The ULTIMATE Travel Guide to Melbourne Australia

Melbourne is one of the world's greatest cities and yes, one of its most liveable. It is also one of the world's best travel destinations and it offers the visitor an amazing number of attractions. This video details how to get around the city, where to eat, where to stay, where to get great coffee (many consider Melbourne the greatest coffee city on earth!), what there is to do and see in the city and the best day trips outside of Melbourne.

I hope you enjoy this video and please LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you do. More videos about Melbourne and Australia (and New Zealand) coming soon. Thanks!

I admit to having a bias about Melbourne as I was born here and spent the first 11 years of my life in the City. I visit often and know the city like the back of my hand (although I do admit to having a hard time keeping up with the many changes in Melbourne over the years).

Some of the many attractions discussed in this video include the Queen Victoria Market, Sporting Events (tennis, Formula 1, cricket and the magnificent Aussie Rules Football), the Melbourne Zoo and Sealife, art and architecture and the famous Melbourne parks. The attractions outside of the city include the Great Ocean Road, the Mornington Peninsula, Phillip Island (the Penguin Parade), Puffing Billy and the Healesville Sanctuary.

More about Melbourne:
Melbourne, Australia, stands as a vibrant and captivating destination that seamlessly blends urban sophistication with a relaxed cultural charm. Renowned for its diverse culinary scene, thriving arts and music culture, and stunning architecture, Melbourne offers a rich tapestry of experiences that make it an irresistible city to visit.

One of Melbourne's most distinctive features is its reputation as a food lover's paradise. The city boasts an eclectic array of dining options, ranging from trendy cafes serving up artisanal coffee and breakfast delights to upscale restaurants offering innovative global cuisine. Wander through bustling food markets like Queen Victoria Market, where fresh produce, local delicacies, and international flavors converge. The city's multicultural population is reflected in its dining offerings, ensuring that every palate is catered to.

Melbourne's artistic spirit is palpable, with a thriving arts scene that embraces both traditional and contemporary forms. The iconic National Gallery of Victoria showcases an extensive collection of art spanning centuries and continents, while the street art scene in neighborhoods like Fitzroy and Collingwood transforms the city's walls into open-air galleries. The Melbourne Arts Precinct, anchored by the Arts Centre Melbourne and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, serves as a hub for theatrical performances, concerts, exhibitions, and other cultural events.

Sporting enthusiasts will find Melbourne to be a haven as well. The city is synonymous with major international sporting events, such as the Australian Open, one of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) holds a revered place in the hearts of sports fans and hosts cricket matches, Australian Rules Football games, and concerts. The passion for sports is deeply ingrained in the local culture, making attending a live event an exhilarating experience.

Melbourne's design and architecture contribute to its unique appeal. The city seamlessly integrates historic landmarks with contemporary structures. The Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, showcases stunning 19th-century architecture. On the other hand, Federation Square's bold and modern design has become a meeting point and cultural hub. The city's blend of old and new provides an intriguing visual landscape for exploration.

Beyond its urban offerings, Melbourne serves as a gateway to natural beauty. Just a short drive away, the Great Ocean Road unveils breathtaking coastal vistas and iconic rock formations like the Twelve Apostles. Yarra Valley, renowned for its wineries and lush landscapes, offers a relaxing retreat for wine enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

Aerial view - Historical Images : Victoria Park Abbotsford - Collingwood Football Club : 1st Home

Victoria Park is a sports venue in Abbotsford, a suburb of Melbourne in Victoria, Australia. The stadium is oval shaped and was built to host Australian rules football and cricket matches. In the past Victoria Park featured a cycling track, tennis courts and a baseball club that once played curtain raisers to football matches.

Victoria Park is historically notable as a former Victorian Football League (now Australian Football League) venue between 1892 and 1999 and headquarters of the Collingwood Football Club for 107 years until 2005.

It was also a temporary home ground for the Fitzroy Football Club for the 1985 and 1986 seasons. The ground is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register and is of state heritage significance.

At its peak, from 1959 to the late 1980s, Victoria Park was the third largest of the suburban VFL stadiums after the Melbourne Cricket Ground and Princes Park. However, in the 1990s the AFL's ground consolidation policy forced clubs away from their traditional home grounds and Collingwood played their last AFL game there in 1999. Collingwood continued to use Victoria Park as a training and administration base up until 2005.

The club has since returned to play the majority of home reserves and women's league matches at the venue ... Wikipedia

COLLINGWOOD HERITAGE WALK - Victoria 2020

Collingwood is one of Melbourne's hippest neighborhoods and its blue-collar origins are evident in its workers’ cottages and converted warehouses, which today house offices, galleries, cafes and quirky shops. The area is a hub for Melbourne’s music scene, with venues like the Tote Hotel staging regular punk and indie gigs. Smith Street is packed with lively restaurants and bars, as well as vintage stores.
Come along with us as we explore the historical buildings of Collingwood.
