Chiang Mai is located in the northwest of Thailand. We highlight the best things to do in & around Chiang Mai:
10. Eat the traditional dish Khao Soi
This creamy yellow curry noodle soup comes with a choice of chicken or beef, and you can find it in nearly any restaurant in the Chiang Mai.
9. Tour the Buddhist Temples of the old town
There are over 300 Buddhist temples in Chiang Mai and many of them are located inside the historic old town, including Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chiang Man, Wat Phan Tao, and Wat Chedi Luang.
8. Visit an elephant sanctuary
We visited Elephant Nature Park near Chiang Mai, a sanctuary that is committed to education and rehabilitation of elephants that have been abused by the tourism industry.

7. Join a cooking class
We joined a half-day cooking class, during which we prepared 3 different dishes; a Thai soup, a curry, and Pad Thai. For each dish, there were different options to choose from for your proteins and flavors.

6. Cruise down the Mae Ping River
The Mae Ping River is the main river running through Chiang Mai and offers a quick escape from the city. You can rent a kayak and cruise down yourself or join a 2 hour boat tour that takes you past beautiful scenery around Chiang Mai.

5. Day tour to Doi Inthanon National Park
Home to Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon National Park is about a 1.5 hour drive from the city. The park is filled with beautiful waterfalls, hiking trails, viewpoints, and twin pagodas near the summit.

4. Shop at the local Talat Warorot
This historic market opened in the early 20th century and is a great place to buy clothes, souvenirs, local food and spices. Open daily from 6am to 7pm.
3. Visit Wat Phra That Doi Suthep
The sacred Doi Suthep temple is about 15 km or 9 miles outside of Chiang Mai. The temple also offers beautiful views of the city and the surrounding area.
2. Drive the Samoeng loop
This 100km or 62 miles route is a pretty easy ride with spectacular views winding through the Mae Sa Valley and the Samoeng Forest. We recommend making a few stops along the way: the Mae Sa waterfalls, botanical gardens, and the Samoeng viewpoint.
1. Chiang Mai Sunday Night Market
The largest market in Chiang Mai is the Sunday Night Market. Starting from the Tha Pae Gate, the market runs along the entire length of the Ratchadamnoen Road from 5pm until around 10.30pm. It’s also possible to visit the Saturday Night Market or the Chang Puak Gate Market on any other day of the week.

Chiang Rai is the northernmost province in Thailand. Filled with lush hills, fine local food, an abundance of temples, and cultural sights, this is one of the country’s most fascinating regions. And although it’s located right next to the well-trodden Chiang Mai, this province doesn’t receive as many tourists. In fact, most people visit Chiang Rai as a day trip from Chiang Mai, but we recommend spending at least a few days here to fully soak in the unique culture. KRABI, THAILAND (2023) | 10 BEST Things To Do In Krabi (Ao Nang & Around)
Krabi is located on southern Thailand’s west coast. Krabi is home to impressive limestone cliffs, dense mangrove forests, white sand beaches, and more than 100 offshore islands.

10. Enjoy the Ao Nang beaches & sunset
Ao Nang Beach is a great place to admire the Andaman sea, take a dip, and watch the sunset.
9. Explore the food & nightlife at Ao Nang
The Soi RCA Entertainment area is the place to go if you’re looking for a late night party.
8. Go For an Island-Hopping Tour
We did a day trip by longtail boat, covering 4 islands. There were multiple stops for swimming and snorkeling and a stop at Railay Beach.

7. Hike the Wat Tham Sua
Sitting right outside of Krabi Town, the Tiger Cave Temple is certainly worth a visit. Most visitors come to climb the 1,260 steps to the top of the hill.
6. Explore Thung Teao Forest Natural Park
There is a short boardwalk trail that takes you to three different pools in the middle of the jungle: Crystal Pool, Emerald Pool, and the Blue Pool.
5. Dip into the Krabi Hot Springs
Cut into smooth rocks, the hot springs flow from deep rooted thermal springs that are located inside volcanic chambers.

4. Krabi Town Weekend Night Market
Krabi Town is the capital of Krabi. And like many other big towns in Thailand, there is a local night market here. Every Friday to Sunday from 4 to 10 PM the market is set up next to the Chao Fah Pier.

Koh Phi Phi are undoubtedly Krabi’s most popular islands to visit. From Ao Nang, you can join a full-day speedboat tour to the islands, which are encircled with sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and spectacular natural scenery.

2. Relax a few days at Koh Lanta

Today we’re taking you around a city that we’ve been to many times before: Chiang Mai. Located in the heart of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a growing city with laid back vibes, temples sprinkled around every corner, and a foodie scene that will make you drool. This is a destination where you come to unwind and that’s exactly what we did during our month long visit. Now let’s get started with this tour of Chiang Mai (清邁) so you can see what this city is all about:
One of the best things you can do in Chiang Mai is ditch the map and get lost inside the old city. It’s along the quiet back lanes that you’ll find cozy cafes, terracotta gardens, unvisited temples, and a little flavour of the old Chiang Mai.
As you’ve probably figured out, we’re not really into nightlife, but Chiang Mai does have lots of bars where you can enjoy a drink or two. We kept things light with a Chang beer.
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We hope this video gave you a little taste of what this city is all about. We’ll be the first to tell you that we barely scratched the surface in terms of everything Chiang Mai (清迈) has to offer, but that being said, the goal of our time here was to relax, eat well, see friends, and catch up on work. Chiang Mai was founded in 1296 and it's the capital of Chiang Mai Province in northern Thailand. The name means New City in Thai. That's because back then it became the new capital of the Lan Na kingdom (an ancient kingdom that existed in the area). The city was also very important historically. It's strategically located on the Ping River (a major tributary of the Chao Phraya River), and close to major trading routes.

CHIANG RAI | THAILAND | PLACES TO VISIT
Many tourist leave out Chiang Rai from their list of places to visit but we would highly recommend visiting Chiang Rai. There are day package trips from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai but if you have time, we would advise spending few days in Chiang Rai instead. And please always carry a bottle of water with you as the sun can get really hot especially in the afternoon.
1. Wat Rong Suea Ten also known as the Blue Temple in Chiang Rai, Thailand is one of the most stunning temple. There is currently still no entrance fee but donations are welcomed. We took a grab taxi but you can hire a tuk tuk too. You would need to negotiate with the Tuk tuk driver. There are places to eat outside the Blue temple. We had lunch at the Bike Coffee place which was pretty reasonable.
2. Grab taxi from Blue Temple to Black house 30mins. Entrance fee of 80bh pp. After that, you can take a short walk to the main road to catch a bus 20bh pp which takes you to the old bus station 1.
3. Wat Phra Kaew, a Royal Temple in Chiang Rai is where the Emerald Buddha was discovered in the year 1434 after lightning struck the chedi where it was kept. No entrance fee
4. Wat Phra Singh, One of Chiang Rai’s oldest temples was built in 1385. A lot less visited by tourist but nonetheless a beautiful temple. No entrance fee. It is within walking distance to Wat Phra Kaew.
Another place we recommend visiting is Phu Chi Fa, outside Chiang Rai for a beautiful sunrise. Link to video.
