luzon. It is comprised of two major provinces: Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. There’s no right answer on which one to visit first, the goal is to visit both! You’ll enjoy Laoag in the north, famously dubbed as the Sunshine City, or to the south in Vigan where you will be taken back to the Spanish colonization era in the Philippines. Whether you want to go on a history or nature trip, Ilocos will leave you craving for more every time you visit.

See and Do
In Ilocos Norte, we have Laoag, the capital of Ilocos Norte. One of the most notable destinations here is the two-story mansion that was the former holiday home of late President Marcos and his family. It is now a museum, where visitors are free to explore and check out almost every nook and cranny of the house. When you’re done, you can head for Paoay and find tranquility by the lake, go to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Paoay Church, or ride a 4x4 and slide down the sand dunes. If you have more time, you can take a visit to the Batac museum and view the memorabilia of the late President Marcos.

In Ilocos Sur, you’ll be delighted to step into the picturesque Vigan, a UNESCO World Heritage site. It feels like time traveling to the past, as the Spanish-era houses have been well-preserved over the years. While walking in the streets, don’t forget to grab delicacies that are unique to the town such as Vigan longganisa and Ilocos empanada.

Where to Stay
Ilocos is a popular tourist spot and therefore has a lot of establishments for visitors. Whether you pick north or south, you’ll be able to see hotel options that will suit your budget and taste.

Ilocos Norte (Ilocano: Amianan nga Ilocos; Probinsia ti Ilocos Norte) is a province of the Philippines located in the Ilocos Region. Its capital is Laoag City, located in the northwest corner of Luzón Island, bordering Cagayan and Apayao to the east, and Abra to the southeast, and Ilocos Sur to the southwest. Ilocos Norte faces the West Philippine Sea to the west and the Luzon Strait to the north. Ilocos Norte is noted for being the birthplace of the former President Ferdinand E. Marcos.

Ilocos Norte Loop: Laoag-Sarrat-Solsona-Dingras-San Nicolas

Ilocos Norte Loop covers the following towns & city:

• Laoag City:
One of the richest cities in the country in terms of per capita income and the Human Development Index. Strategically located at the northern tip of the Northwestern Luzon Growth Quadrangle.

Tourism has become a major economic driver of Laoag City, paving the way for new commercial investments and infrastructure development. A recent surge in Chinese and Taiwanese tourists have been flocking to splurge in the city's profitable casino located inside the only 5-star hotel in northern Philippines: Fort Ilocandia Hotel and Resort.

Other places of interest include a tour of heritage sites featuring Spanish colonial buildings, baroque churches, La Paz Sand Dunes, white-sand beach resorts of Pagudpud, and Marcos-era mansions.

• Sarrat:
The town is known as the birthplace of Ferdinand Marcos, the 10th President of the Philippines and for Sarrat Church, the largest church in the province and with the longest nave in the country and an Important Cultural Property of the Philippines.

The Santa Monica Parish Church, commonly known as the Sarrat Church, is the largest church in Ilocos Norte and the most visited place by tourists in Sarrat. The church has one of the longest nave in the country and was declared an Important Cultural Property of the Philippines in September 2009.

• Piddig:
The town is known for its role in the Basi Revolt, led by Pedro Mateo, a native of Piddig. Today, Piddig is known for its basi and for their sariwagwag, a dish made out of gabi leaves with fresh shrimps that are freshly gathered from their rich river.

Piddig's terrain is hilly with rice plains interspersed in between. It sits at a higher elevation than most of the towns in Ilocos Norte. It is a great place for a day hike, if one does not mind traversing through rivers, forests, and fields. The municipio (town hall) is located on top of a hill offering panoramic views of fields and mountains.

• Solsona is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines.

• Dingras:
The following is the List of Cultural Properties of Dingras:
o Versoza House Ruins
o Silvino Madamba House
o Taylan House
o Albano House
o St. Joseph Educational Center of Dingras (Built in the 1940s-1950s; formerly the parish church of Dingras)

o Tabacalera de Dingras

• San Nicolas:
Pottery making is the main trademark of San Nicolas. It was introduced by the Spaniards mainly in Brgy. 8, and they called it Alfareria, meaning Art of Pottery. Other traditional crafts include the making of Tagapulot, Lapida, Chicharon and Longganisa. The town also has a large rice field.

PAGUDPUD TOUR | Ilocos Norte Philippines SAUD BEACH - One of the Most Beautiful Beaches in the World

Let’s explore Saud Beach of Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. Saud Beach ranks as one of the “25 Most Beautiful Beaches in the World” by a New York-based travel magazine. And this not surprising since Saud Beach has an absolutely gorgeous scenery, beautiful white sand and clear blue waters.
Saud beach is located at Barangay Saud in Pagudpud, which is situated at the northern tip of Luzon and a very popular weekend destination to Ilocanos and people of Northern Luzon. The town of Pagudpud is also often referred to as the “Boracay of the North” for its impressive white sand beaches. What makes it even better is its quiet surroundings. Might not be the right place for you if you’re looking for luxurious bars and fancy restaurants, but its absolutely the perfect place if you’re in need of a peaceful and relaxing travel destination.

DINGRAS JOSEFA LLANES ESCODA MUSEUM FERDINAND MARCOS DINGRAS ILOCOS NORTE TOURIST DESTINATION

osefa Llanes Escoda Museum
Josefa Llanes Escoda, also known as the Florence Nightingale of the Philippines, is a war heroine, great civic leader and social worker. In front of Dingras Town Hall beside Balay Dingras is the more significant tribute to Doña Josefa Llanes Escoda. Built in a lot donated by Municipality of Dingras, the Museum was inaugurated during the centennial birthday celebration of Doña Josefa Llanes Escoda on September 20, 1998.
What is Josefa Llanes Escoda known for?
Escoda, who was a suffragist, amplified the political voices of all Filipinas. In 1923, she served as the executive secretary of the National Federation of Women's Clubs (NFWC). In this position, Escoda fought for women's involvement in the Philippine government soon after suffrage. Her forward-thinking, feminist ideals understood the power women possessed with their new civic identity.
Josefa Madamba Llanes Escoda (September 20, 1898 – January 6, 1945) was a Filipino civic leader, social worker, World War II heroine, and suffragette. Resting place Unmarked grave in either La Loma Cemetery or Manila Chinese Cemetery, Manila, Philippines
Escoda's educational background in teaching from the University of the Philippines fueled her commitment to child and maternal health. After training with the Boy Scouts in the US, Escoda returned home to develop Girl Scout leaders. She founded the Girls Scouts of the Philippines and was the first group’s executive director. Additionally, she studied social work in New York and returned home to serve her county again. Eventually, Escoda became the president of the NFWC from 1941-1944.

Moved by her country's conditions during World War II and called to action by the Bataan Death March, Escoda served the Prisoners of War and civilian internees. She covertly provided personal and medical supplies to hostages in various camps, even after her husband's capture. After years of dangerous work, the Japanese military ultimately arrested Escoda. Imprisoned in Fort Santiago, Escoda died by execution.

Escoda's activism never relented. The Philippines honors Escoda with her image on the 1000 Philippine peso. She is one of two women featured on the currency. More valuable than money, Escoda’s legacy is emblazoned on the advancement of Filipinas, the field of social work, and the Philippines.

MADONGAN DAM San Marcelino, Dingras, Ilocos Norte

Picnic-goers enjoy the waters of Madongan Dam to cool-off the summer heat. This once neglected facility located in Brgy. San Marcelino, Dingras, Ilocos Norte has become a major tourist destination during summertime
The Madongan Dam in Ilocos Norte started out as a regular Dam that supplied water to nearby towns, but as a water levels decreased, slowly became a tourist spot for visitors to swim and frolic in. It's great to be part of your itinerary traveling to Ilocos Norte.
What was initially a curiosity has now become a seemingly uncontrollable hype.

Madongan Dam in San Marcelino, Dingras, Ilocos Norte is a new favorite for those looking for quick, cheap and relaxing getaways.
The province of Ilocos Norte is already recognized for a multitude of tourist and travel spots, including Bangui Windmills, La Paz Sand Dunes, Kapupurawan Rock Formations, and Pagudpud Blue Lagoon, to name a few. With the growing popularity of this man-made marvel, Ilocandia has expanded its tourism arsenal with the Madongan Dam.

Madongan Dam is located in the municipality of Dingras, Ilocos Norte, near Barangay San Marcelino. There is still no public transportation available to get to the location, thus the only way to see this beauty is in a private automobile.

The dam's entrance fee is simply Php 10, and a cottage may be rented for about Php 500. The Isnegs own the cottages because they saw an opportunity in this location's potential. Because there are no stores in the region, visitors are recommended to bring their own food. However, some merchants have already set up shop and are selling munchies.

Tourists are welcome to swim in the frigid waters of the Madongan River. A short hike would provide a perspective of the province's neighboring mountain ranges.
