Exploring Culture-Rich Chios in Greece
In this week's episode we're heading to one of the most cultural and history rich islands in Greece, the beautiful island of Chios! We check out the beautiful medieval villages of Pyrgi, Mesta and Olympoi and we check out a lovely secluded bay at Agia Dynami.
This island was such a surprise for us. From the incredible Mastic cultivation and history to the symmetrically patterned buildings, this was our biggest surprise in the country.
There weren't the breathtaking beaches of Kefalonia or the grand old town architecture of Corfu, but Chios had something special and we can't wait to return one day soon!

Chios, Greece - 5 nights travel highlights 2022
I decided to go off the beaten path and visit the North Aegean Greek Island Chios! I stayed 5 nights at Maria Rooms in Agia Ermioni which was a lovely quiet area and perfect base to explore the southern part of the island. I had an amazing time checking out the small villages and beaches and would highly recommend the island as a gateway if you want to relax and/or be more adventurous and explore what the island has the offer.

Greek island of Chios (Hios), the best beaches of Chios Island. Let's travel to Greece and let's go to the beautiful Greek island of Chios (or, Hios, in the Aegean Sea) and let's visit two of the most popular beaches on the island of Chios. First we will visit Agia Fotini beach which is a pebbled beach with a lovely family atmosphere with delicious taverns lining the coast. Then we will visit Mavros Gialos Beach (or Mavra Volia Beach), its name means black beach due to the black pebbles on the shore. Mavros Gialos Beach (or Mavra Volia Beach) is considered the most beautiful beach on the island of Chios in Greece.
Chios island is the fifth largest of the Greek islands, situated in the Aegean Sea, 7 kilometres off the Anatolian coast. The island is separated from Turkey by the Chios Strait.

Chios - The Most Underrated Greek Island | Byzantine Nea Moni Monastery | Ferry from Turkey | Part 1
Welcome to one of the most underrated Greek islands of Chios. Chios, Greece is a beautiful, mountainous island in the Aegean Sea that can be reached by ferry via Çeşme, Turkey. We’ll visit the Nea Moni Monastery which showcases some of the best preserved Byzantine art, view seaside windmills, walk through the walls of the former castle to see Ottoman style architecture and visit an old Turkish bath. In addition, I’ll try some delicious Greek loukoumades and sip an ice cold freddo cappuccino. The MYTHICAL Island of Chios You've Never Heard Of
In the Aegean sea lays a mythical and mysterious island of Chios. Legend has it that Christopher Colombus and Homer are from the island. Also, it is notable for its production of mastic and small beautiful villages that thrive from it. On a day trip from Turkey, I visited parts of the island, including the village of Pyrgi, a volcanic stone beach, and a monastery. Here I provide a brief introduction to the 5th largest island of Greece.

Chios is the capital of the province and has about 25,000 inhabitants. The city is a bustling port and commercial center. In the center of town stands the Byzantine museum with a variety of historical artifacts from the island's past. Modern Chios has been built on the site of the ancient city from which there exist a few survived findings – in particular the walls and the theater. The Castle is quite impressive. Originally built by the Byzantines as a fortress, it was significantly extended by the Genovese in the 14th century.

Mesta is a Greek traditional village on the island of Chios. It belongs to the Mastic Villages, a group of villages in South Chios where the main activity is the manufacture of mastic. The mastic villages have been added to the representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO. Mesta is characterised by particular architecture since it is a village-castle with perfectly preserved medieval architecture. Mesta is located 35 km south west of Chios (town), 4 km away from the coast. It is built at a height of 120m and it belongs to Chios municipality and Mastichochoria municipal unit. It is also a community that comprises the village Limenas where the port of south west Chios is located.

We will visit Mesta village which is a Greek traditional village in the island of Chios. Mesta village belongs to Mastic Villages a group of villages in South Chios where the main activity is the agriculture of mastic. Mesta village is characterised by particular architecture since it is a village-castle with perfectly preserved medieval architecture. The village of Mesta was probably built in the 12th century during Byzantine era. The architecture of Mesta village with the narrow streets and the perimetric fortification served to repel the pirate raids. Mesta village is located 35 km south west of Chios (town), 4 km away from coast.

Castle of Chios, Greek island of Chios - the fort of Chios (the castle of Chios, the citadel of Chios, the fortress of Chios) in Greece. Let's visit the historic Castle of Chios which is a medieval citadel in Chios town on the Greek island of Chios (ΧΙΟΣ). The Castle of Chios (the fort of Chios, the citadel of Chios, the fortress of Chios) is situated adjacent to the main port of Chios and its east side borders with the sea. The Castle of Chios consists of an inhabited area surrounded by a large stone wall structure with various fortifications purposed to defend the enclosed population and properties against naval attack and siege.
The Castle of Chios was constructed in the medieval period with its first construction phase having started in the 10th century by the Byzantines. The structures surviving to this day are part of later construction and expansion dated to the time when the Genoese, who maintained commercial concerns, ruled the island during the 14th to the 16th century.
