Things to do in the Southern Highlands, NSW | VAN LIFE AUSTRALIA ROAD TRIP | Ep 4

After a fantastic few days in Jervis, we packed up Marlee and hit the road again for the next leg of our Van Life Australia tour. This time we headed up into New South Wales' Southern Islands in the search of waterfalls, hiking trails and wombats!

In this episode, we visit Berry to try the world-famous doughnuts, check out Fitzroy Falls and Carrington Falls, and travel out to Bendeela Reserve to try and find some wombats.

Our Australia campervan road trip has been incredible so far and there are still so many great places left to see.

We want you to stay for a Long, Long Weekend in Cowra, Central NSW.

Goodbye two-day weekend, hello long, long weekend! That’s the travelling trend behind a new campaign launched by Central NSW Joint Organisation to welcome back visitors for a much overdue road-trip to the country.

‘Long, Long weekend’ highlights the new and unique attractions for couples and families taking a journey to Bathurst, Oberon, Cowra, Parkes, Forbes, Lachlan, Grenfell, Orange, Blayney and Cabonne.

“After months of lockdown, it will be an amazing experience to re-connect with the beauty of travel. We encourage everyone to take a few extra days to escape - skip the traffic, use untaken leave and treat yourself.” said Jenny Bennett, Executive Officer of Central NSW Joint Organisation.

“Feedback from visitors is that there is so much to see and do in Central NSW, that they wish they had come for longer, so this campaign encourages that. Come on a Thursday and stay until Monday and visit two to three different towns and villages.” added Jenny.

Central NSW is renowned for its idyllic scenery, historic towns, food and wine, outdoor adventures such as cycling, kayaking and hiking, and cultural delights at museums, galleries, boutique shops and art trails.

The campaign features new attractions the Mount Panorama Circuit Boardwalk in Bathurst and a 22-metre-long Goanna sculpture in Forbes at Sculpture Down the Lachlan, through to the Cowra Japanese Garden, Jenolan Caves in Oberon and the Parkes Elvis Festival (20-24 April 2022).

There’s the inspiring cool-climate Mayfield Garden (Oberon), swimming at Flat Rock natural pools (Bathurst), food and wine (Orange), fishing at the beautiful Lachlan River and history at POW Camp (Cowra), Utes in the Paddock outdoor art trail and swimming at Lake Cargelligo (Lachlan), astronomy at ‘The Dish’ Parkes Observatory (Parkes), birdwatching at new bird hides at Gum Swamp Wetland (Forbes), Iandra Castle and Weddin Mountains National Park (Grenfell), Molong historic village shops (Cabonne), and Millthorpe village wineries (Blayney).

For a long, long weekend accommodation includes farm-stays, luxury boutique hotels, B&Bs, glamping and camping through to motels and apartments.

The campaign features new videography by Geagle Productions with digital marketing and public relations.

Go to Central NSW begins two hours’ drive West from Sydney and includes Oberon, Bathurst, Orange, Blayney, Cabonne, Lachlan, Cowra, Grenfell, Parkes and Forbes. #longlongweekendcentralnsw

Canowindra Hot Air Balloon Festival, Cowra Van Park, Cowra Japanese Gardens & Nature Playground

#canowindra #canowindrahotairballoonchallenge #cowra #visitnsw
This trip which was in April of 2022 was a different one! We went to visit the Canowindra Hot Air Balloon Challenge Festival which is held annually. It is a great trip for the entire family, showcasing all of the colourful enchanting hot air balloons in the sky as well as on the ground at the balloon glow. There are market stalls and live bands which make the festival and amazing event for young and old.
We later saw the hot air balloons in the air the next morning as we drove along the country roads. It was a gorgeous day for a wander around the Cowra Japanese Gardens which were spectacular before we finished the day at the Cowra Nature based adventure playground.

Easter 2004 Road Trip To Young and Cowra

Way back in Easter 2004 we did a small road trip out to Young, Cowra and Bathurst in New South Wales. We did the tourist thing and visited historic and scenic sites, wineries and restaurants. We even take the Toyota for a spin around the legendary Mount Panorama circuit at Bathurst. I'd forgotten I've had the old Toyota for so long.
This is another DVD I dug out of the archives. It probably hasn't been seen since 2004.
