കണ്ണൂർ ജില്ലയിലെ 2 ഹെക്ടർ വിസ്തീർണ്ണം വരുന്ന ഒരു ദ്വീപാണ് ധർമ്മടം തുരുത്ത് (പച്ചത്തുരുത്ത്). ധർമ്മടം കടപ്പുറത്ത് നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 100 മീറ്റർ അകലെയായാണ് ദ്വീപ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. തെങ്ങുകളും ഇടതിങ്ങിയ ചെടികളും നിറഞ്ഞ ഈ ദ്വീപ് മുഴപ്പിലങ്ങാട് ബീച്ചിൽനിന്നും കാണുവാൻ കഴിയും. മുൻപ് സ്വകാര്യ സ്വത്തായിരുന്ന ഈ തുരുത്ത് കേരള സർക്കാർ ഏറ്റെടുത്തു.ഇവിടെ വിനോദസഞ്ചാരികളെ ആകർഷിക്കാനുള്ള പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ആരംഭിച്ചു കഴിഞ്ഞു. ധർമ്മടം തലശ്ശേരിയിൽ നിന്നും ഏകദേശം 6 കിലോമീറ്റർ അകലെയാണ്

Dharmadam Island: Uninhabited islands have always been an inspiration for films, movies, novels, and above all adventure seekers who yearn for an adrenalin rush. Here we bring to you a real-life deserted Robinson Crusoe island, the Dharmadam Island, in Kannur. Located about 100 m away from the pristine shores of Dharmadom Beach, Dharmadom Island has turned into a favorite spot for tourists seeking a secluded and tranquil picnic spot. This island is surrounded by mainland rivers on all three sides and sea on the fourth and gives us a brilliant view of the confluence of the Anjarakandy and Thalassery Rivers. One can approach this island only during low tide.
Things to consider while visiting Dharmadam island
On tourist season ( except Monsoon / heavy rain season which is June to October ) check tide table for Kannur and understand the low tide schedule. Just arrive before low tide and if the sea is calm, you could walk but be careful and don't go near any rocks where depth is more. The 10 minute walk through the sea is awesome. Really an amazing thing to do. Water will be probably below your knees or close to foot only on full moon or no moon day. Inside the island, there are no snakes or any such creatures to afraid. But make sure, you reach back to main land before high tide. Otherwise its so difficult and you have to wait till next LOW tide which is probably after 12 hours.

Dharmadam Island, also known as Green Island, is a beautiful private island densely covered with coconut palms and colourful orchids. The 5-acre island, overlooking the serene rivers and the majestic ocean, is filled with natural beauty itself. There are huge brown rocks around this completely uninhabited island and when tides hit these rocks, it creates a picturesque scene. During a low tide, the water level is quite low. This usually happens in the afternoon, somewhere between 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM. So you can walk up to the island from the beach since the island is just 100 m away from the mainland. But you must make sure that you return before the water level gets higher.

തലശേരിയിലെ ധര്‍മടം തുരുത്ത് സഞ്ചാരികള്ക്കു വേറിട്ട അനുഭവം തന്നെയാണ് സമ്മാനിക്കുന്നത്. നാലു ഭാഗവും അറബിക്കടലിനാല്‍ ചുറ്റപ്പെട്ടു കിടക്കുന്ന ആറ് ഏക്കര്‍ വരുന്ന കൊച്ചു ദീപാണ് ധര്‍മടം തുരുത്ത്.
സഞ്ചാരികളെ ധര്‍മടം തുരുത്ത് കുറച്ചൊന്നുമല്ല മോഹിപ്പിക്കുന്നത് . കേരളത്തിന്‍റെ യഥാര്‍ത്ഥ സൗന്ദര്യം ദൃശ്യമാകുന്ന ചുരുക്കം സ്ഥലങ്ങളില്‍ ഒന്നാണ് ധര്‍മടം.
തെങ്ങുകളും ഇടതിങ്ങിയ ചെടികളും നിറഞ്ഞ ഈ ദ്വീപ് മുഴപ്പിലങ്ങാട് കടൽത്തീരത്തുനിന്നും കാണുവാൻ കഴിയും. വേലിയിറക്കത്തിന്റെ സമയത്ത് ദ്വീപിലേക്ക് കടലിലൂടെ നടന്നുപോകാൻ സാധിക്കും.
വേലിയേറ്റമില്ലെങ്കില് കടലില് കാല് നനച്ചിരിക്കാവുന്ന വിധം ശാന്തമായ കടല്. തുരുത്തിലെത്തിയാല് മറ്റൊരു ലോകത്തെത്തിയ അനുഭൂതിയാണ് നമുക്കുണ്ടാകുക.
ചുറ്റും കടലാണെങ്കിലും തുരുത്തിനുള്ളിലെ കിണറില്‍ നിന്നും സഞ്ചാരികള്ക്കു ശുദ്ധജലം തന്നെ ലഭിക്കുന്നുവെന്ന പ്രത്യേകതയുമുണ്ട്. ധര്‍മടം പഞ്ചായത്തില്‍പ്പെടുന്ന തുരുത്തിലേക്കു കടല് തീരത്തു നിന്നു കടലിലൂടെ 150 മീറ്റർ ദൂരമാണുള്ളത്.
വേലിയിറക്ക സമയത്ത് കാല്‍നടയായി തുരുത്തിലെത്തുന്നവര്‍ വേലിയേറ്റത്തിനു മുമ്പു തിരിച്ചു കരക്കെത്തിയില്ലെങ്കില്‍ അടുത്ത വേലിയിറക്കം വരെ ദ്വീപിൽ കാത്തിരിക്കേണ്ടി വരും.
സ്വകാര്യ വ്യക്തികളുടെ തോണി ബുക്ക് ചെയ്തു തുരുത്തിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നവര്‍ ഏറെയാണ്. തലശേരിയില്‍ നിന്നും മൂന്നര കിലോമീറ്റര് ദൂരത്തിലും കണ്ണൂരില്‍ നിന്നും പത്തു കിലോമീറ്റര് ദൂരത്തിലുമാണു തുരുത്ത് സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. കണ്ണൂരില്‍് നിന്നും വരുന്ന സഞ്ചാരികള്ക്കു മൂന്നര കിലോമീറ്റര് വരുന്ന മുഴപ്പിലങ്ങാടു െരെഡവിംങ്ങ് ബീച്ചിലൂടെ സുന്ദരമായ യാത്ര നടത്തി മൊയ്തു പാലം കടന്ന് വലതു ഭാഗത്തുള്ള റോഡിലൂടെ ധര്മ്മടം ഫെസ്റ്റിവെല്‍് സെന്ററും സന്ദര്‍ശിച്ചു ധര്മ്മടം തുരുത്തിലെത്താവുന്നതാണ്. തലശേരി ഭാഗത്തു നിന്നും വരുന്നവര്‍ക്ക് തലശേരി കോട്ടയും ഓവര്ബറീസ് ഫോളിയും സി വ്യൂ പാര്‍്ക്കും സെന്റിനറി പാര്‍ക്കും കണ്ട് ധര്മ്മടം മീത്തലെ പീടിക വഴി പഴയ ധര്‍മ തിയറ്ററിന്റെ മുന്നിലുള്ള റോഡിലൂടെ സഞ്ചരിച്ചാല്‍് ധര്‍മടം തുരുത്തിലെത്താവുന്നതാണ്

DHARMADAM ISLAND (THURUTH): Tourist Destination in kannur
Dharmadam Island (Green Island)(കാക്ക തുരുത്ത്) was a small 2 hectare private island in Thalassery, Kannur District, Kerala. It lies 100 metres from the mainland at Dharmadam. This island, covered with coconut palms and dense bush is a beautiful sight from the Muzhappilangad beach. During low tide, one can walk out to it from the beach. Permission is required to land on the island . Dharmadam, known earlier as Dharmapattanam, was a Buddhist stronghold.
In 1998, Kerala Government took over this land for tourism development. Dharmadam is located 4 km from the town of Thalassery.

Kannur district in Kerala's Malabar region (north Kerala) is one of the most beautiful districts in India and yet not popular among tourists, like Alappuzha or Munnar. This means that you will travel to the destination without expectations and be surprised to find so many nuggets. Here are the best places to visit.
