Teatro Colon
The Teatro Colón is the main opera house in Buenos Aires and is considered one of the ten best opera houses in the world. Acoustically, it is considered to be amongst the five best concert venues in the world.
Jardin Japones
The Buenos Aires Japanese Gardens are a public space made by the non-profit Japanese Argentine Cultural Foundation and is one of the largest Japanese gardens in the world outside Japan.
Planetario Galileo Galilei
This famous planetarium resembles a UFO and was built in the 1960s to celebrate the stars and planets in outer-space. The planetarium is full of projections and interactive exhibits that are fun for the entire family.
Recoleta Cemetery

Buenos Aires (the official name 'is Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires/Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, also called Capital Federal/Federal Capital) is the capital of the Argentine Republic. Its center is the Plaza de Mayo, lined with stately 19th-century buildings including Casa Rosada, the iconic, balconied presidential palace. Other major attractions include Teatro Colón, a grand 1908 opera house with nearly 2,500 seats, and the modern MALBA museum, displaying Latin American art. nhabitants of Buenos Aires are called porteños, people from the port, implying that many of the inhabitants are immigrants in some ways or another. Buenos Aires is a singular, open, and integrating destination that allows the visitor not only to view the city but also to have an exceptional urban adventure.
Buenos Aires, like most of the Argentinian pampas, has a humid subtropical climate with a significant influence from the Atlantic Ocean. However, the city has unpredictable weather year-round. Summers last from December to February and are hot as the average high is exactly 30°C (86°F) and heat waves can affect the city leading to above 35°C (95°F) and, rarely, above 38°C (100°F).

Argentina has a renowned football reputation and the sport is very popular throughout the whole country. Buenos Aires and the surrounding suburbs are home to more than 15 Primera league teams, the two most internationally known being Boca Juniors (which resides in La Boca) and River Plate (which formerly resided in La Boca, but now resides in Belgrano). A game between these two legendary teams is called the Superclásico. Other popular teams that draw big crowds are San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club, just to name a few. When any of these big five clubs (Boca Juniors, River Plate, San Lorenzo, Independiente and Racing Club) teams play against one another, it is a clasico or derby match.
A trip to Buenos Aires is not complete without some sort of experience of the Tango, the national dance of Argentina. A good place to go and watch some authentic Tango is at the Confiteria Idéal Suipacha 384 (just off of Corrientes, near Calle Florida. However, Tango is best experienced not in La Boca and on Calle Florida, but in the Milongas. A milonga is both a place where a Tango dance will take place, as well as a specific type of tango dance.

01. La Recoleta Cemetery
A cemetery located in the Recoleta neighbourhood. In 2011, the BBC hailed it as one of the world's best cemeteries. In 2013, CNN listed it among the 10 most beautiful cemeteries in the world. Set in 5.5 ha. Contains 4691 vaults. 94 declared National Historical Monuments.
02. La Boca
A popular destination: with colourful houses and pedestrian street, the Caminito, where tango artists perform. Retains European flavour, with many of its early settlers being from Genoa. Best known for being the home of world renowned football club Boca Juniors.
03. Plaza de Mayo
The main square in the Monserrat barrio. Since being the scene of the 25 May 1810 revolution that led to independence, the plaza has been a hub of political life in Argentina. Flanked by Hipólito Yrigoyen, Balcarce, Rivadavia and Bolívar streets.
04. Parque Tres de Febrero
Also known as the Bosques de Palermo (Palermo Woods), is an urban park of approximately 400 ha. Known for its groves, lakes, and rose gardens (El Rosedal). Named in honor of February 3, 1852, the date of the defeat of Governor Rosas.
05. Buenos Aires Zoo
An 45-acre (18 ha) zoo in the Palermo district. Contains 89 species of mammals, 49 species of reptiles and 175 species of birds, with a total of over 2,500 different animals. The park was opened on November 11, 1875, and included a small section dedicated for animals.
06. Galileo Galilei
A planetarium located in Parque Tres de Febrero. Has five floors, six staircases and a 20 metres diameter room with 360 seats. Has a piece of lunar rock which was brought back to Earth by the Apollo XI. Home to a collection of 100 million year old sea life and amonite fossils.
07. Buenos Aires Botanical Garden
A botanical garden located in the Palermo neighborhood. Has a total area of 6.9772 ha (0.026939 sq mi; 17.241 acres), and holds approx 5,500 species of plants, trees and shrubs, as well as a number of sculptures, monuments and five greenhouses.
08. Floralis Genérica
A sculpture made of steel and aluminum. A gift to the city by the Argentine architect Eduardo Catalano. Was designed to move, closing its petals in the evening and opening them in the morning, although this mechanism is currently disabled.
09. Tierra Santa
A religious theme park. Claims to be the world's first religious theme park. Is a large reproduction where visitors can walk the streets of Biblical Jerusalem, living step by step scenes from the life of Jesus as described in the Bible.
10. Torre Monumental
A clock tower located in the barrio of Retiro. Was a gift from the local British community in commemoration of the centennial of the May Revolution. Reaches a height of 75.5 m and has eight floors. There are clocks at the 35m.

▶ Caminito: Caminito (“little walkway”) is a street museum and a traditional alley located in La Boca, one of the first districts founded in Buenos Aires. It is an area with stone streets where the houses preserve their original colors and style.
▶ Boca Juniors Stadium: The Second place that I recommend you to visit on day 1 is the Boca Juniors Stadium. Widely known as “La Bombonera”, it is one of the most emblematic stadiums of the world.
▶ Recoleta Cemetery: It is one of the main tourist attractions. It is an extraordinary sample of the funeral design of the 19th and early 20 centuries, with family pantheons and vaults of the bourgeoisie. Here you can find the remains of several protagonists of Argentine history.
▶ France Square: France Square (in Spanish: “Plaza Francia”) is a public square in the barrio of Recoleta. It was created in1909, as part of the changes introduced in the urban landscape on the occasion of the Argentina Centennial.
▶ MALBA (Latin America Art Museum of Buenos Aires): The museum was inaugurated in 2001 and it receives over a million visitors annually. It maintains a cultural center, which organizes art and film exhibitions and develops cultural activities. This involves educating the public about Latin American artists, and the diversity of cultural and artistic holdings in this region.
▶ San Telmo: San Telmo is the oldest neighborhood of Buenos Aires. It is a well-preserved area of the Argentine metropolis and is characterized by its colonial buildings. Cafes, tango parlors and antique shops line the cobblestone streets, which are often filled with artists and dancers.
▶ “El Viejo Almacén”: “El Viejo Almacén” (“The Old Warehouse”) is a restaurant that offers international dishes, with an extensive selection of wines and an excellent tango show. This old place was built in 1769 and, in 1969 it became one of the most important tango places in the city.
▶ Puerto Madero: Puerto Madero is a district occupying a significant portion of the Río de la Plata riverbank and representing the latest architectural trends in the city of Buenos Aires. It is one of the most luxurious and safe areas in Buenos Aires.
▶ “Corrientes” Avenue: It is one of the principal thoroughfares of Buenos Aires. It is known as the street that never sleeps because of its nightlife, and this is mainly due to the fact that around the Obelisk, it has the largest concentration of bookstores, theaters, pizzerias and bars in Buenos Aires.
▶ Palermo: Palermo is a neighborhood located at the northern edge of the city, and it is the largest district of the city. It is divided into many areas (Palermo Viejo, Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Soho, Palermo Chico, and others).
▶ “Don Julio”: Don Julio is a steakhouse located in Palermo neighborhood. For twenty years it has been positioned among the best grill restaurants in the world,and it is considered the best grill in Argentina.
▶ Frank’s Bar: This bar honors the times of the Prohibition of alcohol, The Dry Law. To enter you need a password, which changes every week, and clues are provided by social networks. The atmosphere is luxurious and elegant.

Situated on the Beagle Strait, Ushuaia is the largest city in Argentine Tierra del Fuego, and arguably the southernmost city in the world. In the past, the town has been a missionary base, penal colony and naval base for the Argentine navy. Ushuaia is now a major tourist town, complete with casinos and nice restaurants, and commonly used as a base for hiking, winter sports and cruises to Antarctica.
Ushuaia lies on the Andes foothills (which run West-East at this latitude) and the Beagle Channel coast. Its sole road connection is Ruta 3 which traverses the city west-east and later drifts north-east and crosses the Andes.
Consequently, Ushuaia's tourist attractions are either to the west (End of the World Train & National Park), to the east (Fagnano Lake, Haberton ranch and lots of hiking trails) or within the city (Presidio Museum, boat trips, Martial Glacier).
Climate-wise, Ushuaia is warmer than many assume; although (arguably) the southernmost city in the world, it is no further south than Belfast is north, and temperatures rarely drop below -10°C. However, summers tend not to climb much above +12°C and, as in all of Patagonia, strong winds add a significant wind chill factor.
There are city buses within Ushuaia, but they only reach few of the tourist attractions. They are good to get to Playa Larga, for example, or from one part of the center to another, along the east / west axis. Hotels in Ushuaia are often booked, especially during peak tourist season, thus it is advisable to arrive in Ushuaia with reservations. Hostels are equally crowded during peak season, and you may have some trouble finding accommodation should you arrive without a reservation.
Tourist attractions include the Tierra del Fuego National Park and Lapataia Bay. The park can be reached by highway, or via the End of the World Train (Tren del Fin del Mundo) from Ushuaia. The city has a museum of Yámana, English, and Argentine settlement, including its years as a prison colony. Wildlife attractions include local birds, penguins, seals, and orcas, many of these species colonizing islands in the Beagle Channel. There are daily bus and boat tours to Harberton, the Bridges family compound, Estancia Harberton. Tours also visit the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse. Les Eclaireurs is sometimes confused with the Lighthouse at the End of the World (Faro del fin del mundo) made famous by Jules Verne in the novel of the same name; but the latter lies some 200 mi (320 km) east of Ushuaia on Isla de los Estados (Island of the States).

San Carlos de Bariloche is a city in the province of Río Negro, Argentina, situated on the foothills of the Andes, surrounded by lakes (Nahuel Huapi, Gutiérrez Lake, Moreno Lake and Mascardi Lake) and mountains (Tronador, Cerro Catedral, Cerro López). It is famous for skiing but also great for sight-seeing, water sports, trekking and climbing. Another claim to fame is its Swiss-like atmosphere and its chocolate boutiques and breweries. Look for the St. Bernard dogs on display for tourists.
San Carlos de Bariloche is located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park. After development of extensive public works and Alpine-styled architecture, the city emerged in the 1930s and 1940s as a major tourism centre with skiing, trekking and mountaineering facilities. In addition, it has numerous restaurants, cafés, and chocolate shops.
Tourism, both domestic and international, is the main economic activity of Bariloche throughout the year. The city is very popular with Brazilians and Europeans. One of the most popular activities is skiing, and most tourists visit Bariloche in winter (June–September). Regular flights from Buenos Aires via LAN airlines and Aerolíneas Argentinas serve the city year round. The main ski slopes are the ones at Cerro Catedral, the biggest ski resort in South America and in the southern hemisphere. During the summer, beautiful beaches such as Playa Bonita and Villa Tacul welcome sun-bathers; brave lake swimmers venture into its cold waters (chilled by melting snow). Lake Nahuel Huapi averages 14 °C in the summertime. Bariloche is the biggest city of a huge Lakes District, and it serves as a base for many excursions in the region. Activities such as fishing, whitewater rafting, and birdwatching are popular with tourists. Trekking in the nearby mountain wilderness is supported by a few high-mountain huts operated by the Club Andino Bariloche. The city is also noted for its chocolates and Swiss-style architecture. Many high school students in Argentina take a senior trip to Bariloche, and the town is well prepared to host these kinds of groups.
The city is served by San Carlos de Bariloche International Airport (IATA BRC/ICAO SAZS) equipped to receive any kind of aircraft. Several of Argentina's most important airlines maintain regular flights to Bariloche, as well as some international lines from neighbouring countries, especially during the ski season. The city is linked by train with the city of Viedma through the Tren Patagonico that crosses Argentina from the Andes to the Atlantic Ocean. San Carlos de Bariloche lies close to the Chilean border and is connected to Chile by the Cardenal Antonio Samoré Pass crossing the Andes Mountains. The city has a terminal railway station that links it to Viedma. The main Neighbourhoods are Belgrano, Jardín Botánico, Melipal, Centro, Las Victorias, Las Marias, Dos Valles, and Playa Bonita.
The soaring peaks of Cerros Catedral, López, Nireco and Shaihuenque (to name just a few) – all well over 2000m high – ring the town, giving picture-postcard views in nearly every direction. These mountains aren’t just for gazing, though – excellent snow coverage (sometimes exceeding 2m at the end of the season) makes this a winter wonderland, and a magnet for skiers and snowboarders. In summertime the nature buffs take over, hitting the hills to climb, hike trails, fish for trout and ride mountain bikes and horses.

Buenos Aires Travel: Calle Florida, Abasto, Parque Centenario
On my last afternoon in Buenos Aires on November 14, 2011 I headed to Calle Florida for two reasons: one, to ride on Line A, the oldest subway line of the city. Opened in 1913, it was the first subway line in all of South America and the subway cars in use today are still the same ones as when the first line opened. Secondly, I needed to exchange some cash for my last few hours in the city, and got into the usual 30 to 45 minute line-up at a money exchange. Along the way I admired the architecture and the crazy hustle and bustle on BA's most famous pedestrian shopping street.
My hotel manager had recommended to me to visit the Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes, originally a water pumping station completed in 1894 that was completed in the style of a French Renaissance palace. The façade features 300,000 glazed multi-colour terracotta tiles manufactured by Royal Doulton and is visually stunning. The building now also houses a Museum of Sanitation, but unfortunately it was closed on Monday when I dropped by.
The next place on my list of last places to visit in Buenos Aires was the Abasto Shopping Centre. Also suggested by Graciela, this magnificent Art Deco masterpiece is usually off the main tourist tracks. Located in the Balvanera neighbourhood (also called Once), the current building was opened in 1934 and served as a vegetable and fruit market until 1984. After some years of abandonment, it was finally restored and refunctioned as a shopping mall that opened in 1999, thankfully preserving this stunning jewel from the 1930s. It became one of my favourite buildings in Buenos Aires.
My last sightseeing excursion in Buenos Aires was to the Parque Centenario, designed by famous French-Argentine urbanist Charles (Carlos) Thays. It was completed in 1910 for the 100th anniversary of Argentina's May Revolution and is a popular urban oasis today. This circular green space has a fountain in the middle and a large pond and is surrounded by institutions such as the Louis Pasteur Institute, the Natural Sciences Museum and the Friends of Astronomy observatory. It was a great place to relax for a few moments on my last day in Buenos Aires.
