In the Hiking Epic Trails series, we find the coolest landmarks on each hiking trail and give them a name. However, some of them already have a name. In order, the landmarks in this video are stairway falls, campsite on rocky beach, rock peninsula, the rocks at midway, halfway working falls, rainbow falls, turtleback falls, and drift falls.

Rainbow Falls is a waterfall in Western North Carolina, located near Brevard. The falls is located on the Horsepasture River. It is on Pisgah National Forest land just outside Gorges State Park.

History
A proposal to route the flow of the river around the falls in the mid 1980s for a hydroelectric power plant was thwarted by public opposition. On October 27, 1986, the Horsepasture River was designated a national Wild and Scenic River, protecting the falls from future development.

Geology
The rock face over which the river flows is not vertical, but the large volume of water during normal river flows cause it to leap many feet out from the rock and a deep plunge pool lies at the bottom of the falls. It creates large amounts of wind and mist that race up the hillside opposite the falls. If the sun is in the right position, a rainbow is easily observed here, giving the falls its name.

You won't believe there's a CHINATOWN here too!!!

Ever since becoming a self-proclaimed Chinatown enthusiast, many people have reached out to me with different resources and information regarding Chinatowns here in California. One of the viewers told me there was an old Chinatown up in Colusa, a small city by Yuba City, so here we go.

Back in the days, Colusa flourished from its proximity to the Southern Pacific Railway, and also due to its proximity to the northern gold mines. The early Chinese folks there were hired as general laborers, and others worked in the usual Chinatown businesses such as wash houses and restaurants.

One of the most significant stories of Colusa's Chinatown was the lynching of Hong Di. Hong Di was a Chinese teenager hired as a house servant for the Billiou family, and he supposedly shot and killed his employer Julie Billiou on April 7, 1887. While we do not know the motive behind the killing, Hong Di was eventually caught and thrown in jail. A group of mobs with guns overran the jail, dragged Hong Di through the streets of Chinatown, and was hanged from the rafters of the locomotive turntable of the Colusa and Lake Railroad.

More info on the history of Colusa's Chinatown:

Days 72-73 of the National Parks Plus USA Road Trip. Adjacent to Sequoia NP is Kings Canyon National Park. A small part of KCNP features giant sequoia trees, including the world's second-biggest tree General Grant. But most of the park is the enormous Kings Canyon. One single road, Highway 180, leads several miles down into the canyon and beside the raging Kings River. This was a day of amazing roads and stunning, cool canyon scenery.

Then we drive to a motel in Merced for the night. On Day 73, I get a haircut at a place in Merced, then we find some small scenic California highways and head into the north part of the state and to Colusa, where temperatures are 100ºF. Even the motel owner advised us to get out of town.
