You have entered one of the world’s greatest indoor food marketplaces, Chelsea Market. This dazzling mall is a collection of restaurants and shopping mall, occupying an entire block in Chelsea, New York City offering dozens of great places to eat, and many exciting retail outlets.
Attracting 6 million visitors annually, it is one of the most trafficked, and written-about, destinations of any kind in New York City.
Located next to The High Line, which passes through the building's Tenth Avenue side, between 15th and 16th Streets in the Meatpacking District next to Chelsea, in the lower west side of Manhattan.
Chelsea Market opened in 1997 but retained the stripped-down brick architecture of the original building—retaining the unique industrial design and character.
The market’s collection of distinctive and diverse merchants is not just an average food hall, but rather a lively marketplace.

Chelsea is a neighborhood on the West Side of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The district's boundaries are roughly 14th Street to the south, the Hudson River and West Street to the west, and Sixth Avenue to the east, with its northern boundary variously described as near the upper 20s or 34th Street, the next major crosstown street to the north. To the northwest of Chelsea is the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, as well as Hudson Yards; to the northeast are the Garment District and the remainder of Midtown South; to the east are NoMad and the Flatiron District; to the southwest is the Meatpacking District; and to the south and southeast are the West Village and the remainder of Greenwich Village. Chelsea is named after the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England.
Chelsea contains the Chelsea Historic District and its extension, which were designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1970 and 1981 respectively. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and expanded in 1982 to include contiguous blocks containing particularly significant examples of period architecture.
The neighborhood is primarily residential, with a mix of tenements, apartment blocks, city housing projects, townhouses, and renovated rowhouses, but its many retail businesses reflect the ethnic and social diversity of the population. The area has a large LGBTQ population. Chelsea is also known as one of the centers of the city's art world, with over 200 galleries in the neighborhood. As of 2015, due to the area's gentrification, there is a widening income gap between the wealthy living in luxury buildings and the poor living in housing projects, who are, at times, across the street from each other.
Chelsea is a part of Manhattan Community District 4 and Manhattan Community District 5, and its primary ZIP Codes are 10001 and 10011. It is patrolled by the 10th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.

Welcome to the first video tour of our two part series dedicated to the neighborhood called Chelsea, located on the west side of the borough of Manhattan, New York, by New York Habitat ( ) .

Here in Chelsea you'll find yourself in a historical yet impressively progressive neighborhood, which is roughly bordered by 14th street to the south, 30th street to the north, 6th Avenue to the east and the Hudson River and West Street to the west.
The General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church (440 West 21st Street) was founded in 1817. The magnificent green, lush quadrangle is a peaceful place in the bustling city.
In the late 1880's the Hudson River Railroad began using 10th and 11th avenues dividing Chelsea from the waterfront. Soon the neighborhood was covered in slaughterhouses, breweries and tenements for the immigrant labor force to live in.
Something to check out in this area is The Limelight Market Place (47 West 20th Street). This 25,000-square-foot former eighties nightclub, and, before that a church, has been converted into a shopping center.
The 20th Street landmark's lancet windows, labyrinthine layout, and soaring chapel are the same as they ever were but now you'll find specialty clothes, housewares, chocolates and the quintessential Grimaldi's pizza.
If you're an art enthusiast, you'll be delighted to know that Chelsea is considered by many to be the art capital of New York, boasting more than 200 galleries. The 1950's and 60's gave Chelsea a facelift with public housing and urban renewal projects. A few examples are the Robert Miller Gallery (524 West 26th Street), the George Billis Gallery (521 West 26th Street) and the Sonnabend (536 West 22nd Street).
If you'd like to experience Chelsea like a true local, rent a vacation rental or furnished apartment from New York Habitat. There's no better way to experience the city than to live in a real New York apartment.

The Hudson River Park stretches for 5 miles and is packed with fun and unique daytime activities. If you ever wanted to learn to fish, the Park offers the Big City Fishing program for free throughout the summer. The Park also offers kayak trips and sailing, rowing, kayak polo and boat building lessons. Check the Park's Calendar for Outdoor Films, dances, farmer's markets and musical performances along the river.

In this week's episode, I spent a full day in the town of Chelsea (Quebec) where we did some of the best outdoor activities, notably hiking in the Gatineau Park. There, we hiked the Carbide Willson Trail and the Pink Lake trail. We also got some delicious food at Biscotti & cie, as well as some delicious ice cream at La Cigale. We finished of our day with a relaxing night at the Nordik Spa-Nature where we got full body messages in a cabin in the nature. Hope you enjoy and have a great week!

Little Island @ Pier 55 (get off at 10th Ave and W15th Street for both Little Island and Chelsea Markets) almost 2.4 acres of lush greenery on a striking modern artificial stilt-based island on the water. An architectural gem.

The Highline (starts corner of Gansevoort Street and Washington St, ends Hudson Yards), 1.45 miles long elevated rail platform, transformed into a walking path full of tress, plants, modern art and places to enjoy. Nice they kept some of the old train tracks. The view is amazing of Hudson River and of urban inner-city trendy Chelsea

Foodies’ paradise, Chelsea Markets is housed in a beautifully restored cookie (Nabisco... Oreo fame) factory building, now one of NYC best foodie destinations (also has a lot of nice shops). We had an early lunch at Ayada, fantastic authentic Thai food.

Tour of Chelsea Piers | NYC
Chelsea Piers is a series of piers in Chelsea, on the West Side of Manhattan in New York City. Located to the west of the West Side Highway (Eleventh Avenue) and Hudson River Park and to the east of the Hudson River, they were originally a passenger ship terminal in the early 1900s that was used by the RMS Lusitania and was the destination of the RMS Carpathia after rescuing the survivors of the RMS Titanic.
The piers are currently used by the Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex.

Chelsea is a neighborhood on the West Side of the borough of Manhattan in New York City. The district's boundaries are roughly 14th Street to the south, the Hudson River and West Street to the west, and Sixth Avenue to the east, with its northern boundary variously described as near the upper 20s or 34th Street, the next major crosstown street to the north. To the northwest of Chelsea is the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen, as well as Hudson Yards; to the northeast are the Garment District and the remainder of Midtown South; to the east are NoMad and the Flatiron District; to the southwest is the Meatpacking District; and to the south and southeast are the West Village and the remainder of Greenwich Village. Chelsea is named after the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London, England.
Chelsea contains the Chelsea Historic District and its extension, which were designated by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 1970 and 1981 respectively. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1977, and expanded in 1982 to include contiguous blocks containing particularly significant examples of period architecture.
The neighborhood is primarily residential, with a mix of tenements, apartment blocks, city housing projects, townhouses, and renovated rowhouses, but its many retail businesses reflect the ethnic and social diversity of the population. The area has a large LGBTQ population. Chelsea is also known as one of the centers of the city's art world, with over 200 galleries in the neighborhood. As of 2015, due to the area's gentrification, there is a widening income gap between the wealthy living in luxury buildings and the poor living in housing projects, who are, at times, across the street from each other.
Chelsea is a part of Manhattan Community District 4 and Manhattan Community District 5, and its primary ZIP Codes are 10001 and 10011. It is patrolled by the 10th Precinct of the New York City Police Department.
The High Line is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan in New York City. The High Line's design is a collaboration between James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Piet Oudolf. The abandoned spur has been redesigned as a living system drawing from multiple disciplines which include landscape architecture, urban design, and ecology. Since opening in June 2009, the High Line has become an icon of contemporary landscape architecture.
