Number 7.LAKE SKADAR
Lake Skadar
A large freshwater lake, Lake Skadar is just 30 minutes south of Podgorica by car. The dolphin-shaped rock is said to have been made from the tears of a crying pixie. Its enchanting beauty fits the magical name. The lake is in a national park with lots of wildlife and beautiful places to take pictures.

Number 6. DAJBABE MONASTERY
Dajbabe Monastery
The Dajbabe Monastery is an active cloister that was first built in the late 1800s. The small stone building with a portico is surrounded by peaceful gardens with olive and cypress trees from the area. The founder of the monastery painted religious frescoes on the walls of an Orthodox church that is hidden in a cave under the monastery. Frescoes of prophets, religious figures, and local saints cover the whole cave, following the natural shape of the stone.

Number 5.WATERFALL NIAGARA PODGORICA
Waterfall Niagara Podgorica
Just outside of the city of Podgorica is a beautiful set of waterfalls called Niagara Podgorica. A big waterfall falls over a dam, and around it are a lot of smaller falls that have strange shapes because the limestone rock has been worn away. The best views are from the boulders, which make a narrow crevasse right in front of the falls. It's a very quiet place, surrounded by farms and a vast landscape of vineyards that grow grapes for Vranac, a type of red wine.

Number 4.PODGORICA CLOCK TOWER
Podgorica clock tower
Even though Podgorica was bombed a lot during the Second World War, the clock tower there is still standing tall. It's one of the few things left from the Ottoman Empire, so it stands out against the city's modern buildings in an interesting way. It is 16 metres tall and is a good place to meet for a drink in the afternoon. The famous building is a great example of Islamic architecture. It is in the middle of the busy Old Town.

Number 3.INDEPENDENCE SQUARE
Independence Square
Independence Square is one of the busiest places in Podgorica. It's also the centre of the city's arts scene, since the National Library and Al Galerija art gallery are right next to it. In the middle of the square is a sparkling fountain surrounded by palm trees and benches. People like to shop on both Vuedolska Street in the south and Slobode Street in the east. At night, Independence Square is lit up with bright colours, and people hang out in the bars and cafes nearby.

Number 2. OLD RIBNICA RIVER BRIDGE
Old Ribnica River Bridge
The crown jewel of Podgorica and the Ribnica River is the Old Ribnica River Bridge. The river flows through the northern part of the old town, which has more trees. From Park Forest Gorica, the city's biggest park, you can take a nice walk down to the Ribnica and along its tree-lined banks. Before you get to the monument to King Nikola, you will wind your way through King's Park and hear the birds singing. Along the way, you'll reach the old bridge at some point. The old Roman Bridge crosses the Ribnica where it meets the Moraca, which is its bigger brother.

Number 1. NJEGOSEV PARK
Njegošev Park`
If you wonder what to do in Podgorica, you definitely have to visit Njegošev Park. .You can enjoy the peace and quiet of Podgorica in the early morning at Njegoev Park, which looks out over the Moraca River. The peaceful park is between the three main river crossings in Podgorica. This makes it a good place to start exploring the city. Walk through the pine trees to the cafe in the middle of the park, where locals are getting strong coffee. It will give you the energy to see the rest of the city.

map of Montenegro

Montenegro (/ˌmɒntɪˈniːɡroʊ, -ˈneɪɡroʊ, -ˈnɛɡroʊ/ (audio speaker iconlisten); Montenegrin: Crna Gora,[a] Црна Гора, lit. 'Black Mountain', pronounced [tsr̩̂ːnaː ɡǒra]; Albanian: Mali i zi) is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is located on the Adriatic Sea and is a part of the Balkans, sharing borders with Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north and west, Kosovo[c] to the east, Albania to the southeast, the Adriatic Sea and Croatia to the southwest, and maritime boundary with Italy. Podgorica, the capital and largest city, covers 10.4% of Montenegro's territory of 13,812 square kilometres (5,333 sq mi), and is home to roughly 30% of its total population of 621,000.

During the Early Medieval period, three principalities were located on the territory of modern-day Montenegro: Duklja, roughly corresponding to the southern half; Travunia, the west; and Rascia proper, the north. The Principality of Zeta emerged in the 14th and 15th centuries. From the late 14th century to the late 18th century, large parts of southern Montenegro were ruled by the Venetian Republic and incorporated into Venetian Albania. The name Montenegro was first used to refer to the country in the late 15th century. After falling under Ottoman rule, Montenegro regained its independence in 1696 under the rule of the House of Petrović-Njegoš, first as a theocracy and later as a secular principality. Montenegro's independence was recognised by the Great Powers at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. In 1910, the country became a kingdom.

After World War I, the kingdom became part of Yugoslavia. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia, the republics of Serbia and Montenegro together proclaimed a federation. Following an independence referendum held in May 2006, Montenegro declared its independence and the confederation peacefully dissolved.

Montenegro has an upper middle-income economy and ranks 48th in the Human Development Index. It is a member of the United Nations, NATO, the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, and the Central European Free Trade Agreement. Montenegro is also a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean, and is currently in the process of joining the European Union Montenegro is divided into twenty-four municipalities (opština). This includes 21 District-level Municipalities and 2 Urban Municipalities, with two subdivisions of Podgorica municipality, listed below. Each municipality can contain multiple cities and towns. Historically, the territory of the country was divided into nahije.

Montenegro: Ostrog Monastery, Pavlova Strana & Lovćen [BEST Sunrise ☀️ in my Montenegro trip]

???? October 16th, 2021 ▶️ My Montenegro trip continues from the snowy Durmitor mountains back towards the central part of Montenegro. Passing Nikšić, I base myself in the amazing Sokoline Hotel to explore Ostrog Monestary from there. The nearby Pavlova Strana viewpoint reminded me of Vietnam quiet a bit! My plans of making it to Kotor the same day did not work out as there were no more cars going that way, so I decided to sleep in my tent up in the mountains north of Rijeka Crnojevića. I end up in a wineyard and witness the most amazing sunrise on the following day before getting a ride towards Kotor with a last quick stop at Lovćen mountain. Next Sunday we continue the series with the arrival in the Bay of Kotor! ????

A monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church, it is carved into Ostroška Greda, in Montenegro. A breathtaking view of the Bjelopavlići plain can be seen from the top, so visiting Ostrog Monastery can be a delight from both a religious and scenery perspective.

The Ostrog Monastery is the most popular pilgrimage place in Montenegro, and one of the most popular pilgrimage sites in the Balkans.

Each year, the monastery attracts up to 1 million visitors, with people of several different faiths, including Orthodox, Catholics, and Muslims, visiting from all parts of the world.

Garač (Montenegrin Cyrillic: Гарач) is a mountain in central Montenegro, overlooking the city of Danilovgrad from the southwest. Its highest peak, Milunova bobija, is 1,436 meters high. Despite its relatively small height, its shape and prominence of circa 1400 meters, rising above the Zeta River Valley and Bjelopavlići, earned it the nickname Montenegrin Kilimanjaro.

It is built of marble, limestone and dolomite, and its steep slopes are subject to erosion. The southern slopes are covered with forest, while the northern slopes are mostly barren

Visit Montenegro - Ostrog Monastery

Specific by the place in which it is located the monastery Ostrog represents one of the most valuable culturally -- historical and spiritual places in Montenegro. Incised into the rock it is situated near Niksic, that is, on 15 kilometers away from it. From the highway you should turn at the place called Bogetici from where there are 12 more kilometers to the Lower monastery Ostrog, and then another 2 kilometers to the Upper monastery.
