Built on the slopes of Mount Carmel, the history of settlement at the site spans more than 3,000 years. The earliest known settlement in the vicinity was Tell Abu Hawam, a small port city established in the Late Bronze Age (14th century BCE). In the 3rd century CE, Haifa was known as a dye-making center. Over the centuries, the city has changed hands: It has been conquered and ruled by the Phoenicians, Persians, Hasmoneans, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Crusaders, Ottomans, British, and the Israelis. Since the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, the city has been governed by the Haifa Municipality.
Today, the city is a major seaport located on Israel's Mediterranean coastline in the Bay of Haifa covering 63.7 square kilometres (24.6 sq mi). It is located about 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Tel Aviv and is the major regional center of northern Israel. Two respected academic institutions, the University of Haifa and the Technion, are located in Haifa, and the city plays an important role in Israel's economy. The Muhraka and the Druze village of Daliat el Carmel
Daliat el-Carmel is a Druze village, set on the slopes of the Carmel Mountain, in the north of Israel, near the city of Haifa. It's a brightly colorful unique village with hospitality for passersby as well as for tourists.
The Muhraka is located on the southern slope of Mount Carmel, near the Druze village of Daliyat el-Carmel.
Tradition has it that this was the very Biblical site where the prophet Elijah fought the prophets of Baal (1 Kings 18:16-45).
According to the Jewish Bible, Elijah approaches and leaves the mountain into the Jezreel valley and indeed the scenery from this point is breathtaking; all over the Jezreel valley.
Nowadays a Carmelite monastery resides at this exact point, commemorating the Biblical story.

Carmel Beach – We sat at the Camel and at the Nirvana for drinks.
Daliyat Al-Karmel – A Druze town near Haifa on Mount Carmel. We ate a Druze pita, which is a large and thin pita made on a tabun oven, filled with labane cheese, za'atar and olive oil
labane cheese= strained, thick and tangy yogurt.

Im zentralen Karmelgebirge im nördlichen Israel gibt es mit Daliyat al Karmal (auch Daliyat/Dalijat al-Karmil oder Daliyat el Karmel; hebr. דאליית אל-כרמל, arab. دالية الكرمل) und Isfiya (auch Isfija, Osfiya oder Ussafiya, hebr. עספיא; arab. عسفيا) zwei überwiegend von Drusen bewohnte Dörfer. Die beiden Orte sind inzwischen zusammengewachsen, einige Jahre waren sie bereits unter dem Namen Carmel City zu einer Gemeinde zusammengefasst.
Die beiden Orte werden von Touristen besucht, um einen Eindruck von der drusischen Religion und Kultur zu bekommen. Südöstlich von Daliyat al Karmal liegt mit dem Kloster Muhraqa eine der beiden Stellen im Karmelgebirge, die mit dem Wirken des Propheten Elia in Verbindung gebracht werden.

Head up the Mediterranean coast today, stopping first at Caesarea National Park to see the remains of the former Roman capital, including the ancient theater and hippodrome. Walk the seaside promenade to the renovated port area within the Crusader walls. See the Caesarea Experience, a fascinating computerized presentation of the city's history and best-known historical figures. The beautiful arched remains of the Roman aqueduct are right on the beach, so you can dip your feet in the Mediterranean before leaving the area.
Head to Mount Carmel to visit a Winery including a guided tour as well as a taste of wines and cheeses.
Continue through the forested Carmel National Park to a Druze village on Mount Carmel, Isfiya or Daliat El Carmel, where you can enjoy a slice of Druze life and culture and a taste of traditional Druze home hospitality.
Then, it's on to Haifa, Israel's third largest city, to see the magnificent Baha'i Shrine and Gardens, the world center for the Baha'i faith. Enjoy a panoramic view of the city and the bay from the Louis Promenade (a beautiful sunset activity), and head to the renovated old German Colony neighborhood for dinner and a stroll.

Далия – виноградная гроздь; Кармель – гора, на которой расположена деревня. Дальят-эль-Кармель - самая תольшая друзская деревня в Израиле.
Иногда они организуют день открытых дверей и приглашабт всех желающих познакомиться. Вот только на концерт народного творчества без своей машины попасть не получится. Это всегда субботние дни, когда общественный транспорт не ходит.
Пришлось довольствоваться общим знакомством в пятницу. Нас вышел поприветствовать глава местного совета. Ключевые посты он доверил женщинам.
Молельные дома имеют совершенно непримечательный вид обычного дома и находятся не в центре поселения, а с краю. Причина – секретность религии друзов, а также желание уберечь святые места при конфликтах. не привлекая к ним внимания.
В старой части домА с общей стеной забора, по принципу крепости. Если правильно поняла, то внешняя стена дома была общей с соседями, с нишей для обмена записками в случае опасности.
Друзы верят в переселение душ. В подтверждение экскурсовод рассказала душещипательную историю младшего брата, как он называл себя другим именем и нашел своих прошлых родителей (стал преемником души их рано погибшего сына, с теми же привычками и вкусом).
Памятники ставят только погибшим в армии и похороненным на воинском кладбище, свято чтут память и помогают их семьям. Не услышала об особенностях погребения гражданских. Поняла, что после 40 дней снимают траур и дальше религия запрещает печалиться.
Друзские религиозные мужчины всегда готовы к чуду, которое может произойти в любой момент. То есть любой из них может внезапно родить мессию и для приема бесценного плода носят штаны с гамаком.
Друзом может быть только родившийся от друзов. Образовавших смешанные семьи отлучают от общины.
Свод законов, регулирующий поведение, запрещает друзам играть в азартные игры, роскошествовать, употреблять в пищу свинину, пить алкогольные напитки и курить; требует довольствоваться малым, хранить честь женщины и семьи, не сквернословить, быть скромным и щедрым, великодушным и гостеприимным..

Daliat el Carmel , Дальят-аль-Кармель (в пер. - “Виноградники на горе Кармель”) - неофициальная столица израильских друзов.
Южнее Хайфы на склоне горного хребта около 500 м.
Селение было основано в 17 в. семейством друзов, выходцев из Сирии. Причина переселения друзов на территорию тогдашней Палестины – преследования друзов, исповедовавших религию, отличную от ислама, в мусульманских странах. Здесь же, глубоко в горах, они почувствовали себя в безопасности и со временем стали добрыми соседями и союзниками евреев.
Друзы очень привязаны к своим деревням, даже работать и учиться они предпочитают поблизости от них. Они не любят многоэтажных строений, селятся только в патриархальных деревенских домах. Их дома стоят близко один от другого: друзы всегда поддерживают тесные отношения с соседями. На молельных домах друзов – многоцветный религиозный флаг, каждая из цветных полос которого символизирует одного из праведников друзской религии.
В израильских городах друзы бывают только по делам или по работе, они очень привязаны к своей земле. Большой проблемой для друзских деревень сейчас является отсутствие земли для строительства новых домов: Далият Эль Кармель и соседняя друзская деревня, Исфия, которая находится еще ближе к Хайфе, обе находятся в Национальном парке Кармель, земли которого не предназначены для проживания. Варианты строительства многоэтажных зданий не принимаются друзами, привыкшими жить в низко этажных деревенских домах.
Друзы - это прежде всего религия, т.к. они этнические арабы. Их религия отделилась от ислама в 11 веке и стала самостоятельной, за что преследовалась мусульманами. Друзы говорят на диалекте арабского, близком к сирийскому. Их домашний быт близок к арабскому, НО израильские друзы (в отличии друзов, живущих на Голанских высотах) лояльны государству Израиль и служат в израильской армии.
В настоящее время в Израиле живет 130 тысяч друзов, из них 20 тысяч на Голанских высотах. В Сирии живет 865 тысяч, в Ливане от 280 тысяч до 350 тысяч. Израильские друзы - выходцы из Ливана и попали они сюда в 17 веке. В мусульманских странах из преследовали, т.к. их религия отличается от ислама и друзы стали специально селиться вдали от больших городов, в горах, так чтобы до них было сложно добраться. И здесь, на горе Кармель не было им покоя от мусульман, живших в соседних деревнях. Это одна из причин, почему здешние друзы стали союзниками евреев еще до образования государства.

Little Switzerland is on the Carmel Mountain range in northern Israel. Several hikes can be taken here, today we did the short and rather easy one. There is some climbing to be done but the views are worth it all.
Carmel in Hebrew derived fron kerem and El - meaning vineyard of God.
During Biblical times, Carmel is associated with the Prophet Elijah's victory over the Baal priests.
