Unsere Westerwald-Tour führt uns weiter nach Hessen in die wunderschöne Oranienstadt Dillenburg. Auf dem 270 Meter hohen Schlossberg besichtigen wir den Wilhelmsturm, das Wahrzeichen von Dillenburg und ein Denkmal für den Grafen Wilhelm I. Prinz von Oranien. Von hier hat man eine tolle Aussicht auf die Stadt und ins Tal.

City in Germany
Siegen is a city in Germany, in the south Westphalian part of North Rhine-Westphalia. It is located in the district of Siegen-Wittgenstein in the Arnsberg region. The university town is the district seat and is ranked as a higher center in the South Westphalian urban agglomeration.
The city of Siegen lies in the basin of the upper reaches of the river Sieg. From there, lateral valleys branch off in many directions. The heights of the surrounding mountains, wherever they are not actually settled, are covered in coppice. To the north lies the Sauerland, to the northwest the Rothaargebirge and to the southwest the Westerwald.

Herborn is situated north of Frankfurt. There are beautiful half-timbered houses in the old center of the town. We stayed in Herborn for a couple of days and visited from there several towns in the neighbourhood. (Original sound, no added music).

The Brothers Grimm studied here from 1802-06, and were so enchanted by the town’s medieval flair, cobbled alleys, stunning architecture and lush countryside, that they weaved elements of this town in their famous fairy tales. Painter Otto Ubbelohde also drew inspiration from this town while working on his illustrations for the Grimm fairy tales. Marburg is an important stop in Germany’s Fairy Tale Route, and offers several faity-tale-themed tours to visitors.

We had never heard of Herborn (near the well known - orange - town of Dillenburg). The town centre was however a big surprise: many beautiful historic buildings and all very close to each other. Perfect for a day out.

Durch seine Eheschließung mit Johanna van Polanen aus Breda im Jahr 1403 legt der Deutsche Engelbrecht I. von Nassau-Dillenburg den Grundstein für das Haus Oranien-Nassau in den Niederlanden. Mit ihrem großen Hofstaat und ihrem Interesse für Kultur, Kunst, Design und Mode sorgen die Nassaus im 15. und 16. Jahrhundert für eine blühende Wirtschaft. Insbesondere Graf Heinrich III. von Nassau hat viel für Breda bedeutet. Die goldenen Zeiten dauern bis zum Aufstand an. Als der Sohn Heinrichs III., Renatus (René) von Châlon, das Fürstentum Oranien in Frankreich erbt, wird dieser der erste Fürst von Oranien-Nassau. Als Prinz von Oranien steht er im Prinzip mit den anderen Königen in Europa auf einer Stufe. Sein Cousin und Erbe wurde der berühmteste Spross der Bredaer Oranien-Nassaus: Wilhelm von Oranien. Durch seine Differenzen mit König Phillip II. nach dem Bildersturm musste Wilhelm Breda verlassen. Das Band der Stadt Breda mit dem Königshaus ist jedoch stets erhalten geblieben.
