As of 2010, Chamoson had an unemployment rate of 6.9%. As of 2008, there were 423 people employed in the primary economic sector and about 118 businesses involved in this sector. 272 people were employed in the secondary sector and there were 41 businesses in this sector. 370 people were employed in the tertiary sector, with 86 businesses in this sector.[7] There were 1,193 residents of the municipality who were employed in some capacity, of which females made up 42.1% of the workforce.

History
Chamoson is first mentioned in 1050 as Camusia. In 1233 it was mentioned as Scamosun.[3]
Geography
Chamoson has an area, as of 2009, of 32.5 square kilometers (12.5 sq mi). Of this area, 8.02 km2 (3.10 sq mi) or 24.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 10.11 km2 (3.90 sq mi) or 31.1% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 2.29 km2 (0.88 sq mi) or 7.1% is settled (buildings or roads), 0.54 km2 (0.21 sq mi) or 1.7% is either rivers or lakes and 11.44 km2 (4.42 sq mi) or 35.2% is unproductive land.[4]
Of the built up area, housing and buildings made up 3.2% and transportation infrastructure made up 2.9%. Out of the forested land, 25.3% of the total land area is heavily forested and 1.9% is covered with orchards or small clusters of trees. Of the agricultural land, 1.1% is used for growing crops and 1.8% is pastures, while 15.9% is used for orchards or vine crops and 6.0% is used for alpine pastures. All the water in the municipality is flowing water. Of the unproductive areas, 6.5% is unproductive vegetation and 28.6% is too rocky for vegetation.[4]
The municipality is located on the right side of the Rhone. It consists of the settlements of Chamoson, Saint-Pierre-de-Clages and Grugnay as well as the spring pasture camp of Mayens-de-Chamoson.

Hiking in Switzerland | Dent de Nendaz via Balavaux | Swiss Alps Canton Valais | 2020 (4K-Video)
Breathtaking view over the Swiss Alps as we hiked over the mountain ridge trail from Le Basso d'Alou to the Dent de Nendaz. At Haute-Nendaz cable car station we took a cab ride and started our tour near the small lake Gouille d'Ouché. Then we followed the famous irrigation canal Bisse de Saxon all around the mountain and up to the village of Prarion. The path climbs continously until we reached the alp Balavaux. A very steep alpine trail brought us all the way from Balavaux up to the mountain ridge at Le Basso d'Alou. From there we followed the challenging ridge trail up and down over various peaks until we finally reached the summit of Dent de Nendaz. From there we descended to the Tracouet lake and the cable car station of Tracouet where we took a ride back down to Haute-Nendaz.
Tour itinerary
The tour officially starts at the Haute-Nendaz cable car station but we skipped the first 4 km/300m with a cab ride and started our tour at the lake Gouille d'Ouché (1710m). After a short hike the path joins with the Bisse de Saxon (1755m). On almost level ground you follow all around the mountain until the path diverges to the alpine village of Prarion. The trail continously climbs to Prarion and then even further to the alp Balavaux (2050m). Soon after Balavaux a steep alpine trail leads directly to the ridge at Le Basso d'Alou (2337m). From there you follow the rige all the way to Dent de Nendaz (2463m). Once you reach the summit you can see the cable car station at lake Tracouet down below (2169m). A last descent brings you to the lake and the station where the cable car brings you back down to Haute-Nendaz.

Avalanche in the Lower Engadine in Switzerland
An avalanche decline near Vinadi in the Lower Engadine. The Lower Engadine, with its holiday resorts of Scuol, Samnaun and Zernez, its picturesque mountain villages and the Swiss National Park, guarantees a relaxing and active holiday: hiking, biking, rafting and nature experiences are the order of the day. Many pass crossings make attractive discovery trips to neighboring valleys and countries possible.
Enjoy the valley of the young Inn excellent on foot, on the bike or rafting. The hike along the Engadine mountain trail Via Engiadina (over 60 kilometers from Maloja to Scuol) along the sunny side of the Inn Valley is one of the most beautiful hiking experiences in Switzerland on its section in the Lower Engadine. Those who prefer to experience the Inntal in a bicycle saddle, at least take a part of the Inn cycle path, which begins in St. Moritz and ends in Budapest, under the wheels. The whitewater canyons of the Inn are undoubtedly one of the best rafting routes in the Alps from late May to late September.
The village of Zernez, with its location as the gateway to the national park, is the ideal starting point for discovering Switzerland's largest wilderness with its wealth of alpine animals and plants. Finally, Samnaun is Switzerland's only toll-free region. The place offers in summer a variety of theme trails in intact landscape. In winter, the place is popular because of the extensive common ski arena with the Austrian Ischgl.
The Lower Engadin is an Eldorado for passionate passers-by. In Susch not far from Zernez begins the ascent to Flüela Pass (2383m), which connects the Lower Engadine with Davos. The Ofen Pass leads through the Swiss National Park into the Münstertal, from where the Umbrail continues to the Stelvio Pass. An attractive day trip in the border triangle Switzerland - Italy - Austria follows the Münstertal further into the Italian Vinschgau, over the Reschenpass and a few kilometers over Austrian territory back to the Lower Engadine. Ich genieße den ruhigen und abgelegenen Platz bei La Sarraz vor Lausanne in meinem Kastenwagen, Globecar Campscout B (ähnlich Pössl Roadcruiser B). Nah am Naturschutzgebiet, ein Geheimtipp.
Später halte ich noch einen Autobahnparkplatz mit Aussicht. Und was für einer. Auf den Genfersee! Leider etwas laut, dafür gibts aber auch Wasser!
Und dann geht es los, schon mal einen Berg mit 27% Steigung und maximaler Breite von 2,30 m gefahren? Mit einem Kastenwagen? Geht das? Ich finde es raus. Es kostet aber Schweiß und Nerven....der Wahnsinn

In this second episode of the series, the rich history of the valley along the river Simme, in Canton Bern, is evoked by visiting the richly decorated historical houses made of wood.

About 8 km west of the cantonal capital Sitten / Sion in the valley of the Rhône, the village of Aven is located at an altitude of about 1000 meters above sea level. Shortly above, at the chapel of St. Bernard, the road begins, which is about 10 km long and leads north through the valley of the river Lizerne to the Lac de Derborence (about 1500 meters). In 1749 the lake, which is now a nature reserve, was dammed by a huge rockfall of the mountain Les Diablerets. The valley lies in the district of Conthey in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The road is largely cut into the vertical rock, passes through a large number of smaller tunnels and lies about 300 meters above the valley floor.
This route belongs to the so-called Swiss Balcony Roads.
