Tra i più belli al mondo, i Giardini di Castel Trauttmansdorff si trovano vicino Merano. Nel 2013 è stato riconosciuto come Giardino Internazionale dell’anno.
I giardini di Castel #Trauttmansdorff a #Merano sono un ricchissimo e vasto patrimonio naturale, che si presenta lungo 7 sentieri, di cui 3 panoramici, dalla lunghezza totale di circa 7 chilometri su di un terreno di ben 12 ettari. Il dislivello che si percorre visitando questi giardini è di circa 100 metri, ma lo si affronta senza grosse difficoltà.

L’imperatrice d’Austria Elisabetta di Baviera (Sissi) arrivò la prima volta a Merano nel 1870 assieme alle sue due figlie per beneficiare delle cure termali che la città offriva. Per il soggiorno scelse il Castello di Trauttmansdorff, appositamente rinnovato negli arredamenti, dove rimase per diversi mesi. Durante la sua permanenza amava fare delle passeggiate in città e in montagna. Grazie alla rapida guarigione della figlia e alla presenza in città dell’imperatrice, Merano divenne presto meta privilegiata di illustri personalità dell’epoca e anche il Castello divenne un luogo di permanenza molto ambito.

Castello di Poira 4K
L'antico castello sorge in contrada Poira, nella strada che conduce da Paternò a Centuripe. Fu probabilmente edificato in età medievale sui resti di antico centro abitato dai Siculi. L'imponente complesso edilizio costituito da quattro grandi corpi di fabbrica con funzione abitativa, di magazzino, di riparo per gli animali e religiosa, fu sede di una masseria fino alla fine del XX secolo.
In età moderna il castello fu residenza dei baroni Spitaleri di Adernò, proprietari del feudo di Poira[ Qui alla fine dell'Ottocento si verificò il sequestro Spitaleri ad opera della Banda Maurina, un gruppo di briganti attivo nelle campagne del Catanese e del Messinese. I membri della banda assaltarono il castello del barone Spitaleri, per la cui incolumità la banda chiese ed ottenne 50.000 lire. I briganti fecero comunque irruzione nel castello depredandolo, per poi fuggire.
Sulla collina di Poira, nel 1995, la Sopraintendenza ai beni culturali di Catania ha portato alla luce una necropoli ellenistica con tombe del VI e V secolo a.C., contenenti all'interno vasellami di vario stile. Poco lontana la grotta degli Schiavi, probabilmente un Ergastulum romano, dove, al termine del lavoro, venivano posti gli schiavi e incatenato chi si ribellava ai lavori imposti.
Dell'antico edificio oggi rimangono alcuni resti. Si possono ancora vedere tracce della doppia cinta muraria, le feritoie, le finestre strombate, l'enorme cisterna, la cappella e una stanza con i camini. Il sito è stato abbandonato e saccheggiato negli ultimi decenni.
The ancient castle stands in the Poira district, on the road that leads from Paternò to Centuripe. It was probably built in medieval times on the remains of an ancient inhabited center by the Siculi. The imposing building complex consisting of four large buildings with a housing, warehouse, shelter for animals and religious function, was the seat of a farm until the end of the twentieth century.
In modern times the castle was the residence of the Spitaleri barons of Adernò, owners of the fiefdom of Poira [Here at the end of the nineteenth century the Spitaleri kidnapping occurred by the Banda Maurina, a group of brigands active in the countryside of Catania and Messina . The members of the gang assaulted the castle of Baron Spitaleri, for whose safety the gang asked and obtained 50,000 lire. The brigands broke into the castle, however, plundering it, and then fleeing.
On the hill of Poira, in 1995, the Superintendence for Cultural Heritage of Catania brought to light a Hellenistic necropolis with tombs from the 6th and 5th centuries BC, containing vases of various styles inside. Not far away is the Grotta degli Schiavi, probably a Roman Ergastulum, where slaves were placed at the end of the work and those who rebelled against the work imposed were chained.
Some remains of the ancient building remain today. You can still see traces of the double walls, the slits, the splayed windows, the huge cistern, the chapel and a room with fireplaces. The site has been abandoned and looted in recent decades.
