[EN] Colle di Val d'Elsa is a town situated 15 km southeast of San Gimignano. Its old part, the so-called the Upper Town (because it is situated on a hill), is particularly interesting in terms of history and architecture. You can get to the New Town from there by elevator or by walking the Via Pozzo Tondo. From the highest point of the old town you can see a beautiful panorama of the Tuscan hills with vineyards. The old town itself is something of a medieval village with buildings from different eras and ages. It is very quiet and peaceful - if you visit it you won't regret it.

[IT] Colle di Val d'Elsa è un comune situato a 15 km a sud est di San Gimignano. La sua parte vecchia, la cosiddetta Città Alta (perché situata su una collina), è particolarmente interessante dal punto di vista storico e architettonico. Da lì è possibile raggiungere la Città Nuova con l'ascensore o percorrendo Via Pozzo Tondo. Dal punto più alto del centro storico si può vedere un bellissimo panorama delle colline toscane con vigneti. Il centro storico stesso è qualcosa di un villaggio medievale con edifici di epoche ed epoche diverse. È molto tranquillo e silenzioso - se lo visiti non te ne pentirai.

Górne Miasto, ponieważ położona na wzgórzu, jest szczególnie interesująca pod względem historii i architektury. Do Nowego Miasta można się stamtąd dostać windą lub idąc ulicą Via Pozzo Tondo. Z najwyższego punktu starego miasta widoczna jest piękna panorama toskańskich wzgórz z winnicami. Samo stare miasto jest czymś w rodzaju średniowiecznej wioski zawierającej budowle z różnych epok i wieków. Jest bardzo ciche i spokojne - jeśli je odwiedzisz, nie pożałujesz.

In this walking tour, I will take you to the Upper Town (Colle Alta), which is the most touristy part of the town. I will take you inside the Cathedral and the Santa Maria in Canonica Church. We will also visit a Glass and Crystal exhibition. Everything in this small town is beautiful, the alleys, the houses, the square, the panoramic views. It is really a charming medieval town to visit in Tuscany.

Colle di Val d'Elsa
Colle di Val d'Elsa means Hill of Elsa Valley, where Elsa is the name of the river which crosses it. The area was settled by man from at least the 4th millennium BC, but first mentions of the city are from the 9th century AD. In 1269 it was the seat of a famous battle during the wars of Guelphs and Ghibellines and in 1479 it was besieged by Neapolitan troops. From the 14th century it was a possession of Florence and the Grand Duchy of Tuscany until the unification of Italy in 1860. In the 20th century it became an important industrial center. During World War II it was bombed by Allied aircraft.
