To reach Ramesh in Sancoale, whether coming from the north, Panjim side or the south, Margao side, avoid taking the new Zuari bridge which bypasses Cortalim. From the Cortalim circle on the Panjim-Margao highway, turn westward onto the Cortalim-Vasco road***. Very soon, you will see glimpses of the beautiful Shree Shantadurga Sankhalyo temple on the left, which is your signal to take the very first left turn onto Caetano Manuel road. Continue down this road, past the temple, and when you reach numerous cars parked on both sides of the road, you have reached Ramesh.

This small place has become so popular and therefore so packed at lunchtime, that Ramesh has had to keep staff just to manage traffic on this narrow road. This is a lesson that some of our more famous Benaulim restaurants need to learn.
Today, Viola is having chonak thali and Roma and I are sharing a tamso thali and Maria is having a Goan veg thali. The four of us are also sharing a prawns plate and a Goan chilli chicken plate.
Costs we paid: Chilli chicken Rs 200, prawns rawa fry Rs 400, chonak thali Rs 220, tamso thali Rs 220, veg thali Rs 120
The Goan fish curry rice plate here is exceptional. It has curry, fish head bhaji, bhendi, sol kadi, salad, pickle, rice and a beautiful piece of tamso/chonak. The super tasty curry in the fish thali was of prawns with drumsticks.
It’s so nice how, at Ramesh, they refill your vati with extra curry. That was a top quality Goan meal with side orders of chilli chicken and good sized prawns that we enjoyed at just Rs 300 a head. With such generous and delicious food at very affordable rates, no wonder there is always a crowd inside and outside Ramesh Bar, a must-visit when in and around Cortalim-Sancoale-Dabolim, or on way to or from Dabolim airport/Vasco da Gama city

Filsu Classic's Goan Food, Cortalim, Goa, June 2023
Today we are going to old Filsu (a Goan restaurant) in Cortalim-Quelossim, by the Zuari river
Filsu Classic is located bang opposite the Cortalim fishing jetty on the Cortalim-Loutolim-Borim road. If coming from the south Margao side, you can take the Panjim highway but stay below the new Zuari bridge and take any of the turns on the right to join the Cortalim-Loutolim-Borim road. If coming from Panjim-Bardez side, stay below the new Zuari bridge at Agassaim and proceed towards Margao on the old Zuari bridge. When you see the ladies selling kulleo (crabs) and tisreo (shellfish), you will see the Cortalim-Loutolim road running parallel to you. Take the u-turn onto this road from near the right turn for Dabolim airport.

This place has done very well. They started here in Cortalim-Quelossim more than 45 years back and now they have their own place in Verna Industrial Estate. Plus they have their own small local bar next to Filsu Classic in Cortalim.
This video was shot on June 6, before the monsoon started in Goa. It was still very hot, so we went upstairs and sat in Filu's AC section. Today we had chonak rechead fry (Rs 480), modso thali (Rs 260), Goan veg thali (Rs 160), beef chilli fry (Rs 270) and xinaneo rawa fry (mussels Rs 470).
Filsu Classic's Modso thali: modso (lemon fish) fry, fish curry, kismur (dry prawns and coconut salad), tendli (ivy gourd) bhaji, tisreo (shellfish), sasav (sweet sour vegetable with mustard seeds), sweet, tival/futi kadi, salad, pickle and Goan rice.
We really enjoyed all the food. Roma's butterscotch ice cream for dessert was like a proper sundae.
