चंदौली जिला उत्तर प्रदेश में वाराणसी से लगभग 50 किमी की दूरी पर स्थित है। इसका नाम बारहौलिया राजपूत चन्द्र शाह के नाम पर पड़ा, जिनका ताल्लुक नरोत्तम राय के परिवार से है जिन्होंने इस शहर की खोज की थी। उनके वंशजों नें बाद में एक किले का निर्माण कराया था। खंडहर होने के बावजूद भी यह किला काफी अधिक संख्या में पर्यटकों को आकर्षित करता है।
चंदौली को स्वतंत्रता सेनानी और भारत के पूर्व प्रधानमंत्री लाल बहादुर शास्त्री के जन्म स्थली होने का गौरव प्राप्त है. चंदौली जिले में मुगलसराय स्थित पंडित दीनदयाल उपाध्याय जंक्शन रेलवे स्टेशन (मुगलसराय जंक्शन) एशिया की सबसे बड़ा रेलवे मार्शलिंग यार्ड है. चंदौली अपने प्राकृतिक सुंदरता, चंद्रप्रभा अभयारण्य तथा कई खूबसूरत झरनों के लिए प्रसिद्ध है.

चंदौली भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश का एक शहर और एक नगर पंचायत है। यह चंदौली जिले का प्रशासनिक मुख्यालय है। प्रशासनिक उद्देश्य से चन्दौली जनपद का निर्माण वाराणसी जनपद से अलग करके वर्ष 1997 में हुआ। यह जनपद पवित्र गंगा नदी के पूर्वी और दक्षिणी दिशा की ओर स्थित है। इस ज़िले नाम अपने तहसील मुख्यालय के नाम पर रखा गया है। यह पूरा जिला प्राचीन काशी राज्य के अधिकार में था
इसके अलावा कई इस जिले के साथ जुड़े किंवदंतियों से, प्राचीन काल की कीमती सबूत यहां पाया गया है और ईंट के अवशेष बिखरे टीले सभी जिले में फैले हुए हए अधिकांश भाग के लिए जिले के इतिहास अज्ञात है। वहाँ कुछ सुनसान साइटों रहे हैं, टैंकों और कुंड जिले के तहसील में देखा और वे अस्पष्ट किंवदंतियों ले. एक जिले के प्राचीन स्थल की, के बारे में 21 किमी बलुवा स्थित है।

चंद्रप्रभा वन्यजीव विहार चंदौली जिले का एक मुख्य पर्यटन स्थल है। यह एक वन्यजीव अभ्यारण है। यहां पर आपको बहुत सारे जंगली जानवर देखने के लिए मिलते हैं। यहां पर जंगल का सुंदर दृश्य, झरने और नदी देखने के लिए मिलती है। यहां आकर बहुत अच्छा लगता है। चंद्रप्रभा वन्य जीव अभ्यारण का नाम इस अभ्यारण के बीच से बहने वाली नदी चंद्रप्रभा के नाम पर रखा गया है। यह अभ्यारण चंदौली से करीब 40 किलोमीटर दूर है और वाराणसी से करीब 70 किलोमीटर दूर है। यहां पर आप अपनी गाड़ी से घूमने के लिए आ सकते हैं। इस अभ्यारण में आपको बहुत सारे जंगली जानवर देखने के लिए मिल जाते हैं। यहां पर आपको काला हिरण, चीतल, सांभर, नीलगाय, जंगली सूअर, चिंकारा, भारतीय अजगर और भी बहुत सारे जंगली जानवर देखने के लिए मिल जाते हैं। यहां पर आपको बहुत सारी चिड़िया की प्रजाति भी देखने के लिए मिलती है।

देवदरी जलप्रपात चंदौली शहर का एक मुख्य पर्यटन स्थल है। यह जलप्रपात चंद्रप्रभा वन्यजीव अभ्यारण के अंदर स्थित है। यह जलप्रपात चंद्रप्रभा नदी पर बना हुआ है। यह जलप्रपात बहुत सुंदर है। यहां पर बहुत ऊंची चट्टानों से जलप्रपात एक कुंड में गिरता है। यहां पर आकर बहुत अच्छा लगता है। बहुत सारे लोग यहां पर बरसात के समय घूमने के लिए आते हैं। जलप्रपात के पास ही में वॉच टावर बना हुआ है, जहां से आप जलप्रपात का सुंदर दृश्य देख सकते हैं। जलप्रपात में जाने के लिए एंट्री टिकट लेना पड़ता है और पार्किंग में गाड़ी खड़ी करने के लिए भी शुल्क लगता है। यहां पर आकर बहुत अच्छा लगता है और यहां पर आकर आप अपना बहुत अच्छा समय बिता सकते हैं। यह चंदौली की सबसे अच्छी जगह है।

मिर्जापुर भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश में एक शहर है, दिल्ली और कोलकाता दोनों से लगभग 650 किमी, इलाहाबाद से लगभग 87 किलोमीटर और वाराणसी से 67 किलोमीटर दूर है। इसकी 2,496,970 की आबादी है, जिसमें से पुरुष और महिला क्रमशः 1,312,302 और 1,184,668 थीं (माध्यम-जनगणना2011)। यह अपने कालीनों और ब्रासवेयर उद्योगों के लिए जाना जाता है।
मिर्जापुर जिले का इतिहास चुनार किले से हैं।
इस किले का निर्माण सोलहवीं शताब्दी में उज्जैन के राजा विक्रमादित्य ने अपने भाई राजा भरथरी के लिए करवाया था। मिथक यह बताते हैं कि राजा भरथरी ने इस किले में महासमाधि ली थी। इसके बाद मुगलकाल के दौरान, भारत में मुग़ल वंश का स्थापक बाबर यहाँ आया।
1735 ईसवी में लार्ड मर्क्यूरियस वेलेस्ले नाम के एक अँगरेज़ अफसर ने इस क्षेत्र की स्थापना मिर्ज़ापुर नाम से की।

वाराणसी : इतिहास से भी पुरातन
वाराणसी भारत के उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य का प्रसिद्ध नगर है। इसे 'बनारस' और 'काशी' भी कहते हैं। इसे हिन्दू धर्म में सर्वाधिक पवित्र नगरों में से एक माना जाता है और इसे अविमुक्त क्षेत्र कहा जाता है। इसके अलावा बौद्ध एवं जैन धर्म में भी इसे पवित्र माना जाता है। यह संसार के प्राचीनतम बसे शहरों में से एक और भारत का प्राचीनतम बसा शहर है|प्रसिद्ध अमरीकी लेखक मार्क ट्वेन लिखते हैं: बनारस इतिहास से भी पुरातन है, परंपराओं से पुराना है, किंवदंतियों (लीजेन्ड्स) से भी प्राचीन है और जब इन सबको एकत्र कर दें, तो उस संग्रह से भी दोगुना प्राचीन है।
वाराणसी नाम का उद्गम संभवतः यहां की दो स्थानीय नदियों वरुणा नदी एवं असि नदी के नाम से मिलकर बना है। ये नदियाँ गंगा नदी में क्रमशः उत्तर एवं दक्षिण से आकर मिलती हैं। नाम का एक अन्य विचार वरुणा नदी के नाम से ही आता है जिसे संभवतः प्राचीन काल में वरणासि ही कहा जाता होगा और इसी से शहर को नाम मिला। इसके समर्थन में शायद कुछ आरंभिक पाठ उपलब्ध हों, किन्तु इस दूसरे विचार को इतिहासवेत्ता सही नहीं मानते हैं
