Santhebennur Pushkarani | Channagiri | Davanagere best place to travel 2022

Pushkarni in Santhebennur. Santhebennur is famous for a pond called Pushkarani, locally called Honda. Apart from the structure in the center, four more can be seen on the surrounding steps and there are two more - one each on the left & right. The Pushkarani itself is in front of a gallery kind of structure, open towards the Pushkarani, and without any rooms. These structures are built with a mix of stone, bricks & mortar . The region was a part of vijayanagara empire ,and Kenga Hanumantappa Nayaka ,a local palegar ,built a Rama Temple and a Pushkarni here in 16th century ,now even after five centuries ,the structure remains intact . The pushkarni with majestic mantapa at the center consider as one of the mangificent structures of south India...And also said that it has a water storage facility as its base. The mantapa is built in such a way that ,for an onlooker on the banks of pushkarni ,it just appear to be floating on water is the speciality of this place. This place is just a love with its view and green filled here will bring you a inner peace and positiveness and also a beautiful weekend spot for friends ,phootoshoots will go ultimate here..... etc, we captured a magical view of this Pushkarni or Honda in santhebennuru just 36 Kms from district 20kms taluk .. and 55kms from fort city Chitradurga.

SULEKERE (Shanthi Sagara) Channagiri Taluk
Shanthi Sagara lake, also called Sulekere is Asia’s second largest irrigation tank. It is located in Channagiri taluk Davanagere district, Karnataka, India. Shanti Sagara lake, created by an embankment with sluice outlets, built in 1128, the lake has a history of 800 years. It took three years to construct the massive lake. The lake, which has a water spread of 6,550 acres (2,651 ha), has a circumference of 30 km (19 mi). It irrigates 4,700 acres (1,900 ha) of land and more than 50 villages are benefited by it.
The construction of the tank dates back to 11th or 12th century, and remains are pointed out.
To the north of the embankment of the Sulekere tank is a small hillock on which is situated the temple of Siddeshwara which is approached through a stone gateway supported on either side by a two-handed dvarapala, having a mace in one of his hands.
The temple has many distinct characteristic craftsmanship like the pillars, the stepped tower, etc., which preserve the Hoysala Empire tradition on granite. But the style is not of Hoysala Empire. An inscription placed near the main doorway bears the date S 1468 or 1546 A.D. On the deepastambha is the standing image of a devotee having the look of a Vijayanagara Empire period image. It may well be surmised that the temple belongs to the early Vijayanagar Empire period when perhaps the Hoysala Empire tradition was yet lingering.
To the south-west of the main temple is the shrine of the goddess Durga having a garbhagriha and a porch of rude Dravidian pillars. The doorway is an imitation of Hoysala Empire type.
On the bund of the Sulekere, around 10,000 assemble for the Siddesvara rathothsava, held for 3 days in February. A large festival is held at the temple at the time of Maha Shivaratri.

Chennagiri Hills near Nandi Hills || Places within 100km from Bangalore in 2021
This place is situated right behind the famous Nandi Hills, roads are fantastic. You will get to see lush greenery before reaching to the starting point of this trek.
There is a Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva right next to this temple, one can park their vehicles enough space is there for 2 as well as 4 wheeler. From the parking spot it takes 5 mins walk on the main road and towards right side there is the starting point for this trek.
Be mindful while trekking there are markings all over the place to help you reach to the top some marks are on the rocks which you can see in this video as well. Just follow this marks or else there is a good chance one can easily lost in the trail. The trail is not the toughest one but not the easy one though.

CHANNAGIRI FORT rulled by Rani Keladi Chennamma of Keladi dynasty kingdom
It is said that the hill was fortified by Rani Chennamma of Keladi (1672–1697), queen of the Keladi Nayaka Kingdom, and the town was named after her.
Channagiri has a hill fort of about 1770 A.D. with a Ranganatha temple inside it, which rises to a height of about 200 feet to the west of the town consists of a single soft dark covered with earth which commands a wide plain. The fort consists of two rubble walls defending by moats, the chief gate being on the north where the gradient is lowest.
On the peak stands a temple dedicated to Sri Ranganatha. It is called Bete-Ranganatha and depicts Vishnu standing in samabhanga holding chakra and sankha in his backhands and arrow in his front hands with a low Garuda pedestal below him and a consort in relievo on the prabhavali on each side.
To its south-west is a small shrine dedicated to Bhutappa which contains the head of the god whose tongue projects out of his mouth.
