Croton on Hudson, Croton Gorge Park, New Croton Dam | 4K Bike Ride

We went to the Croton on Hudson Dam. We parked at the Croton Gorge Park and the entrance fee was $10. They didn't accept NY Empire Pass unfortunately. The park was well maintained. We had to use the road outside of the park to ride our bicycles, but there were two foot paths to reach the top of the dam. The Croton Dam Road is extended all the way to the Gate House Bridge, and it is very nice ride!

The Bronx–Whitestone Bridge (colloquially referred to as the Whitestone Bridge or simply the Whitestone) is a suspension bridge in New York City, carrying six lanes of Interstate 678 over the East River. The bridge connects Throggs Neck and Ferry Point Park in the Bronx, on the East River's northern shore, with the Whitestone neighborhood of Queens on the southern shore.

The Hutchinson River Parkway (known colloquially as The Hutch) is a north–south parkway in southern New York in the United States. The roadway is named for the Hutchinson River, a short 10 mile (16 km)-long stream in southern Westchester County that the road follows alongside. The river, in turn, was named for English colonial religious leader Anne Hutchinson.

The Sprain Brook Parkway (also known as The Sprain) is a 12.65-mile (20.36 km) long north–south parkway in Westchester County, New York, United States. It begins at an interchange with the Bronx River Parkway in the city of Yonkers, and ends at the former site of the Hawthorne Circle, where it merges into the Taconic State Parkway.

The Taconic State Parkway (often called the Taconic or the TSP and known administratively as New York State Route 987G or NY 987G) is a 104.12-mile (167.56 km) divided highway between Kensico Dam and Chatham, the longest parkway in the U.S. state of New York. It follows a generally north-south route midway between the Hudson River and the Connecticut and Massachusetts state lines, much of its upper section along the westernmost flank of the Taconic Mountains.

The New Croton Dam (also known as Cornell Dam) is a dam forming the New Croton Reservoir, both parts of the New York City water supply system. It stretches across the Croton River near Croton-on-Hudson, New York, about 22 miles (35 km) north of New York City.

Croton Gorge Park is a 97-acre property at the base of the Croton Dam and affords impressive views of the dam and spillway. The park is a popular spot for fishing, picnicking and hiking, with direct trail access to New York State’s Old Croton Aqueduct, which begins here. In winter, the park is a favorite spot for cross-country skiing and sledding.

Croton Dam - Croton-on-Hudson, NY [4K]

The Croton Dam forms the Croton Reservoir, a part of New York City's water supply. It's the largest hand-hewn stone structure in the U.S. and the third in the world, and is located in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, about 20 miles north of New York City.

There are other videos of the Croton Dam, but many of them contain music and narration. I wanted to make a video just containing the natural sounds and sights of the dam and surrounding area. It's a beautiful and wondrous place.

Walking Croton Dam & Croton Gorge Park in Westchester NY | Outdoor Family-Friendly Hudson Valley

It may be November but it is still prime hiking season! Today we explored a breathtaking spot and are thrilled to share with you our view: Walking Croton Dam & Croton Gorge Park in Westchester NY part of our outdoor family-friendly Hudson Valley series! We tried earlier in the day but were turned away from full parking lots, so we spent a few hours at Croton Arboretum 3 miles away and came back around 4pm, at dusk which didn't leave us with a ton of time but we found a spot to park and hustled! It turned out to be a spectacular time to visit, with the sun setting it was stunning!! Hiking croton dam with kids can be as easy or hard as you like - we went up a ridiculously steep hill but later found a very easy gravel path, so take your time to find the route that works for your family! If you have the ability, don't skip going up over the dam, it's an AMAZING view on both sides!!! The porta potties were disgusting, but at least they had them. They also had a playground and a huge grassy knoll for picnicking! This is definitely for your list of best hiking for families in Westchester, and what to do with kids in Hudson Valley!

CROTON GORGE DAM REVISIT || EXPLORING HUDSON VALLEY

Croton Gorge Dam is located less than 50 miles away from NYC (it's an approximated distance and depends from where you're starting) and it's one of those nicest locations in upstate New York. Hidden away from the meandering and undulating roads as you travel North, one might not even notice its existence. Once you find it, you'll just want to go keep going back. The Hudson Valley is full of surprises and Croton Gorge Dam is certainly a hidden gem. As a personal opinion, if you can manage, then please do yourself a favor and try to visit Croton Gorge Dam in Summer, Fall and Winter. Each of these times of the year brings a whole different look to the same place and it's mesmerizing. Fall foliage can be a major attraction too since the area is densely vegetated and you're in for a visual treat. There are lots of good eateries within the small towns and you can enjoy a quick meal with your friends and family before entering the Croton Groge Dam park. A great place to relax and unwind.
