Though it seems to have kicked its reputation as a spring break party spot, Fort Lauderdale continues to have a laid-back atmosphere that attracts tourists year-round, especially snowbirds during the winter months. Filled to the brim with seaside attractions, historical memorabilia, and shopping spots, there’s no shortage of excitement in this coastal community.
If the sea and sand are calling your name, you’ve come to the right place. Fort Lauderdale has 23 miles of picturesque coastline, where you can soak up the sunshine and splash in the Atlantic Ocean. Many tourists and snowbirds make a beeline for “The Strip,” a scenic oceanfront stretch, located near the bars and restaurants on Sunrise Boulevard.
There’s more to this enticing location than just the shoreline, though. To get a sense of the city’s history, venture over to the Riverwalk. One of the most popular Fort Lauderdale attractions, the Riverwalk is where you’ll find the Stranahan House, which is considered one of the oldest buildings in town. Originally built as a trading post in 1901, it was converted into a home for the Stranahans, a pioneer family, five years later. Tour a replica 1899 classroom, and then mosey over to the King Cromartie House just across the street.
While Fort Lauderdale tours belong on the top of your itinerary, there are other must-see attractions just outside of town. Visit Butterfly World in nearby Coconut Creek to gaze at the winged creatures fluttering around the country’s largest butterfly house, and cast a line at the Deerfield Fishing Pier. Birch State Park is a serene spot for wildlife watching, while Mizner Park is home to upscale restaurants, galleries, and shops.

Fort Lauderdale is a city on South Florida's east coast, less than an hour's drive from Miami.
The boutique shops and restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard serve the many wealthy tourists who flock to Fort Lauderdale during the summer. The Riverwalk provides the city's hub for arts and entertainment. History and culture are to be found at King-Cromartie House and the Museum of Discovery and Science.
Cruising and sunbathing are big Fort Lauderdale hobbies, especially on the stretch of ocean front the locals call The Strip.
Fort Lauderdale is home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Birch State Park and the Bonnet Gardens are both enchanting natural showcases. Butterfly World in Coconut Creek has over fifty winged species on display at any time. Birds roam freely at Lake Okeechobee.
Immediately north of Fort Lauderdale's beaches are the picturesque Lighthouse Point and Deerfield Beach Fishing Pier. Mizner Park boasts Spanish-style stucco restaurants, ornamental fountains, and galleries.

Coconut Creek is a city in Broward County, Florida, United States. Situated 37 miles north of Miami, it had a population of 57,833 in 2020. It is part of the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city seceded from Pompano Beach in the 1960s.
It is nicknamed Butterfly Capital of the World because it is home to Butterfly World, the world's largest butterfly aviary, with over 80 species and 20,000 individual butterflies.

Take a ride with me through Holiday Fantasy of Lights Drive Thru located at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek - Broward County, Florida. If you think drive thru Holiday lights attractions are a new concept created in the year of COVID, think again. This is the 26th year of Holiday Fantasy of Lights in what has become a magical South Florida Holiday tradition!
OPEN EVERY NIGHT 6-10PM from 11/20/2020 to 01/02/2021

Ticket price per vehicle is $20.
$40 for vehicles with 12 or more passengers such as buses.

HISTORY
The inaugural Holiday Fantasy of Lights (HFOL) event was in 1993. It was hosted, installed and operated by the Broward County Parks and Recreation Division and located at Tradewinds Park. The experience was a 1.2 mile drive with twenty six displays and tree lighting. The event was well attended and received positive exit interviews along with requests for more lights and larger displays. This launched the County's commitment to hosting one of the best holiday lights shows in the U.S.
The second edition featured a professionally designed and choreographed display program by Brandano Displays, Inc., the nation's leader in the design and engineering of large-scale holiday lights events. Further investment was made in a new power distribution system. The experience was increased to include over 40 displays, computer- driven animation and drive-thru displays throughout the park.
Over 2,000,000 visitors in over 500,000 cars have driven through the Holiday Fantasy of Lights since 1993. This year after 25 years, two hurricanes, one recession and now a global pandemic the Holiday Fantasy of Lights is one of the most popular events of it's kind and a nationwide model for the development of successful holiday light events.
The event is nearly three miles long and features over 65 larger than life displays, multiple animation techniques, 3-D experiences and large scale spectaculars. HFOL is one of South Florida highest rated and visited family holiday entertainment experiences.
