Afghanistan Travel Guide - Charming Natural Beauty

Afghanistan Travel Guide - Charming Natural Beauty

Afghanistan is a landlocked country between Near East and Indoasia and is at the heart of Asia, traditionally part of the Greater Middle East region, it is bordered by Pakistan to the south and east, Iran to the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to the north. There is a short border with China to the far northeast, but in extremely inaccessible terrain.

Afghanistan has been the centre of many powerful empires for the past 2,000 years. However, in the last 30 years the country has been in chaos due to major wars -- from the Soviet invasion of 1979 to their withdrawal in 1989 and from warlordism to the removal of the Taliban in 2001 and the ensuing American and NATO invasion. Economically, Afghanistan is considered poor compared to many other nations of the world. The country is currently going through a nation-wide rebuilding process.

Temperatures in the central highlands are below freezing for most of the winter, and snow is common at higher elevations. Summertime highs in lower elevations (such as Jalalabad or Mazar-e Sharif) can exceed 50°C/120°F. In higher areas such as Kabul, summer temperatures can be 30°C/90°F and winter around 0°C/30°F. The most pleasant weather in Kabul is during April, May and September.

Mostly rugged mountains; plains in north and southwest. The Hindu Kush mountains run northeast to southwest, dividing the northern provinces from the rest of the country, with the highest peaks found in the northern Wakhan Corridor. South of Kandahar is desert. Kandahar is beautiful in many places.

Cities & destinations of Afghanistan :

Kabul - in the east, the capital city
Balkh - an ancient city in the north, its history still palpable
Bamiyan - The remains of the Buddhas. Once considered one of the wonders of the world, these tall stone carvings were destroyed by the Taliban in a notorious act of cultural vandalism...
Ghazni - in the south-east, between Kabul and Kandahar
Herat - in the west, gateway to Iran, has a strong Persian influence and several interesting historical sites
Jalalabad - in the east, between Kabul and the Khyber Pass
Kandahar - a Taliban-influenced southern city, not safe for travel at this time , Claim as oldest continuously inhabited city in the world , ancient name is mundigak (3000 B.C)
Kunduz - A major city in the northeast, and crossing point to Tajikistan
Mazar-e Sharif - home to the impressively tiled Blue Mosque, and the staging point for trips into Uzbekistan
Puli Khumri - an ancient city in the heart of Afghanistan
Band-e Amir National Park - 5 stunningly turquoise lakes in a remote and beautiful setting, not far from Bamiyan.
The Khyber Pass is the Gateway to Pakistan, an historic route of invasion and trade.
The Minaret of Jam is well off the beaten path but some say worth the journey - possible as a roundtrip from Herat or when traversing the Central Route from Herat to Kabul.
Panjshir Valley - a beautiful trekking area, leading to the famous Anjuman Pass.
The Salang Pass is a high mountain pass and tunnel linking Kabul to the north.
Shamali Plain north of Kabul. Shamali, meaning 'windy' or 'northern,' is a green plain which produced a lot of the food for central Afghanistan. From Kabul it extends north through Charikar, Parwan province to Jabal os Saraj. The Taliban destroyed the irrigation systems and it is only just beginning to recover.

Travel in Afghanistan । Top 10 Afgan Tourist Destinations

1
Band-i-Amir
The spectacular colors are almost indescribable. These high-mountain mineral lakes are fed by natural underwater springs. Dramatic red cliffs drop in stark contrast to the blues of the water. The surrounding moonscape-like terrain adds to the bizarre view, making this an otherworldly experience that is tops in terms on natural beauty. Pictures only begin to show the beauty of the place, since, like so many other dramatic locations, it's really the 360 degree experience that really captures the beauty of the place.

2
Zebok valley
Zebok valley, Badakhshan Province. This high-mountain valley is fed by dozens of natural springs that pop up along the green valley floor. A near-perfect lawn spreads throughout the valley in what would appear to be a natural golf-course green. crystal-clear streams converge along the valley to form the gushing Kokcha River that cuts its way out the lower gorge toward the rest of Badakhshan Province.

3
Friday Mosque in Herat
Friday Mosque in Herat, Afghanistan. Built in the 11th century, and beautified continually ever since, this architectural jewel has a strong 15th century Timurid imprint. The formal gardens in the front are reminscent of the Mogul gardens of later-day India. The marble floor stretching the full length of the giant courtyard is a graceful contrast to the intricate tile patterns of the surrounding walls and archways.

4
Shrine of Ali in Mazar-i-Sharif
The Rauza Mosque or Shrine of Ali in Mazar-i-Sharif, Afghanistan. The spectacular square at the center of Mazar-i-Shari houses this small, but charming shrine that has been the center of Folk Islamic devotion in Afghanistan for centuries. Legend has it that Ali's body was brought here after his death, and is revered by Afghans as the holiest site in their country.

5
Buddha niches, Bamiyan
Buddha niches, Bamiyan, Afghanistan. The two ancient buddhas carved into the mountain cliffs above Bamiyan in the 5th century were destroyed by the Taliban in the summer of 2001, in one of the great crimes against global culture. Still remaining are the gigantic niches that housed these, the largest buddhas ever made anywhere in the world. Also left behind is an intricate cave network that formed a series of buddhist monasteries. Nearby sit the ancient cities of Zohak and Gholghola, destroyed by Genghis Khan, but still full of interesting ruins.
6
The Wakhan Corridor
The Wakhan Corridor, Afghanistan. A trek to the Small Pamir mountains at the far end of the Wakhan is one of the most exciting and exotic routes a traveler can take in this modern world. It takes 5 days to drive from Kabul to the trail head. From there, a minimum of 8-12 days is required to walk to the base of the Small Pamir mountains, along an awesome trail. You ride horses and yaks past camps of nomadic Kyrgyz, and might see wild Siberian Ibex, Marco Polo sheep, or even the elusive Snow Leopard.

7
Panjshir Valley
Panjshir Valley, Afghanistan. This rugged valley 2 hours north of Kabul was home to some of the most active anti-Russian warriors including Ahmed Shah Massoud, and resisted Taliban rule during the late 1990s. Its narrow mouth and high mountains make the valley easily defended, and also make for dramatic scenery. The Panjshir River rushes with white water the whole length of the valley, and snow-capped mountains surround the long, narrow valley.

8
The Minaret of Jam
The Minaret of Jam Remote and forgotten, this is the second highest minaret in the world. What makes it most incredible is its location at the convergence of two narrow gorges. The rugged, dry mountains seem completely inhospitable, but this location used to house the capital of the great Ghorid empire. The only evidence of this amazing city is the 1000 year old 65 meter high minaret, and the Jewish cemetery nearby.

9
Takht-e-Rustam
The Ancient Buddhist ruins of Takht-e-Rustam in Samangan, and Surkh Kotal near Pul-i-Khumri., Afghanistan. A huge stone stuppa carved out of the top of a hill graces the mountain above Samangan. This perfectly cylindrical stuppa dates from the Buddhist period of Afghanistan during the first few centuries of this era. A stone temple carved from the same giant stone as the stuppa sits at the top of the stuppa.

10
TV Mountain
TV Mountain, Kabul, Afghanistan. Kabul is not usually described as beautiful. Interesting, yes. Bustling, most definitely. But not beautiful. However, the view from the top of TV mountain, which sits at the heart of Kabul is breathtaking and....beautiful. No other city in the world has a mountain quite so high at the very center of the city. You can watch planes fly below you as they approach the airport, and can see every major landmark in this city of 4 million people. It is a must-see if you visit Kabul.

#mrtaster #dubai #afghan
My dear friend Mino Amin, a famous Korean YouTuber, and I will reported on delicious Afghani dishes at the Creek City restaurant in Dubai. Back when I was in Iran, I had tried Afghan food at the home of a dear Afghan friend, it is very tasty and varied. But I had never been to an Afghan restaurant. Creek City Dubai restaurant has different dishes such as Afghani, Pakistani, Thai and Chinese food, tonight we focused on Afghan food, dishes such as Kabuli pilaf, Chopani kebab, charcoal, rice with lamb and chapli kebab.

Mino and I went to the kitchen of the Creek City restaurant, they were making a special rice called Kabuli rice. It was rice, with carrots, raisins, cashew nuts inside, and is cooked with fresh mutton and pistachio slices. They have another dish that is mutton cooked with potatoes, garlic and tomato paste for several hours. We also saw the process of preparing Afghani kebab, they call it Afghani kanjeh kebab, which had special herbs inside the meat, unlike Iranian kebabs, which do not have herbs in them. It was a unique combination. They also bake freshly spiced bread, Iranian barbari and Afghan barbari, the difference is that Afghan barbari is kneaded with fingers and is then put into the oven.
The saffron charcoal grilled chicken is actually chicken thigh that is put in a net and on the charcoal grill. We also had a tray of special Afghani kebab mix, along with special Afghani lamb, which is a special dish of this restaurant. The kabuli polo which is called Ghaboli polo in Persian, is made with pistachios, raisins, carrots, and cashews, and the meat is very tender and delicious. The next dish we tasted was the special lamb, which was lamb meat, fat, potatoes and garlic with Barbari bread, and I must say that both me and Mino liked it very much. Chapli Kebab is similar to Iranian Shami kebab. Minced meat with onions and fried eggs under the kebab. It was unique.
After trying the detailed Afghan dishes, it was time to taste Afghan green tea, which was served to us with mint and sugar, and we ate dates along with it. We also tried the knafeh dessert, along with nectar and it was absolutely delicious.
