I unknowingly put myself in a sketchy situation in my exploration of Guatemala's Zone 1 or Historic Centre. I start off by exploring the main park, then I make my way to the naughty area of La Linea (you'll see why it's naughty), where you can see the unfortunate reality some people live and work in.

Colonial Grandeur

In even the smallest towns you can find picturesque buildings -- the small coastal town of Retalhuleu has a charming central plaza, while larger coffee-boom towns like Cobán and Quetzaltenango maintain vestiges of their glory days in their cathedrals, town halls and other public buildings.
The Timeless Maya
While many ask whatever happened to the Maya, the simple answer is nothing -- theyre still here, and some traditions continue to thrive. If youre interested in archaeology, the must-see sites are Tikal, Copán (in Honduras), and Guatemala Citys superb selection of museums.
Living Maya culture can be witnessed in its pure form in towns like Rabinal and sacred sites such as Laguna Chicabal. And the Maya themselves? Well, theyre everywhere. But the most traditional villages are in the highlands -- the Ixil Triangle is a good place to start.

Panajachel Town Fair (Feria de Panajachel 2019) | Lake Atitlan | Guatemala | Eo. 66
In this episode, we are going to an annual Panajachel town fair (Feria de Panajache). Panajachel is the biggest hub on the lake, which means it has more shops, supermarkets, cafés and a wet market. If you live on the lake, Pana is a good place for shopping if you are looking for something special. Besides, tourists usually arrive at Pana first and then go to another town on the lake by boat.
Feria de Panajachel is an annual town fair which is held on Oct 4. It’s a festival to honor San Francisco de Asís, a Saint who set up a church & monastery after the Spanish conquest of Guatemala. And he used Pana as a center to convert the indigenous people of the region to the Roman Catholic faith.
Every town has its own similar town fair but praises a different religious person on a different date. This is like a tradition back in the Spanish colonial period.
From my point of view, those religious people were here to manipulate thoughts and destroy the Mayan culture step by step. So I don’t get that why the local people are still praising those so called Saint?
There’s not much information online for me to learn more about it. Would you tell me more in the comment section? Meanwhile, I just treated it as a fun town fair.
We came to Pana specially to see the performance but we were a little too early. So we visited the market first. Pana has the biggest market on the lake. If you are staying at other small towns which don’t have a proper market, you might consider to do you groceries here.
Because of the Fair, there were more vendors that usual. We could see many antique toys, games, thrill rides, etc. The performance was very interesting with traditional outfit, music and dance.
There is usually firework at night. If you live in Pana, you might consider to watch it.

Some of the coolest experiences in life are complete surprises and this is one of them. We ended up being offered a behind the scenes tour of Disney Studios and for a couple of nerds like us this was just an amazing memory in the making. We also take the opportunity to tour a little of San Pedro California before hopping on our favorite form of long distance transportation, a beautiful Royal Caribbean cruise ship, to roll along south to warmer climates. Along the way we stop in Mexico for some much needed beach time then take the opportunity to check another item off the bucket list by taking a boat tour on gorgeous Lake Atitlan in gorgeous Guatemala. Loving our lives!

heyy, this is my travel diary of my trip to Guatemala. Hope you enjoyed it, because I worked hard on this video :)
In case if you were wondering, my family had a stop at Panama and a layover and then we arrived at Guatemala. Then, we started our roadtrip to Tikal. After that we went to Esquipulas. Next, we went to stay at our family member's house for the rest of the trip. During that time, we would go out to the pueblos and cities near by. One of the days, we went to Lake Atitlan and it was so beautiful and fun. Pretty much after that we packed up and returned back home, and yes going to Panama then LAX. This video was the summary of the course of 3 weeks.
