It is a pueblo mágico in its own right and is home to some beautiful cathedrals and churches that are definitely worth a visit. With the fast transportation between the two cities, this is definitely a worthy day trip to make from Puebla to get the feel of a charming pueblo mágico in Mexico.

WELCOME to PUEBLA MEXICO - TOP THINGS to SEE and DO! #puebla #travelvlog
Today we are in Puebla, Mexico, a region known for its 10 Pueblos Magicos or magical towns noted for their mystical and mythical character and for maintaining their original architecture, culture, folklore, and history intact.
We are exploring two of the Pueblos Magicos: Cholula ad Atlixco. Cholula is known for the Great Pyramid of Cholula, the largest pyramid by mass in the world! In the background is the volcano Popo aka, Popocatépetl. We also check out the notable churches in the region, including Capilla Real de Naturales famous for its many Moorish-style domes.
Next, we visit Atlixco which is only 45 minutes from Puebla city. We start with the Jardin Magico (Atlixco) which has a Japanese garden and many sculptures made of plants. The town of Atlixco is festive, colorful, and filled with murals. We try the cuisine of the region including the unique flavored icecreams, the tlacoyos, mole, and the Mexican Marinated skirt steak Arrachera. We also visit the famous staircase of the dancers, La Escalera Ancha.
We finish our tour in Puebla city and explore the colorful streets at night, including the most photographed alleyway called: Callejón de los Sapos.

What to do in Cholula Mexico | Cholula Pyramid and Beautiful Churches
The Cholula pyramid is the world's largest pyramid! The base is 4 times larger as the Pyramid of Giza in Egypt. The state of Puebla in Mexico is home to this pyramid and many beautiful churches. The church built on top of the pyramid is the Santuario de la Virgen de los Remedios, but there are other beautiful churches in Cholula (and Puebla) like the Templo de San Francisco de Acatepec and the Parroquia de San Pedro. Unfortunately the ruins were closed during our visit this year in 2021, but we have been before so we included earlier footage of the ruins.

Puebla de los Ángeles (Puebla de Zaragoza) was founded in 1531 in an area called Cuetlaxcoapan, which means where serpents change their skin, in between of two of the main indigenous settlements at the time, Tlaxcala and Cholula. This valley was not populated in the 16th century as in the pre-Hispanic period; this area was primarily used to the flower wars between a number of populations.
