Dahanu, a peaceful seaside town with a sprawling, uncluttered beach lies 120 kms from Mumbai city. The Dahanu-Bordi stretch is about 17 km and is lined with fruit orchards. Dahanu is favored for it's chickoo fruit that Irani settlers were the first to cultivate here. To this day many Parsi families have orchards here and have lived in this quaint town for many generations.
I visited one such Chickoo farm owned by a lovely Parsi family. They have constructed beautiful cottages in the middle of the plantation for city dwellers to enjoy a farm experience, a staycation on short weekend gateways.

Dahanu is famous for its beaches namely Parnaka beaches 1&2, Agar beach, Chikhale beach. People from Mumbai & Surat visit the town in large numbers during weekends and holidays, away from the rush and heat of the cities to enjoy its cool, calm, peaceful climate. Chicken bhujing (traditionally grilled chicken) is a local Dahanu dish that is available in roadside stalls in Agar village.

Dahanu Bordi Beach is located in Dahanu taluka of Palghar district. It is spread over a distance of 17 km. Not only for its extensive and tidy beach, Dahanu is also known for its vast chikoo fruit orchids.Although, it is quite warm during summer, the gentle breeze cools down the entire beach. Mecca of the Zoroastrians is a place, which is very popular amongst tourists as there is a magnificient temple, which houses the sacred fire of the Zoroastrians.It is belived that this fire has been kept alive for almost a thousand years. The existence of Iranian and Persian culture further makes this place more exotic.
By Train
Dahanu beach is at 3.8 Km distance from the nearest Dahanu road railway station. It takes about 10 Minutes to reach. Similarly Bordi beach is at 2.8 Km from nearest Gholvad Railway Station and can also be reached via Bordi railway station. For Dahanu Road trains are available from Mumbai and Virar.
By Road
Bordi is about 155 kilometres away from Mumbai. This distance can be covered in about 2.5 to 3 hours by road. Take NH 3 from Thane and continue on the road. Follow the Ghodbunder Road to NH8 in Versova, Mira- Bhayander. Follow NH8 to Dahanu – Jawhar road in Kasa. Continue on Dahanu – Jawhar Road before driving in to Umbergam road in Bordi.

This time, we planned a trip to Daman & Udvada, but decided to go to Udvada first to know more about Parsis and their culture. The Udvada Atash Behram is the most sacred and the oldest continuously burning fire-temple of the Zoroastrian in India . When we talk about Parsi, Sanjan automatically comes to our mind, where Parsis had laned first time as refugees years ago.
Sanjan is believed to have been founded by Zoroastrian refugees in Gujarat in 698 AD. Those Zoroastrians, whose descendants are known as the Parsis, since they came from persia.
The Udvada Atash Behram is one of nine Atash Behrams worldwide, eight of which are in western India -four in Mumbai, two in Surat, one in Navsari, and the one in Udvada, and one of which is in Yazd, in central Iran.

MAHALAXMI TEMPLE - DAHANU ROAD, MAHARASHTRA

This is my 5th Vlog based on a temple of the goddess god & most lovely god Mahalaxmi. This Vlog is specially done to explore the special occasion happen every year in Mahalaxmi temple based in Dahanu Road, National Highway - 8.
What so special about this temple: As every God temple is unique, depends on your angle of view & how you accept in your heart.
Dahanu chi Mahalaxmi is revered in the Konkan region & south Gujarat region. Locals believe that the goddess Mata Mahalaxmi used to stay here during her visit to Gujarat from Kolhapur. Hence, this place has an old history which dates back to 1001 AD. Dahanu has two temples of Goddess Mahalaxmi. One is located on National Highway Eight (NH-8) at Charoti Naka, and the main temple stands on the mountain called Mahalaxmi Hill which is around 3 to 4 km away. It is also known as Mahalaxmigadh. At Mahalaxmi temple, all puja rituals and function are performed by Satvi family and at Mahalaxmigadh, the puja rituals are conducted by Bolade family.
Festivals and Celebrations : Every year a festival is held here called ‘MahalaxmiYatra’ for fifteen days which starts from Hanuman Jayanti.
The trustee board of Mahalaxmi Mandir Charoti Naka and Mahalaxmi Mandir at Mahalaxmi Hill plays administrative roles. During the festive period, the tribal perform Taarpa dance for their revelry. This is the biggest event in the Dahanu region.
Thousands of people arrive here from parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Daman & Diu, and Dadra Nagar Haveli, to seek the blessings and to participate in the grand festival. Apart from ‘Mahalaxmi Yatra', many devotees and tourists visit Mahalaxmi Mata temple, especially on weekends and festival seasons. Temple remains crowded during the festive period of Diwali, Dussehra, Chaitra and Ashvin Navaratri. Chaitra Navratri is celebrated in March or April, whereas Ashvin Navratri is celebrated in the month of September or October. The festival is devoted to Goddess Durga and is considered to be the most celebrated festival. Celebrations during Navratri last for nine days and nine nights which also involve puja and fasting.
