RTÉ's news report on the day of the rail incident in which a Dublin - Westport morning service derailed 2 miles west of Knockcroghery, Co. Roscommon.

Exploring the Abandoned Old Red Iron Bridge - Waterford, Ireland ????????
The Old Red Iron Bridge in Waterford City, Ireland was once part of the railway line that crossed the River Suir. Today it lies abandoned. ????
The Old Red Iron Bridge over the River Suir was built in 1906 and was part of the route which linked Cork and Kerry to the Port of Rosslare via Waterford. The railway bridge has 9 spans. The central part could open for shipping however it has been subsequently removed. The removed section is now located a couple of hundred metres downstream on the shoreline.
With a length of 367 metres (1,205 ft), the Old Red Iron bridge was once one of the longest in Ireland. The bridge was used briefly to connect Waterford South Station located near Bilberry to the north side of the River Suir before it closed in 1908 and from there on was used to transport goods to Waterford Stanley and Cherry’s Brewery in Bilberry.
The railway line was originally used as a faster route for mail between the transatlantic port of Cobh and London via Rosslare. It closed in 1967 only to reopen again in 1970 to service the mineral processing plant near Dungarvan. The Waterford to Dungarvan section of the line was used until 1987 when it was closed to the public. The Old Red Iron bridge was abandoned in 1995 and by 2003, the central section and the track was removed to allow easier access of boats further up the river.
Today, the Old Red Iron Bridge remains abandoned and can be visited from the south side of the River Suir near the Waterford Greenway and the River Suir Bridge on the Waterford bypass.

HEUSTON STATION AND THE FLOOZY IN THE JACUZZI
Heuston Station is Dublin's largest railway station. It links the capital with the south, southwest and west of Ireland, The station is named in honour of Sean Heuston , an executed leader of the 1916 Easter Rising, who had worked at the station.
The Mermaid is actually named Anna Livia and is a bronze monument located in croppies acre Memorial Park. It was originally located on O Connell Street. In 2001 the statue was removed from O Connell Street because it did not fit with the planned redevelopment of the area.

Irish Rail's General Motors built 141, 071 & 201 class locos hauling freight and BREL Mark 2, Mark 3 & Mark 3 Push/Pull stock on Dublin Heuston - Waterford - Dublin Heuston passenger services in the Thomastown, Bennettsbridge & Gowran areas of Co. Kilkenny during June of 1996. 2600 class DMUs in the short lived 'Arrow' livery are also featured. The 3,200 horsepower 201s (the most powerful diesel loco to run on the network to date) had only recently been acquired by IÉ from GM in Ontario, Canada and were making their first appearances on the Waterford line.
