MAXIMUM FUNCTION! - Episode 9, 1st April - Waterford to Dublin

Today we come up from Waterford via an explore of Kilkenny, knock out some rather ... functional ... stations of outer Dublin, and end the day by meeting a very familiar voice!

All The Stations - Ireland sees Geoff & Vicki exploring the length and breadth of the Iarnród Éireann and Northern Ireland Railways networks - 198 stations in total. Along the way, they meet the communities connected to the lines, interview local people and those who work on the railways, to find out about their experiences of travelling by train.

Download the new All The Stations Ireland music here:

To The Book! The Railway Adventures is published by September Publishing and was released in October 2018. It accompanies the 2017 'All The Stations' adventure, when we travelled to all 2,563 railway stations in Great Britain. Available here:

Farm work in Australia

Hi everyone!

When I came to Australia and came the time to do my first farm work, I know I had many questions; so I thought to make a video about going through the experience of farm work, answer some questions & give some tips and insights :)

I am currently in the end of my own 6 months of farm work with only under a month to go, so I feel like I do have some information and knowledge to share with those who are just starting.
I hope this video helps you.

Europe 2019 (Pt. 65) - Irish Rail Train - Dublin, Ireland to Belfast, Northern Ireland (UK)

August 12, 2019 - I love European inter-city trains, so much so that I always have to do it at least once every time I visit this continent. Today I am traveling 2h15 north from Dublin, Ireland, to Belfast, Northern Ireland - aka the UK.

It's a gorgeous trip that is very much along the coast of the Irish Sea for the first hour, with a few stops along the way in mid-sized cities like Drogheda and Dundalk. While this trip is normally fully handled by a train, we were forced to exchange onto a bus for the final part of the journey from Newry to Belfast, just after crossing the international border.

It'll be interesting to see how this border is dealt with in the future, if this whole Brexit thing comes to pass on October 31. We shall see. Until then, enjoy the beautiful Irish countryside in both nations that find themselves on the Isle of Ireland!

Dún Laoghaire Carnival. Port town for most cruise ships. =) - Dun Laoghaire Ireland - ECTV

Dún Laoghaire[15] (/dʌn ˈlɪəri/ dun LEER-ee, Irish: [ˌd̪ˠuːn̪ˠ ˈl̪ˠeːɾʲə, - ˈl̪ˠiːɾʲə]) is a suburban coastal town in the traditional county of Dublin in Ireland. It is the county town of Dún Laoghaire–Rathdown, one of the three counties that replaced the old County Dublin in 1994.

The town was built following the 1816 legislation that allowed the building of a major port to serve Dublin. It was known as Dunleary until it was renamed Kingstown in honour of King George IV's 1821 visit, and in 1920 was given its present name, the original Irish form of Dunleary. Over time, the town became a residential location, a seaside resort and the terminus of Ireland's first railway.

The town's name means fort of Laoghaire.[16] This refers to Lóegaire mac Néill (modern spelling: Laoghaire Mac Néill), a 5th century High King of Ireland, who chose the site as a sea base from which to carry out raids on Britain and Gaul. Traces of fortifications from that time have been found on the coast, and some of the stone is kept in the Maritime Museum.

The name is officially spelt Dún Laoghaire in modern Irish orthography; sometimes unofficially Dún Laoire.[17][18] The old anglicised spelling Dunleary is also seen.[17][19] This last is how the town's name is commonly pronounced.[20]

Dún Laoghaire's origins are generally assumed to trace back to a fort that is believed to have stood there and mostly likely to have belonged to Lóegaire mac Néill.[16] A 1686 map of Dublin Bay by Greenvile Collins gives the name as Dun Lerroy. A later map from 1728 shows a small fishing village at the old harbour, marked as Dunlary or in other later maps as Dunleary.[21] The earlier village was around the area where the Purty Kitchen pub is now (sometimes mapped as Old Dunleary). It had a coffee house and a small cove, both of which are shown on a number of old maps, and it may have had a salt mine (Salthill is close by). At that time, the area was a craggy, rocky pastureland spotted with some granite quarries.[22]

On the night of 18–19 November 1807, two troopships, the Prince of Wales, and the Rochdale, which had departed from Dublin, were driven on the rocks between Blackrock and Dún Laoghaire with the loss of over 400 lives. This disaster gave new impetus to an existing campaign for a harbour to be constructed near Dublin. By 1816, the legislation was passed authorising the construction of what is now called the West Pier. The lines of the current town centre including George's Street and most adjoining streets are clearly shown on maps prepared for the development of the harbour, and in particular on a John Rennie plan of 1817, when construction of that town centre had barely commenced at the western end of George's Street. That street may originally have been laid out as a military road connecting the Dún Laoghaire Martello Towers—one at the Peoples Park, the other near the end of the West Pier—both of which have long disappeared. Whatever its origins, the street was clearly an engineer's design, being ruler-straight for all of its length (except the small western part which clearly pre-dates 1816).

When King George IV came to visit the new port under construction in 1821, the name Dunleary was dropped in favour of Kingstown; the town returned to its former name in August 1920, in the lead-up to the creation of the Irish Free State.[23] By the time the Ordnance Survey was completed around 1845, the maps show buildings on much of the street and adjacent streets.
My name is Eric Clark and I am a world traveler. I have been around the world a few times and decided to help fund my travels by sharing my videos and pictures. I have been to almost every country and would be glad to give tips and pointers. Drop me a note. = )

Ashtown Castle Phoenix Park Dublin

Ashtown Castle (Irish: Caisleán Bhaile an Ásaighis) is a tower house in the Phoenix Park in Dublin, Ireland.

It was found hidden within the walls of a much larger and more recent Georgian building, the Under Secretary's Lodge also known as Ashtown Lodge, that was being used by the Papal Nuncio until 1978. At that time, the Lodge was deemed structurally irreparable due to dry rot. However, as the building was being demolished, Ashtown Castle was discovered. It has now been restored and forms part of the Phoenix Park Visitor Centre.

It is thought to originally date from the 1430s[verification needed], as it is built to dimensions that conform with a government policy of the time that offered £10 to those who built a castle for their own safety. The castle was later incorporated into the construction of Ashtown Lodge which was to serve as the official residence of the Under Secretary from 1782.

Dublin city by train scenery | Dublin public transport | Travel republic of Ireland

Connolly station (Irish: Stáisiún Uí Chonghaile) or Dublin Connolly is the busiest railway station in Dublin and Ireland, and is a focal point in the Irish route network. On the North side of the River Liffey, it provides InterCity, Enterprise and commuter services to the north, north-west, south-east and south-west. The North-South Dublin Area Rapid Transit (DART) and Luas light rail services also pass through the station. The station offices are the headquarters of Irish Rail, Iarnród Éireann. Opened in 1844 as Dublin Station, the ornate facade has a distinctive Italianate tower at its centre.
Connolly station opened on 29 November 1844[2] by the Dublin and Drogheda Railway Company as Dublin Station, but was renamed Amiens Street Station ten years later after the street on which it is located. Originally the station served only a single mainline to Drogheda, and in 1853 through services to Belfast commenced. In 1891, the City of Dublin Junction Railway connected the station with Westland Row Station (now Pearse Station) on the city's South side. The City of Dublin Junction had a separate station known as Amiens Street Junction consisting of the present platforms 5, 6, and 7 (currently used by DART, Commuter and Rosslare services) with a separate street entrance. After the amalgamation of the GNR (I) at the end of the 1950s, this station became part of Amiens Street and the separate entrance fell into disuse. The City of Dublin Junction Railway allowed services to run from Amiens Street through to Westland Row to Rosslare and the South East. Services to Sligo were transferred to Westland Row (Pearse Station) running non-stop through the station in 1937, with the closure of Broadstone Station by CIÉ (see also MGWR). Services to Galway and Mayo also terminated at Westland Row, operating through Connolly Station after 1937, running via Mullingar and Athlone. This was discontinued in the 1970s in favour of running services from Heuston Station. Sunday trains to Cork, Limerick and Waterford during the 1960s operated from Connolly platforms 5, 6 and 7 through the Phoenix Park Tunnel, so as to avoid the cost of opening Heuston for the limited Sunday traffic demand at that time.
In 1966, the 50th anniversary of the Easter Rising, the station's name was changed to Connolly Station after Irish revolutionary and socialist James Connolly. At the same time, other main stations were renamed after patriots executed for their roles in the Rising.
At the commencement of DART services in 1984, the City of Dublin Junction Railway entrance was refurbished and reopened for commuters.
During the late 1990s, Connolly Station was completely renovated and partially rebuilt. An entirely new station hall was built, the roof over platforms 1 to 4 was replaced, and a new bar/café and shops were installed. The former DART/Suburban station entrance (City of Dublin Junction Railway entrance) and the secondary station hall built with the DART (further north on Amiens Street) were again closed, but a new entrance on the International Financial Services Centre side was opened. The Luas Red Line began serving the station in 2004. As part of the preparation for this, the ramp that had been a bus terminus was demolished and replaced with a two-platform tram station connected to the main concourse by escalators and lift.

Pearse Station Roof Works 13th and 14th April

Pearse Station will be closed for roof restoration work on Saturday 13th April and Sunday 14th April. For service arrangements details please see:
