Novigrad is set on a small peninsula on the western coast of Istria, two kilometers north of the mouth of the river Mirna and some 25 km south of the border with Slovenia. At the 2011 census, the town proper had a population of 2,622, while the entire municipality – which also includes four nearby villages – had 4,345 inhabitants. 66% of the population were ethnic Croats while the biggest minority group were Istrian Italians (10%).
There was an ancient city in the broad area of what is now Novigrad, which was called Aemona. In the 5th-6th centuries, Novigrad was called Neapolis (Greek Νεάπολις). From the early Middle Ages and right up until 1828 it was the seat of the Diocese of Novigrad, which has been identified with the Ancient see of Aemona and nominally restored as Latin Catholic titular see under both names. From 1270 it was under the rule of the Venetian Republic, which gave it the Italian name of Cittanova until Venice fell in the late 18th century.”

Cosa fare a Cittanova (Novigrad) - Il Borgo dei Pescatori
Cittanova o Novigrad è conosciuta anche come il Borgo dei Pescatori questo perché un tempo era un piccolo villaggio con molti pescatori che ci vivevano e lavoravano.
Cittanova (Novigrad) ha mantenuto la sua forma Medievale con strade strette e piccole botteghe nelle sue vie.
Qui ci abitano circa 2700 persone, ma in estate è presa d’assalto per la sua bellezza e le sue viettine colorate e piene di fiori profumati.
La passeggiata nella via principale è carina e ci sono moltissimi ristoranti dove mangiare vista porto.

In questi luoghi sorsero poi le ville di molti patrizi romani, primo fra tutti l'Imperatore Tiberio. Transadriatica is the traditional Venetian regatta that connects the two shores of the Adriatic.
Prepare your cameras and mobile phones for phantastic images of numerous sailing boats that are anchored in the sea in front of the city center! Catch them when they leave the port with a spectacular sunset!
For almost 40 years now, at the beginning of Summer sailing boats of the Venetian regatta sail into the port of Novigrad. The regatta participants stay in Novigrad for one day and one night and their hosts have always in plan a number of activities for a memorable gathering.
