???????? I ATE MANTA RAY in GUAYMAS, SONORA! | Mexico's BEST SEAFOOD? | The Other Side of SAN CARLOS!

???????? GUAYMAS, SONORA - Welcome to Part 16 of my 2022 Mexico Travel series! Last time, we were in the spectacular San Carlos, a beautiful, lesser-known Mexican beach location in the state of Sonora (although becoming increasingly popular with expats in Mexico or those thinking about moving to Mexico).

Guaymas is located just 25-30 minutes from San Carlos on the local bus. You can reach Guaymas from either Hermosillo or Ciudad Obregón with the bus company, Tufesa (around 2 hours either way).

Sonora is the home to seafood (mariscos) in Mexico and is well known for its CAHUAMANTA (a broth-like caldo dish with manta ray). Yes, I ate manta ray! It's definitely an acquired taste! Comida Mexicana (Mexican food) is truly top tier. Is this Mexico's best seafood? There's also some interesting architecture throughout, from the historic centre, downtown and elsewhere. Unfortunately due to knocking myself unconscious that morning (!), I couldn't cover as much ground as I wanted to, but I hope this video gives you at least a brief insight into Guaymas!

Yes there are great beach locations in Mexico - Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and so on, but you have to consider and Guaymas and San Carlos as alternative places to visit in Mexico for a beach vacation!

Our first year of full time travel: 8 countries and one pandemic

Our plan for 2020 was to have the trip of a lifetime; it certainly was but not for reasons we had expected! Our first year of full time travel included 8 countries and one pandemic! In this video, we share the highlights of our one year of travel in 2020, from a night dive with Manta Rays in Hawaii and dog sledding in Canada, to the Acatenango Volcano hike in Guatemala. We were lucky enough to travel through Canada, the US and most of Central America before coronavirus took hold in March 2020. Our new adventure then started with living in Nicaragua, our adopted home and sanctuary for the remainder of 2020.

Riding El Chepe in Mexico’s Copper Canyon Mexico

Riding El Chepe in Mexico’s Copper Canyon Mexico - Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico

In this video, I’d like to introduce you to the Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico, better known as El Chepe, or simply Chepe. It's the only passenger train in all of Mexico, and it's a must for any visit to this part of the country. The Copper Canyon Railway is one of the world's most incredible rail journeys and Mexico's biggest single attraction.

The Ferrocarril Chihuahua al Pacífico, also known as El Chepe from its reporting mark CHP, is a major rail line in northwest Mexico, linking Chihuahua City, to Los Mochis and its port, Topolobampo. It crosses the Sierra Madre Occidental, part of the range called the Rocky Mountains in the United States.

map of Tamaulipas Mexico

Tamaulipas (Spanish pronunciation: [tamawˈlipas] (audio speaker iconlisten)), officially the Free and Sovereign State of Tamaulipas (Spanish: Estado Libre y Soberano de Tamaulipas), is one of the 31 states which, along with Mexico City, comprise the 32 Federal Entities of Mexico. It is divided into 43 municipalities.

Located in northeastern Mexico, it is bordered by the states of Veracruz to the southeast, San Luis Potosí to the southwest, and Nuevo León to the west. To the north, it has a 370 km (230 mi) stretch of the U.S.–Mexico border along the state of Texas, and to the east it is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico.[8] In addition to the capital city, Ciudad Victoria, the state's largest cities include Reynosa, Matamoros, Nuevo Laredo, Tampico, and Mante The Tropic of Cancer crosses the southern part of the municipality of Victoria. The coastal plains along the Gulf have a large presence in the state, whereas inland the landscape is adorned by cactus species and pasture. Predominant fauna in the region include the cougar (Puma concolor), long-tailed weasel (Mustela frenata), ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), American badger (Taxidea taxus), North American beaver (Castor canadensis), plain chachalaca (Ortalis vetula) and quail.

In the western part of the state, the Sierra Madre Oriental displays warm valleys and high sierras with peaks reaching 3,280 m (10,760 ft) in the Pedragoso Sierra; 3,240 m (10,630 ft) in the Borregos Sierra; 3,220 m (10,560 ft) in La Gloria Sierra; 3,180 m (10,430 ft) in Cerro el Nacimiento; and 3,000 m (9,800 ft) above sea level in the Sierra el Pinal. The Sierra de Tamaulipas and the Sierra de San Carlos are isolated mountain ranges in eastern Tamaulipas.

In terms of hydrology, the Bravo, Purificacion, and Guayalejo Rivers flow into the Gulf of Mexico after crossing the state from the western inland. On their way, their basins and zones of influence naturally correspond to the areas destined for agricultural use. The Rio Grande, known to Mexicans as the Río Bravo, represents the northern frontier shared with the United States. One of the tributaries of this natural border, the San Juan River, feeds the Marte R. Gómez Dam. Agricultural and cattle-raising activities are served by 14 other dams across the state, with a total capacity of 7,500 million m3 of water.
