MUSEO DELLA COLLEGIATA - Castiglione Olona (Varese)

English:
The “Compagnia dei Folli” was founded in 1984 by a group of young actors who approached the art of street and image theater with the dream of telling stories and legends through a particular tool: stilts. Inspired by the medieval grallatores, the Folli stage shows in Italy and abroad with stilts, fire and fireworks, transforming the squares and streets into magical and fantastic places.
In the first years of life, the Compagnia dei Folli made itself known for the shows staged during the most important historical re-enactments, but over the years it has managed to make its productions appreciated also in different fields (live broadcasts, events, theater festivals).
The turning point came in 1997 when the Folli decided to enter the world of entertainment professionals and the Company became an entertainment company which employs 4 full-time people and has a staff of 15-20 actors who take turns for the shows.
The experience gained in street theater combined with experiments with mountaineering and speleology techniques lead the Folli to use new scenographic machines, from balloons, to hot air balloons, from steel cables to elastic ropes or to the use of cranes for evolutions of the actors. The productions become increasingly spectacular thanks to the use of fireworks that integrate well with the scenes represented. In recent years he has gained significant experience in the contemporary circus with some actors trained at the most prestigious Italian and foreign circus schools.
Since 2015 the Compagnia dei Folli has been recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture in the Street Theater section.

Since 1984 there have been about twenty shows produced, some still on tour.
Since 2001 the Company has restored, after 250 years, the famous tradition of the Flight of the Angel from the bell tower of Piazza San Marco in Venice for the beginning of the Carnival celebrations. For 10 years it was the Compagnia dei Folli that took care of the technical realization of the descent on a steel cable for a girl (usually a well-known face from TV or sports).
The Company has collected numerous performances of its shows in Italy and abroad: tours in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Belgium. He has also crossed the European borders with important trips to Algeria (at the Festival Culturel Europèen), in South Africa (at The arts Festival in Grahamstown), in the United Arab Emirates (at the Al Qasba Festival in Dubay), in Russia and in 2011 in Japan as guests of honor at the 20th Daidongei Festival in Shizuoka.
He has participated in many festivals including: International Festival of Theaters from the World of Porto Sant'Elpidio, DteAtRo – Festival Internacional de Alcaniz (Spain), MERCANTIA Street Theater Festival of Certaldo, Sete Sol Sete Lunas in Portimao (Portugal), Arteinparabita with the artistic direction of Michele Placido, La Muralla in Pamplona with the debut of “Tomboilo” new production, Clown & Clown Festival in Monte San Giusto, Veregra Street in Montegranaro and many others.

This video offers in 15 minutes an extract of some of the most beautiful clips taken during the show/performance (which lasted almost 1h) held on the occasion of the annual Palio dei Castelli in Castiglione Olona (VA).

YI M1 1080p@60fps UPSCALED 4K@60fps Quality Test footage

With this video I tested the mirror-less camera YI M1 (all clips shot “hand-held”) in FHD 1080p mode @60fps, with a VIVITAR MC WIDE ANGLE 28mm f2.8 and the NIKKOR/NIKON’s kit lens 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR II, all used in manual mode. The clips have been shot in 1080p @60fps and then upscaled in post to 4K, @60fps. Prior editing, with music and clips cutting + stabilization (ProDAD Mercalli v2.0), little color/contrast/shadows enhancement made in MAGIX FastCut v3.x. Subsequent editing+titling with cinematic look (letter box) and grading carried out in MAGIX Movie Edit Pro. Final video rendered in 4k@60fps, average bit-rate 86Mbps. Video File size: 2.0GB.

This video was made out of several different clips shot yesterday (Sunday, April 8th 2018) in the “Valle Olona” (“Olona” valley) area and surroundings locations, with beautiful country-sides and panoramas, along the omonymous river “Olona”, area that spreads across a vast park, around (but not limited to) the main villages “Castiglione Olona”, “Gornate”, Lozza” and “Castel Seprio”, all located in the province of Varese (IT). Beautiful panoramic views can be enjoyed in the “ Caronno Corbellaro ‘Piana’ (clearing/glade), as well as in the Lozza “Piana”. In this video I included clips shot mainly around “Castiglione Olona old village (well known as being the “Tuscany’s like” angle of Lombardy), full of history, with its beautiful “Collegiata” Museum ( UNESCO site ), its Castle, the old “Valmorea” railway line (now dismissed, its “lavatory ring”, and, not far away, the “Torba Monastery” (“Monastero di Torba”, a UNESCO site: The area, that almost reaches the suburbs of “Busto Arsizio” town (some 10 miles further south) can be explored also by bike. The entire length of the bike-track can take an entire day to explore. For more infos about “Valle Olona” you can visit the website: .

Similar clips have also been shot, in the same places/locations, with my NIKON D3300. This other video will follow (just to make a comparison as for the achieved quality with the two cameras).

Minimal prior/preliminary color correction and/or contrast/brightness/sharpness enhancement was applied to the original and individual clips, very bright and crisp on their own. The final rendering of the video, with cinematic letterbox effect (2.35:1), color-grading and titling, was made via MAGIX Movie Edit Pro, and rendered in 4K UHD 3840x2160p @60fps, 86 Mb/s bit-rate. Video file-size: 2.0 GB. Video duration: 3:16 mins.

It is always exciting when a new journey begins and this too makes no exception: here is the first stage of the Via Francisca del Lucomagno on Italian soil.
It starts from Ponte Tresa, on the border with Switzerland and travels along the Italian shore of Lake Lugano to Lavena.
From here you quickly climb towards the Argentera park with its shady paths and the famous mills.
Along the way we will meet several places with a whimsical name (never heard of Cugliate Fabiasco?) And we will reach Ghirla, where we will be able to admire (from the outside) the Maglio and we will skirt the homonymous lake.
A little effort and we will be at the end of the stage, at the Badia di S. Gemolo in Ganna.
Video divided into two parts.

Rocca di Tentennano o Tintinnano a Castiglione d'Orcia (manortiz)

The Rocca of Tentennano crown a rocky crag upon the medieval suburb of Rocca D'Orcia in the Val D'Orcia, province of Siena. It can be reached from the chief town following the SS2 'Cassia' turning to the right when finding the indications for Rocca D'Orcia/Castiglione D'Orcia.
The first document which testifies the existence of a settlement in this area dates as far as 853 AC Three centuries later, middle of 12th century, Tentennano is in the possession of the Tignosi feudal family, who in 1207 granted a new statute called Charta libertatis to the population which, other than regulating the relationships with the community, acknowledged numerous rights. This act is of fundamental importance in Italian medieval history both for its contents and for the learned style (it starts with a reference to the Roman civil inheritance) and testifies the importance that this place had. Meanwhile, the city-state of Siena was increasing pressure until 1250-1258 when they enter in possession of this castle. Immediately work was carried out to fortify the area. The stones of the fortress were consolidated and a new tower was built to replace the old broken one. But the period of greatest glory had yet to come.
In 1274, together with other areas of the Val D'Orcia it was given to the Salimbeni feudal family. It was part of this powerful family's estate for all the 13th century until a deep feud began between Siena and the Salimbeni. The Tentennano (also called Tintinnano) fortress was chosen by the family to be their stronghold and here they tried to obtain the city's power.
The fighting ended on 22 September 1419 with the surrender of Cocco Salimbeni, the obstinate upstart of Siena who was exiled and deprived of his possessions. The fortress was once again under Senese control. It was to be used for military purposes for the last time in the middle of 16th century which saw the city-state of Siena annexed to that mightiest of Florence. On this occasion, as at the time of salimbeni, it was conquered thanks to the treachery of some troops who opened the gates. Tentennano was never won by force and was occupied only after the surrender of its defenders. After this date the fortress was situated within the Tuscan Gran Duchy and, with the advent of the new fire arms, it lost its defensive function and was gradually abandoned.
The defensive system of Rocca D'Orcia with its Rocca of Tentennano consists of a series of walled enclosures, designed to benefit from the ruggedness of the environment, which had to be progressively overcome by eventual assailants. A first walled circuit (with large areas still well conserved today) enclosed the village of Rocca D'Orcia (which rises at a lower level) and joined it to the fortress. Going back to the entrance gate we can see the ruins of a gate which opened onto the second walled circuit that enclosed the area on which we are now standing. In this area, which is now covered by grass, there once were buildings, streets and squares. Little of this remains today apart from a few walls but the existence of these structures were documented until two centuries ago and perhaps a carefully studied excavation could give us even greater information. Arriving at the extreme north of the plateau we have a splendid view of the Orcia Valley. Going up the series of steps, we get to the mound on our left where we can see the ruins of the second walled circuit and another defense structure. The mound consists of a pentagonal area deprived of plants enclosed by a wall where we can still see traces of battlement and part of a rock outcrop of the hill. This area, used exclusively for military purpose, was reached by a gate of which no traces remains. A walled hollow is found at the center which may have been the powder magazine. From the little court of the mound a metal stairway, installed during the recent restoration parallel to the original ones which were cut out of the thick wall, allow us to reach the walk on the surrounding wall and to enter the tower. Originally there was a movable stair which could be pulled up in case of attack. The powerful large tower has a pentagonal form, two floors and is made enclosing the last outcrop of rock. This besides being an observation post also served as keep ...)
