The Long Island Rail Road (or LIRR) is a commuter rail that goes through Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, and Suffolk. It's a great way to see the areas east of New York City (which is Long Island). I use it to go to Far Rockaway beach, Citifield for a Mets game, and Billie Jean King/Arthur Ashe for the US Open Tennis. But how do you take the LIRR? How do you ride the Long Island Rail Road? In this video, I'm going to cover everything you need to know about the Long Island Rail Road — from defining what it is to buying a ticket from a machine or phone, finding and boarding your train, figuring out transfers, and so much more. Eagle’s Nest - The Vanderbilt Mansion of the Gold Coast age - Interior
In the summer of 1910, William K. Vanderbilt II bought 20 acres on a wooded hill above Northport Bay. There, he commissioned the renowned New York City architecture firm of Warren & Wetmore to build him a summer house. The partners had designed and built Grand Central Terminal in New York City (1903-13) for his great-grandfather Cornelius Vanderbilt’ s (1794-1877) New York Central Railroad.
Between 1910 and 1936 the architects expanded the house into a stunning Spanish-Revival style mansion Vanderbilt called Eagle’s Nest. Over the years, Vanderbilt purchased more land and expanded the estate to 43 acres. One of the few remaining Gold Coast mansions, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
A notable feature of the 24-room mansion – in addition to its distinctive architecture – is the elegant decorative ironwork created by Samuel Yellin, considered the greatest iron artisan of his time. He created window grilles, door handles, light fixtures, railings, planters, gates and weather vanes for the house. Yellin’s work can be found in 45 states, and adorns the Federal Reserve Bank in New York City, Yale University, private homes, significant buildings, and other Gold Coast mansions.
This remarkable mansion offers an intimate look at the life of a privileged family from the Jazz Age through the Second World War. The rooms are as William and Rosamund Vanderbilt left them, filled with priceless art, furnishings and personal possessions. When visitors walk through the Vanderbilt mansion, they enter a “living museum,” an enchanting time capsule of a vanished era.

Flying the COMAC C919 - China's Game Changer?
I just flew on China’s new airplane COMAC C919 from Shanghai to Chengdu with China Eastern Airlines.
It’s been more than 3 years since I last visited mainland China. The flight was a pleasant and modern one for me and many other aviation enthusiasts. Powered by the same CFM leap engines, the C919 shares many similarities with Airbus and Boeing. My flight took almost 3 hours, flying at 34,000 ft with a maximum speed of Mach 0.78.
During the flight, I experienced both C919 Business and Economy class seat features, the lavatory and galley. The middle seat width on C919 is half an inch wider to compensate for the shoulder room like A220. I spoke with the operating crew about their training and operation on the new C919.
At the end of the flight, I gave my verdict as a passenger on the C919. In short, the C919 needs to prove itself in commercial service that it can meet the economics and the required efficiency. Currently, there are over 500 orders by Chinese airlines and leasing companies but the future success depends on foreign certification of this airplane.

The Burr Family Cemetery is in the most unsuspecting place - a Home Depot parking lot. There are eight gravestones, most of which belong to the Burrs. The Burr family arrived in Commack from England in 1656 and purchased 166 acres of land. But it wasn’t until the 1800s when the Burr Family gained national notoriety and social prominence as expert horse breeders.
