MOLDOVA | Travel from Gagauzia to Transnistria | COMRAT to TIRASPOL
NOVEMBER 2019 After a wonderful 3 days in Comrat it was time to head to the republic of Transnistria, also known as Pridnestrovskaia Moldavskaia Respublica (PMR).
We thought we had to go via Chisinau, but it turns out that there were daily marshrutkas that ran directly from Comrat to Tiraspol!
It was a great opportunity to see the countryside and to enjoy a scenic marshrutka ride!

Gagauzia Culture COMRAT MOLDOVA | BEST FREE WINE FESTIVAL IN EUROPE
Gagauzia Wine Festival 2019. An amazing day spent experiencing the incredible culture, hospitality and wine of the Gagauz people in Comrat.
The festival is held on the first Sunday of November every year, and it is definitely worth coming to Comrat for the festivities! As well as music, dancing and cultural displays, there is a vast amount of delicious wines on offer to taste and buy. Also, you can sample the amazing local food produced by each Gagauzian village.
This event is free to attend and was a highlight of our experience travelling in Moldova.
The autonomous region of Gagauzia is a fascinating anomaly in Europe. 83% of the Gagauzian people are Oghuz Turks who speak an archaic form of Turkish, but are Orthodox Christians. They have a unique culture which they are very proud of, and which is fascinating to see.

A fabulous wine tourism lunch at Vinuri de Comrat in Moldova

Comrat is an ambitious and exciting wine tourism project, still in process but very promising. They seem to have what it takes to make that happen, which is above all a very welcoming approach. Not only the people themselves but also the newly created garden feels very inviting. And the wine tourism lunch they prepare is fantastic. We taste several different dishes. As always in Moldova, the lunch feels very generous. The typical soup made with suckling lamb, carrots and fresh herbs has been simmering for a long time with careful stirring, and it tastes delicious.
