Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: What, How and Why to Visit it (4K)

If you are planning to visit Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region in North East of Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in this wonderful land, with a view on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region whose territory, in just under 8 thousand square kilometers, traces the coordinates of a nerve center of European geography, which has always been a crossroads of destinies and people, capable of rewarding its tourists with the wealth of a territory that surprises from every angle.

In my tour we’ll discover Trieste, Miramare and Duino Castle, Grado, Aquileia, Palmanova, Gorizia, Cividale del Friuli, Udine, Montasio upland, Fusine and Predil Lakes, Venzone, Spilimberto, Valvasone, San Vito al Tagliamento and Sacile.

So, not only breathtaking views but also art pearls such as the elegant and discreet cities of Friuli Venezia Giulia that have traveled the world, listened to different languages, known distant cultures and religions. To understand this, just look at the Audace pier from Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia in Trieste, or walk simultaneously in Italian and Slovenian territory in the Transalpina square of Gorizia. Thus Trieste wore Habsburg clothes, Udine became the city of Tiepolo, Gorizia took the name of Austrian Nice, Pordenone oscillates between Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic influences. forgotten two UNESCO jewels such as Cividale del Friuli and Aquileia. Moreover, history lovers will be able to visit the FVG, discovering the itineraries on the traces of the Great War, whose centenary is remembered.

Moving along the coast, the sea of Friuli Venezia Giulia contains many proposals in one. It is the ideal tourist destination for all families, thanks to the certification of accommodation facilities and to a welcome program created specifically for the needs of children and their parents. At the same time, the FVG summer dances to the exciting rhythms of the glamor Lignano Sabbiadoro, relaxes in the silence and calm of the Grado lagoon, breathing in the maritime cadences of the fishermen of Marano Lagunare.

Experiencing the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the other hand, is an authentic experience of immersion in an unspoiled and protected place, where you can practice all kinds of sports in summer and winter. How not to mention the splendid Friulian Dolomites, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the Julian and Carnic Alps, between which valleys designed by greenery creep. Natural border of the regional territory, the alpine chains guard villages of rare beauty such as, for example, Sauris, Poffabro and Pesaris.

Moreover, the spearhead of Friuli Venezia Giulia has always been the food and wine tradition, because here each dish is made unique by the genuineness of local products.
Territory, cuisine and history mix to give a unique touch.

Cividale del Friuli, Italy ► Video guide, 3 min. | 4K

Cividale del Friuli is situated on the river Natisone, which forms a picturesque ravine here. Formerly an important regional power, it is today a quiet, small town that attracts tourists thanks to its medieval center. From 2011 a part of the historical centre of Cividale (the one belonging to the Lombards era) entered the UNESCO heritage list.

Cividale del Friuli - Italy Walking Tour

Let's walk around Cividale del Friuli, a pictoresque small town in the Province of Udine, part of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of north-eastern Italy.
The town was founded by Julius Caesar in 50BC, and named Forum Julii, from which the whole Friuli region took its name.
It was an important regional power, but today it's a quiet, small town that attracts tourists thanks to it's medieval center.
The most famous feature of Cividale is of course the fifteenth-century bridge crossing the Natisone River, which was named Ponte del Diavolo (Devil's Bridge).

CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI ( Udine )

- Palazzo Comunale, un edificio gotico di mattoni frutto di rimaneggiamenti effettuati tra il 1545 ed il 1588 al preesistente edificio del XIII secolo;
- Palazzo dei Provveditori veneti, costruito tra il 1565 ed il 1605 su un modello di Palladio, ospita il Museo archeologico nazionale di Cividale del Friuli;
- Casa medievale, in Borgo Brossana, risalente al Trecento;
- Varie dimore nobiliari tra cui palazzo de Nordis (sec. XVI); palazzo Paciani (sec. XVI); castello Craigher-Canussio (secc. XIV-XIX) e palazzo Pontotti-Brosadola (sec. XVIII)
- Duomo di Santa Maria Assunta (XV - XVI secolo);

If you are planning to visit Udine, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Udine.

In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Libertà Square, Loggia del Lippomano, Udine Castle, Cathedral of Santa Maria Annunziata, Piazza Giacomo Matteotti, Piazza XX Settembre, Church of San Francesco
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Udine and tips for nearby attractions.

WHAT
Udine is a town with squares of Venetian charm and ancient buildings: from Piazza Libertà, defined as the most beautiful Venetian square on the mainland, to Piazza Matteotti (or Herbal) which, all surrounded by porticos, seems to be an open-air lounge; here you can observe the slideshow of ancient and colourful historical buildings which impart the spirit of Udine.
On the hill of the town rises the castle : from its walls you can see the whole city, the mountains all around it, whereas to the south, less than an hour's drive away, there is the Adriatic Sea.

In the eighteenth century, Udine was the city of Giambattista Tiepolo who reached his artistic maturity here: today, his masterpieces can be admired in the Gallerie del Tiepolo (in the Patriarchal Palace), in the Duomo (Cathedral), and in the Chiesa della Purità. Today, Udine is a city that is open to innovation while tying its image to authentic taverns where one of the most-loved rituals is celebrated namely, the tasting of a goblet of wine (tajut) all in a very human and cordial atmosphere.

Friulian cooking, cultural events and traditional festivals (such as Friuli Doc), make of Udine an inviting place for an unforgettable holiday or weekend break.

HOW
Udine is 1 hour and a half by car from Venice and 1 hour from Udine and Tarvisio (on the border with Austria and Slovenia).
I suggest you to park at the Parking Piazza I Maggio and, from there, to follow this tour.
In the description of this video you’ll find the best tips on where to eat and where to stay overnight.
If you are in Udine, do not miss the opportunity to also visit Cividale del Friuli and Palmanova.

Tourist Attractions in Friuli Venezia Giulia- 5 Best Places to Visit in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy

What to see in Friuli Venezia Giulia: 5 places not to be missed,

Friuli-Venezia Giulia is one of the regions with a special statute occupying the north-eastern part of Italy. It is a territory with a complex history, like all border areas, with different socio-cultural characteristics. The historical-geographical region of Friuli consists in the provinces of Pordenone, Udine and part of the province of Gorizia, while Venezia Giulia includes Trieste and the rest of the province of Gorizia. The division between Friuli and Venezia Giulia dates back to ancient times. They were united only between 1954 and 1975, following a long process.
It is a land that has allowed different populations to meet, where different ethnic and linguistic identities have merged and clashed: Latin, Germanic and Slavic. Even today, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in addition to Italian, many languages are spoken: Friulian, Slovenian, German, Venetian and even Croatian. It is a richly stratified reality: in its bowels runs the blood of the Romans, the Lombards, the Slavs and the Italians of today. This rich past is reflected in its many monuments. We invite you to visit them, along with the many unsurpassed creations of Nature. Enjoy your trip!
