The Netherlands is a small country in Europe that is known for its tulips, canals, windmills, and cheese. While these are all popular tourist destinations, there are also a number of other attractions in the Netherlands that are worth seeing.
Some of the best attractions in the Netherlands include the Anne Frank House, the Rijksmuseum, and the Keukenhof Gardens. The Anne Frank House is a museum dedicated to Anne Frank's life, a Jewish teenager who hid from the Nazis during World War II.
The Rijksmuseum is a large art museum that contains works by some of the most famous artists in history, such as Rembrandt and Vermeer. Most people think of things to do in Amsterdam, but the Netherland is so much more than just Amsterdam, the Keukenhof Gardens are a popular tourist destination because they are home to millions of tulips.
The Netherlands is also home to a number of interesting castles. The most famous castle in the Netherlands is the Burg Castle, which is located in the city of Groningen. Other notable castles in the Netherlands include the Muiderslot Castle, the Heidelberg Castle, and the Bourtange Fortress.
The history of the Netherlands is as diverse and colorful as its people. From prehistoric times to the present, their story has been one of constant change, with each era adding a new chapter in this nation's remarkable journey.
The earliest inhabitants date back 10,000 years ago when Neolithic tribes roamed what is now Holland. The area was then known as the Low Countries, a reference to its flat and fertile landscape.
Over the centuries, it has been ruled by a variety of empires, including the Romans, Franks, Spanish, and British.
In 1568, the Seventeen Provinces declared their independence from Spain, setting in motion a long and bloody war for liberation. This event is known as the Eighty Years War, and it culminated in 1648 with the Treaty of Westphalia, which established the Netherlands as an independent nation.
The Dutch built a thriving economy based on shipping, trade, and colonization in the centuries that followed. They became one of the world's most prosperous nations, and their culture flourished. The Golden Age of the Dutch Republic (1650-1700) is considered one of the most illustrious periods in their history.
Today, the Netherlands is a great place to visit for those who want to experience European culture. The people in the Netherlands are friendly and welcoming, and the country has a lot to offer tourists. Whether you are interested in art, history, nature, or castles, the Netherlands has something to offer you.

Texel is a popular tourist destination in the Netherlands, sadly not many people outside of the Netherlands are familiar or have even heard of this unique island that is why I felt it was time to expose Texel to the rest of the world with this uniquely crafted YouTube video and Texel travel guide loaded with tips and my personal advise.
Upon arrival on Texel treat yourself to the most popular local beer on the island; Skuumkoppe. A delicious 6% wheat beer made with fresh filtered dune water, also opt-in for a guided tour through the beer brewery and learn about the local Texel brewing processes.
If you are a big nature buff, definitely checkout the gorgeous De Slufter national park which is part of the Wadden Sea, a massive UNESCO world heritage site and the largest tidel area in the world. Make sure to taste a fresh sea lavender leave for its sea salt content.
Texel is primarily known for skydiving and oyster harvesting, these activities are absolutely worth in participating, especially the Texel Skydive, go watch my dedicated YouTube video and complete article on the skydiving experience on Texel. Oyster harvesting must have been my second favorite activity on the island, never in my life have I ever tasted such incredible oysters, the oysters from the Wadden Sea were massive and extremely creamy due to their size.
One important note on oyster harvesting, bring tall rain boats, the blubber will completely ruin your shoes. After those salty oysters, you may be in the mood for something sweet, if that is the case, drop by Bakery Timmer and try a local Tessels Kiekje and Hongerpunt which are Dutch cakes.
In the evening have dinner in village De Koog, the party town of Texel for its bars and night clubs. Definitely try the lamb stew at restaurant Eigeweis! If you visit Texel during the summer, you can also watch the fireworks show and ride fairs during the summer funfair.
Other great places are De Worsteltent restaurant for a quality dinner experience and ice cream farm Labora at which you should try the local flavours; Boerenjongens and Kwark. What makes Labora unique is the cows producing the milk literally on-site, go watch the automatic milk-robot at work.
Additionally, go back in time to the Dutch Golden Age at museum Kaap Skil to learn everything about the many Dutch merchant vessels laying anchorage at Oudeschild, Texel waiting for the right winds to set sail to the rest of the world. Texel used to be world's largest anchorage spot. Top it off at cheese cafe Wezenspyk and try the local stinging nettle and beer cheeses, you may be pleasantly surprised, bring those cheeses for the road trip back.
Basically, Texel is a small island consisting of 7 villages on the northern tip of the Netherlands. Texel receives 30% more sun compared to any other part of the Netherlands. In conclusion, consider Texel for a day trip or stay the night at the funky booby trap hotel De Kievit for a few laughs. If you like natural beauty, beaches, oysters, getting a bit dirty and local Dutch culture than Texel is for you!

Amazing Things to Do in Texel Island in Holland & Top Texel Attractions
Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Texel & Top Texel attractions. If you look for beautiful nature and lovely Dutch villages, visit Texel Island. The island has over 30 km of sandy beaches. The island’s most recognized landmark is Eierland Lighthouse which was completed in 1864. Climb 118 steps to its top and enjoy sensational view from its viewing platform.
In Texel Island you can even see seals living on the mudflats, don’t worry, they are not difficult to find. There are a few sandbanks where large numbers of seals live during the whole year. Make sure to keep a distance in order to not stress them.
It is said that Texel Island has as many sheep living on the island as inhabitants. It is pleasing to watch the sheep and lambs grazing on the pastures.
Visit also the fishing village of Oudeschild and its harbor filled with fishing boats. You can take a trip from here to shrimp fishing or spot seals from a different perspective.
Another worth-while attraction is the Maritime and Beachcombing Museum Flora in Den Burg. You can see an incredible collection of objects which have been washed up on the beach of Texel during the last 75 years.
You can reach Texel Island easily from den Helder by car. Take the ferry which leaves every hour and takes only 20 minutes.

In the Netherlands not far from Amsterdam, on the edges of IJsselmeer lake, lies Volendam and Marken. Volendam is a fishing village well known for its characteristic, authentic houses, sometimes called the pearl of the Zuiderzee, this place is a highly popular tourist destination.
Hop on the Marken express (boat) in Volendam to visit the nearby village of Marken. Marken is known for its characteristic wooden houses and traditional costumes. If you have seen Amsterdam, it is certainly worthwhile to visit in a half day trip Marken and Volendam, and possibly Zaanse Schans to see the beautiful Windmills in Holland. Stolphoevekerk, Burg. Kolfschotenplein 1. Not open to visitors. The oldest church in Volendam is the wooden Protestant Stolphoevekerk. This National Monument was built in 1658 in the shape of a farmhouse. The lovely little church is still in use.
St. Vincentiuskerk, Kerkepad 1. Open to visitors in the holiday season, otherwise during the weekend. The St. Vincentius church was opened in 1860, after protests from Roman-Catholic worshippers who had been forced for centuries to walk to Edam for their Sunday service.
De Visafslag, Haven 41, (info@devisafslagvolendam.nl),. Open for visits by appointment. The wooden fish auction was built in 1934, but is no longer in use. Now a National Monument, it remains a landmark today, even between the many other wooden houses.
Volendams Museum, Zeestraat 41, (info@volendamsmuseum.nl). 10AM-5PM, only during the holiday season. Historical museum, focusing on the period 1850 -1950, showing traditional costumes and interiors, as well as paintings and other works of art made by artists who visited Volendam. A special mention should be made of the Sigarenbandjeshuisje: over 11 million cigar bands were used to create mosaics on the wall of this room. 3 EUR.
Palingsoundmuseum, Slobbeland 19 (info@smitbokkum.nl) Restaurant Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum houses a small exhibition dedicated to the history of popular music from Volendam, that has been dominating the Dutch charts for more than 40 years.

Places of interest:
This lighthouse on the eastern end of the peninsula is one of the best known in the country. This 1839 structure is 16 meters high and is a National Monument. It can be seen from a long distance, and the site itself offers great views of the IJsselmeer.
Marker Museum In this small museum you can see a traditional Marken house as it would have been decorated in the old days. There's traditional clothing on display and a lot of information on the peninsula's history. Not all information is in English, though. The museum is only opened during the tourist season
The beautiful Wadden island of Texel - Holland Holiday
Texel, beautiful island in the Wadden Sea.
In the North of Holland there are 5 inhabitant wadden islands.
They border the North Sea and the Wadden Sea.
The Wadden Sea became UNESCO World Heritage.
About twice a day the tide transforms the landscape from land into sea, which developed a unique nature reserve.
This video shows you the largest island: Texel.
Take the ferry in Den Helder. They sail frequently.
The island is approximately 20 kilometers long and 8 kilometers wide and it offers a multitude of attractions.
We visit the picturesque village of Den Hoorn, beach village De Koog and shopping place Den Burg.
Be surprised by the little wadden harbour of De Cocksdorp. At low tide it runs completely dry. Eat fish in the cosy harbour of Oudeschild with its many terraces and drink the local beer ‘Skuumkoppe’ wich means white caps.
‘Ecomare’, shows you a lot about the Texel nature and history.
And they care for stranded sea animals.

You can spend a whole day there by watching small airplanes and parachutists while having a drink, a lunch or a diner on a comfortable terrace.

Let me tell you about the vibrant hub of Texel - Den Burg. As the capital of this island, it's home to nearly half of the 14,000 islanders, so it's no surprise that there's always something happening here. You'll find a delightful mix of chain stores and charming independent shops that give this location a unique flavor. From quirky decorative items to standout souvenirs, Den Burg has it all. And if you're in need of a little pick-me-up, be sure to grab a cup of coffee and a slice of Texel cake!
Now let's talk about De Koog, a true paradise for sun worshipers. This little gem is packed with lovely shops, cozy street cafes, tempting restaurants, and lively pubs. The best part? De Koog is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the beach, so you can go from city center to seaside in no time. And once you're at the beach, you'll find everything you need for the perfect day in the sun - powdery sand, inviting pavilions, and even a kiosk where you can rent beach gear like windbreaks, sun loungers, and beach huts. And for those who want to catch the sunset over the water, you can even sleep near the beach with a view that will take your breath away.
If you're looking for a truly unique experience, head to Kogerstrand, a campsite nestled in the dunes between the village and the beach. Here, you'll get up close and personal with the island's resident rabbits and pheasants as they roam freely around your tent or caravan.
