A poca distanza dal centro storico del paese, le grotte di Sant'Angelo meritano di essere visitate. Il complesso di cavità carsiche si estende per 10 chilometri ma di questi solo una parte è visitabile. Oltre allo spettacolo dei monumenti naturali, creati goccia dopo goccia in milioni di anni, di stalattiti e stalagmiti, vaschette e colate, le grotte di Sant’Angelo, sono di grande interesse storico e scientifico. Furono abitate per un lungo periodo dall’uomo preistorico che lasciò la più antica forma di scrittura documentata dagli esperti, come unica e particolare, della Preistoria italiana. Furono sede stabile di comunità agricole del Neolitico Medio (V e IV millennio a.C.)

Cassano All’Ionio, cittadina calabrese della provincia di Cosenza, è chiamata anche “Città delle acque”. La testimonianza della ricchezza d’acqua e anche del buon sistema di distribuzione idrica adottato nei secoli passati, è data dalle tante fontane e fontanelle che si trovano soprattutto nel Centro Storico cittadino. Le fontane, non erano solo un mezzo per l’approvvigionamento pubblico dell’acqua, ma anche ornamento e, soprattutto, luogo d’incontro.
