Having lived in Chicago for 20 years, we came up with our list of the top 10 free things to do in Chicago when we have guests visiting us from out of town. Come discover with us our beautiful city of Chicago and all the free attractions it has to offer.
If you are coming to visit Chicago for the first time and are wondering what to do in Chicago and what to see in Chicago, this video was made for you. We give you all the locals' advice on things to do in Chicago and things to see in Chicago. And not just any thing to do in Chicago: Free things to do in Chicago. There are lots of free things to do in Chicago if you are not afraid to walk a little bit. Chicago has a magnificent lake front and in the summer, you can enjoy the Chicago beaches. In addition to Lake Michigan, Chicago also has the Chicago River, which riverfront has now been developed in a nice walking trail. Chicago also has great shopping on Michigan Avenue. The Chicago Skyline is also spectacular and you can se it from Navy Pier, from the Museum Campus, or from Buckingham Fountain. But Chicago's favorite tourist attraction is now Cloudgate also know by the locals as the 'Bean'.

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.
We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.
We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.
Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Top 10 MUST SEE at the FIELD MUSEUM! - Chicago's Field Museum's best exhibits.
Chicago, Illinois's Field Museum may be my family's favorite natural history museum in the country. Doodle the Travel Bug road trips to the Field Museum and Chicago's museum campus to do a top ten list of the Field Museum's best exhibits. Really! This is cool stuff you got to check out! Science is fun and these are all Chicago must see!!! Let us know what you think of our top ten must see at the Field and what are your favorite most popular exhibits. So Come with us and our kids to this epic Chicago natural history museum.
The Field Museum was established in 1893 by Marshall Field, founder of Chicago's legendary department store. The Fields exhibits and collections cover subjects as wide-ranging as evolution, ancient Egyptian customs, Plains Indian life, gems, fossils, and taxidermy.

#10 Bushman the Gorilla- He was one of the first gorillas in any zoo and his home was the Lincoln Park Zoo. Bushman Gorilla was a symbol of strength for Chicago Soldiers fighting in World War II. When Chicago boys came home from war they had a gift for Bushman, one of Adolf Hitler's car tires. When Bushman passed away, he was taxidermized and put in the Field. He's not in an exhibit, but guards one of the entrances.
#9 Bendl Meteorite - This is a meteorite on display as one of the only meteors to hit and damage human property. The meteor went through a garage and Pontiac of an Illinois family.
#8 Mermaid and Fish In the Grainger Hall of Gems you'll find a beautiful Tiffany stained glass window, designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany. What made this glass window so special is that Tiffany loved this window so much that he kept it for himself and did not sell it. The Field Museum acquired the Tiffany window of a Mermaid and Fish 8 years after Tiffany passed.
#7 Narwhals - The taxidermy narwhals make our list because they are just cool! ha ha and they are somewhat of a hidden gem at the Field. The Narwhals are not in an exhibit, but on the ground floor of the museum by the soda and candy machines.
#6 Devils Corkscrew- Scientists were stumped by the fossilized Devil's Corkscrew until they found a fossilized beaver in one. It turns out it is a burrow of a prehistoric beaver.
#5 Mummified Animals- In the Egypt Exhibit you'll find plenty of mummies and tombs, but number five on our list is mummified animals. You'll find cats, falcons, gazelles, and baby alligators.
#4 Megalodon - The fossilized jaws of a Megalodon sit in the museums grand hall. The museum floor, behind the giant open mouth, has the outline of the humongous prehistoric shark in blue duck tape.
#3 Tiffany Gems - Located in the Grainger Hall of Gems You'll find the original gems that were here since the beginning of the field. The Tiffany Gems were on display at the World's Fair. When the fair closed, The fair's president bought all the gems and donated them to the Field.
#2 Sue- Maybe the most famous dinosaurs in the world. Sue is the world's biggest, best-preserved, and most complete Tyrannosaurus Red. Sue was named after the woman who discovered her. Sue is about 90% complete. Her head is actually a cast of her skull because it weighs too much to attach at around 600 lbs. Her skull is in a case beside her.
#1 The Tsavo Lions- The Man-eaters of Tsavo- Tucked away in the Rice Gallery among the African Taxidermy animals, you'll find these two mane-less male lions. In Kenya, over the Tsavo River a railway bridge was being built. Two lions started hunting the bridge workers and developed a taste for humans. Scientists estimate the Tsavo Lions killed over 35 people. Eventually the lions were killed and turned into rugs. The rugs were sold to the Field and eventually turned into taxidermy lions. There was a big Hollywood movie made of the Lions of Tsavo called The Ghost in the Darkness starring Michael Douglass and Val Kilmer.
Honorable mentions on our list is the Fields ginormous 3D printed mega planters. The planters hang from the ceiling and are made of a bioplastic the 3D printed planter gardens are the largest in the world.
Another honorable mention is the Field Museums Award winning restrooms.
