Llegar a Tlalpujahua es fácil, se encuentra a medio camino entre la Ciudad de Morelia y la Ciudad de México.
Saliendo desde Santa Fé el recorrido es de aproximadamente 1:40 minutos. Desde Morelia es de 1:30, al igual que de la ciudad de Querétaro.
Sobre la autopista México-Morelia se encuentra la desviación para llegar a Tlalpujahua, y como tiene su propia caseta, no te será difícil saber donde emprender el camino hasta aquí.
Es increíble despertarte en la mañana, y sentir los primeros rayos de sol con el frío de la montaña y oler a pan recién hecho que te lleva directo al centro en busca de un rico desayuno.
Caminando por las calles encontramos un lugar muy bonito para desayunar, el restaurante del Carmen, un lugar muy acogedor que simplemente nos invitó a pasar. Lleno de arte y objetos antiguos que tan solo hace unos años seguramente eran parte de los objetos cotidianos de cualquiera de estas casas.
Mientas nos tomamos este rico desayuno nos ponemos a pensar la cantidad de historias que tiene este pueblo. Como esa de la riqueza por el oro, de su casi destrucción en los años 30’s del siglo pasado por el deslave de la tierra, al que se le conocen como las lamas, las cuales por cierto destruyeron el santuario del Carmen, pero su virgen se salvo, por eso esta virgen es tan venerada aquí, de ahi el nombre de este restaurante,
Pero aquella no fue la primera desgracia que casi acaba con el pueblo, a principios del XVIII un gran incendio destruyó muchos edificios importantes, templos y archivos, pero nada ha detenido a este lugar de salir adelante.
Esta zona originalmente estaba habitada por el pueblo Mazahua el cual fue conquistado por los Purépechas en 1460 y esta zona fue el limite territorial desde que Axayacatl invadió el territorio. Ambos imperios mantuvieron esta frontera hasta la llegada de los españoles, que conquistaran de nuevo el lugar y fundaran el nuevo pueblo un siglo después de la conquista Purepecha en 1560, dejando su antiguo nombre de Tlalpujahuac.
s hora de dejar maletas en el hotel, así que acompáñenos para allá.
Nos quedamos en el Hotel Tlalpujahua Inn y coincidimos con que fue la mejor elección y lo mejor que te puedo ofrecer es la calidad humana de su dueña, además de que esta casa tiene su historia.
Entre su patio y sus habitaciones se sigue respirando el olor a casa, a familia. Su dueña ha vivido aquí desde niña, y esas son las historias que te cuenta, de como era la vida en ente pueblo hace algunos años, te hace imaginarte a los niños corriendo por el patio y las escaleras a olor a comida y tradición.
El frío comienza a sentirse cada vez mas fuerte, pero eso hace que la casa convertida en hotel te llene de calidez, y ni la lluvia ni el frío nos impidieron sentarnos en sus mesillas al aire libre y platicar por horas con su dueña, que nos llenó de anécdotas mientras tomábamos un mezcal para calentar el espíritu.
Este hotel hace honor a la palabra posada, como aquellas antiguas paradas de viajeros, donde te daban resguardo del frío, es llegar aquí y encontrarte con una habitación distinta una de la otra, como si fuera tu propia habitación esperándote para que te cubras de ese frío que te invade, un hotel para enamorarse de Tlalpujahua. Nos dormimos y esperábamos que con este frío amaneciera nevando, como lo habían pronosticado, pero no fue así, la mañana fue un poco más cálida, solo un poco, 2 grados centígrados, pero no suficiente para ver nevado este pueblo. Esperamos que el proximo invierno caiga nieve para pasar unos días increíbles en medio del bosque.
Y aunque digan que Santa Claus es extranjero, que también lo son los Reyes Magos, solo por aclarar, pues aquí Santa tiene sucursal y sus duendes no descansan en verano. Se producen al rededor de 38 millones de esferas al año y cerca de 27 millones viajan al mundo, es el mayor productor en latinoamérica y el quinto en todo el mundo.
Otra cosa de mucha tradición en esta zona son sus licores, y sobre todo uno, La Chiva.
La Chiva bebida de mineros, para cualquier mal estomacal, para aumentar la energía, bajar la presión arterial, para ponerte alerta y para las mujeres quitar la doble ceja, el bigote, y para las que estén chapeadas de paño, la receta de la casa, se puede replicar, pero como nos cuenta Doña Martha, aunque les de la receta, tienen que ir al monte para cosechar las hiervas y ya con eso jamás la harán como yo, treinta años haciéndola y contando.

REAL DE CATORCE, SAN LUIS POTOSI, MEXICO - Hola amigos! We have finally made it to the former silver mining town of Real de Catorce in the state of San Luis Potosi in Mexico! This is a feature length video detailing a location which gives you an authentic feel of the Mexican desert. If you'e planning a Mexico trip or Mexico vacation in 2019, San Luis Potosi and Real de Catorce have to be on your itinerary!
Real de Catorce is located approx 2700 metres above sea level north of Matehuala in San Luis Potosi state. It rose to prominence in the late 1700s when silver was discovered, which became the main industry in the area. Once the early 1900s came, the price of silver had plummeted, resulting in the town being largely abandoned.
You can visit Real de Catorce on a tour/bus from San Luis Potosi or Matehuala or do it yourself as I did (My Airbnb host in Cedral drove me). There is a bus back at 1540 and at other times throughout the day (you get a small bus through the Ogarrio tunnel then change to a Grupo Senda bus to Matehuala).
You can also visit the ghost town higher up by horse, or (As I did), walk! It takes about 1-1.5hrs depending on fitness.

???????? CÓRDOBA, VERACRUZ - Hola amigos and welcome to the first video from my Mexico Travel 2022 series! We're in Córdoba and Orizaba, Veracruz for the next 2 videos, exploring a state which has eluded me for years on my previous Mexico trips! Why does no one come here?
Prepare for amazing Mexican seafood with the awesome Arroz a la Tumbada, a great example of Mexican food (comida Mexicana, or comida Veracruzana!), an insane ruined hacienda in Toxpan, formerly a sugar mill, and a walk around a Mexican city which has a lot to offer!
If you're looking for places to visit or things to do in Mexico, Córdoba is a great option as a lesser-known city with no expats or foreigners! (at least I didn't see any!). Alternatively, if you are one of those people interested in moving to Mexico, Córdoba might be a possibility!

Teúl de González Ortega Zacatecas | El Pueblo Mágico con Trajineras | Zona Arqueológica y Mezcal
Teúl de González Ortega en Zacatecas es un Pueblo Mágico cuya belleza natural y arquitectura le dan un aspecto colonial de extraordinaria sencillez y belleza.
Teúl esta custodiado por gárgolas, calzadas empedradas y muros de cantera; y vecindario de gente amistosa, cálida y de mezcal. La región es fértil en agave azul, con él se elaboran diversos tipos únicos de mezcal; aquí tienes la oportunidad de conocer el proceso de elaboración en alguna de las fábricas o talleres.
En Teúl también encontrarás fascinantes los talleres donde se trabaja la madera, particularmente en la elaboración de máscaras para los danzantes; o bien los de alfarería. Este es el único municipio en todo el país que tiene dos Santos Mártires y monumentos prehispánicos de mucha importancia;
Características:
Teúl (teotl) Dios, es también un adjetivo que califica a los chichimecas como sagrados, venerados, respetables (Tetl) “Gran piedra redonda”, según otros. La zona fue habitada desde tiempos prehispánicos por grupos como los Teules, una ramificación del grupo caxcan, y también hay referencias de Chichimecas.
“De González Ortega”, porque en 1800 llega al Teúl un tío del Gral. J. Jesús González Ortega quién funda una escuela. La cercanía del general con el municipio propicia, por medio del decreto No. 195, que se cambie el nombre de San Juan Bautista del Teúl, por el de Teúl de González Ortega en 1935.
Se encuentra a una altitud 1,900 m, rodeado de montañas, mesetas y algunos llanos. El clima es semicálido a templado, con temperatura media en los 17º C; y un par de ríos que alimentan las presas de la región. Por lo que existen bosques con especies maderables e importantes recursos agrícolas y ganaderos; destaca la siembra de agave azul que culmina con la preparación del mezcal.
La cocina local es popular con guisos con pipián, gorditas de horno, queso de rancho y requesón. Los recuerdos son compras basadas en alfarería, dulces artesanales, madera tallada, mezcal, y textiles como rebozos deshilados.

“De González Ortega”, porque en 1800 llega al Teúl un tío del Gral. J. Jesús González Ortega quién funda una escuela. La cercanía del general con el municipio propicia, por medio del decreto No. 195, que se cambie el nombre de San Juan Bautista del Teúl, por el de Teúl de González Ortega en 1935.
Se encuentra a una altitud 1,900 m, rodeado de montañas, mesetas y algunos llanos. El clima es semicálido a templado, con temperatura media en los 17º C; y un par de ríos que alimentan las presas de la región. Por lo que existen bosques con especies maderables e importantes recursos agrícolas y ganaderos; destaca la siembra de agave azul que culmina con la preparación del mezcal.
La cocina local es popular con guisos con pipián, gorditas de horno, queso de rancho y requesón. Los recuerdos son compras basadas en alfarería, dulces artesanales, madera tallada, mezcal, y textiles como rebozos deshilados.
Zona Arqueologica Cerro del Teúl
Hasta hace una década, el Cerro del Teúl, al sur de Zacatecas, era en la memoria de sus habitantes sólo uno de los últimos bastiones de los aguerridos caxcanes que sucumbieron a la invasión española, sin embargo, un proyecto de largo aliento fue revelando a “La morada de los dioses” como un sitio que mantuvo una ocupación ininterrumpida de aproximadamente mil 600 años, iniciada un par de siglos antes de nuestra era.
El equipo arqueológico del Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) sacó a la luz parte del centro ceremonial que se distribuye en la ladera nororiental del cerro: la Plaza Principal, el Patio Hundido y la Cancha del Juego de Pelota, para constituir la tercera zona arqueológica abierta al público en ese estado, después de La Quemada y Alta Vista Chalchihuites, y la 191 en el país.

???????? MAZATLÁN, SINALOA, MEXICO - Welcome to another Travel Mexico 2021 video! This is part 8 of my (planned) 24 episode series coming from (mainly) Northern Mexico! Today we're in the state of Sinaloa - we're not asking the questions, is Sinaloa safe?, or talking about the Sinaloa cartel. Instead, we're focusing on Mazatlán, a beach destination which may be passed over in favour of some of Mexico's best beaches in Puerto Vallarta or Cancun. But, is it better than Puerto Vallarta?
Is Mazatlán a suitable location for a gringo or perhaps an expat couple moving to Mexico? We'll cover that more in the next video which will go into some of the detail and some of my observations.
This video is an overview of just some of the things to do in Mazatlán. There will more videos to come as I head north in Sinaloa!
You can check out Mazatlán's Centro Historico, beaches including Olas Altas, eat some amazing Mexican food such as Tacos Gobernador (with shrimp!), and head up to the Faro Lighthouse for some amazing views. And much more!
If you're thinking about moving to Mexico or becoming one of the increasing number of expats in Mexico, your choices aren't limited to popular areas like Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Cancun or Puerto Vallarta. You might even be looking for off the beaten track Mexico. Sinaloa is a state that, granted, you'll need to be able to speak Spanish in, but the city and state has so much to offer, just as much as those other places!
