Casamassima, Puglia, Italy - Travel Tips - 4K UHD - Virtual Trip
Casamassima is one of the many hidden gems of Puglia in Italy. Its origins date back to the 7th and 8th centuries and there are still some remains dating apparently from the 10th century. The city is populated by about 20,000 inhabitants, so it is a medium-sized city, quite discreet and often ignored by tourists. However, Casamassima is only about 20 kilometers from Bari, and there are many other villages to visit in the area: Sammichele di Bari, Acquaviva delle Fonti, Cassano delle Murge, Rutigliano, or Turi. Among these small country towns, Casamassima was one of our favorites! Even in high season, the town and especially its historical center are deserted. The visit is even more enjoyable, especially if you come from cities like Polignano a Mare, Monopoli or Bari!

Continuano la nostra vacanza in Puglia!! In questo nuovo video io e mia sorella visitiamo Bari, città ricca di fascino, con le sue viuzze strette, lo street food e tante cose da vedere!!
Il centro storico di Bari è stupendo, è infatti una delle città che più mi ha colpito della Puglia!
Le cose da vedere sono tantissime, io e Lara ci siamo stati una giornata intera e l’abbiamo girata in lungo e in largo!
Ma in questo video non c’è solo Bari, infatti prima di arrivare nel capoluogo pugliese abbiamo fatto una tappa veloce a Trani, altra città molto affascinante, con un suggestivo porto e la maestosa cattedrale.
Infine abbiamo trascorso una notte ad Ostuni, la città bianca della Puglia, famosa in tutto il mondo.

In this Salento Puglia Italy travel vlog we have our first tiny home experience, staying in a traditional Italian Trullo home. This is a must do in Italy and one of the top things to do in Pulia. We managed to find this luxury tiny home for the budget price of just 35 euros and were blown away by how awesome it was both inside and out!
Trulli are protected under UNESCO world heritage law and can only be found in the Puglia region of southern Italy, near Salento.
This unique tiny house accommodation feels like living in a cave, with it's cone-shaped roof and stone walls. Staying in a Trullo is definitely a unique Italian experience that we would recommend to anyone!

Gravina in Puglia is a town located about 40 km from Bari, on the border between Basilicata and Puglia. It is the seat of the Parco Nazionale dell'Alta Murgia, an area characterised by numerous gravina or canyons, some of which are a hundred metres deep. Further south and down to the sea through the Parco Regionale della Murgia Materana, there are similar towns, perched and sometimes literally cut in two by canyons: Matera, Ginosa, Castellanota, Laterza are good examples. This region, on the border between two of the most beautiful regions of Italy, is a real treasure for those who love old villages, caves and beautiful landscapes!

CONSIDERAZIONE PERSONALE SUL FUTURO:
A titolo personale ritengo che il celeberrimo Ponte sullo Stretto debba prima o poi essere realizzato; tale progetto è altamente auspicabile, non solo in termini di funzionalità, ma anche per portare una grossa spinta allo sviluppo delle regioni Calabria e Sicilia. Si verrebbe a creare un unico collegamento autostradale senza soluzione di continuità tra Milano e Palermo; in tale ottica nella mia personale visione futura della rete autostradale, unirei i percorsi interi dell'attuale A1 da Milano a Caserta nord, della A30, della A2 e della A20, compendendoli tutti in una nuova A1 Autostrada del Sole che porta da Milano a Palermo passando per Bologna, Firenze, Roma, Napoli (Caserta), Salerno, Reggio Calabria (Villa San Giovanni) e Messina.
Lo stretto di Messina è un braccio di mare che separa l'Italia peninsulare (Calabria) ad est dall'isola di Sicilia e, più in generale, quest'ultima dall'Europa continentale ad ovest, collegando i mari Tirreno e Ionio e bagnando le città metropolitane di Reggio Calabria e Messina, con una larghezza minima di circa 3,14 km tra i comuni di Villa San Giovanni e di Messina.
Localmente chiamato u Strittu, noto nell’antichità come stretto di Scilla e Cariddi dal nome dei due mostri omonimi di Scilla e Cariddi che secondo le leggende funestavano la navigazione tra Calabria e Sicilia, in seguito fu noto come fretuum siculum e, in tempi più recenti, come faro di Messina, denominazione puramente geopolitica risalente al regno medievale di Sicilia.
Nel 1957 la rete elettrica di trasmissione siciliana fu collegata a quella continentale da un elettrodotto aereo che sovrappassava lo Stretto; benché ormai non più utilizzate per via del passaggio, nel 1992, a una più pratica soluzione con cavi elettrici sottomarini, le strutture di sostegno dell’opera sulle due sponde sono rimaste come esempio di archeologia industriale e note come piloni dello Stretto.
L'attraversamento dello stretto tra Calabria e Sicilia avviene tramite i seguenti collegamenti:
Villa San Giovanni (RC) - Messina (7 km): rotta effettuata dai traghetti di Caronte & Tourist, Ferrovie dello Stato e Bluferries e i mezzi veloci di Blu Jet; è attualmente l'unica tratta che permette l'attraversamento ferroviario tra le due sponde; per consentire ciò, vengono impiegati dei traghetti appositi. Il tempo totale impiegato per la traversata e i suoi preparativi è di quasi 2 ore (calcolato come il tempo che intercorre tra l'arrivo del treno a Villa San Giovanni e il momento in cui il treno è in grado di ripartire da Messina)
Reggio Calabria - Messina (11 km):
su questa tratta un tempo veniva svolto l'intero traffico dello Stretto fino alla costruzione dell'approdo di Villa San Giovanni, permettendo di alleggerire il traffico nel porto di Reggio sfruttando la minore distanza che intercorre tra le due coste a nord;
Reggio Calabria - Tremestieri (ME) (11 km):
l'imbarco avviene dal porto di Reggio Calabria verso il nuovo approdo di Tremestieri, inaugurato nel 2005 nella zona sud di Messina, tramite le navi di Meridiano Lines;
Villa San Giovanni (RC) - Tremestieri (ME) (14 km): gran parte del traffico pesante si svolge dall'approdo di Villa San Giovanni verso il nuovo approdo di Tremestieri, in ampliamento per liberare totalmente il porto di Messina dal traffico dello stretto.

COSA VEDERE IN PUGLIA: Sannicandro di Bari Castello Svevo Normanno | Segreti e Bugie

Sui ruderi di una preesistente struttura fortificata, i Normanni realizzarono un presidio militare, con quattro torri d'angolo e una cortina di collegamento. In seguito, nel periodo del Regno di Ruggero II di Sicilia il Castello venne ampliato con la costruzione del Palazzo, le quattro torri centrali rompitratta, il fossato e il portale a Levante. Il Signore del Castello nel periodo regnicolo è Guido Da Venosa, che ne prende possesso nel 1133 in occasione della creazione della Contea sperimentale di Conversano. Nel 1155 ritroviamo lo stesso Guido Da Venosa come Signore di Casamassima e a Sannicandro di Bari interviene un nuovo castellano, un certo Guglielmo De Tot. Il Castello era censito per 10 cavalieri alla pesante e 20 in caso di guerra secondo il Catalogo dei Baroni, dunque un maniero demaniale e di rilevante importanza.
Periodo svevo
Nel periodo Svevo il Castello venne ulteriormente modificato ed ingrandito, in quanto doveva rispondere a nuove funzioni: il passaggio dei convogli per il trasferimento di uomini e vettovaglie dirette in Terra Santa. La documentazione offre un preciso riferimento, a cominciare dal censimento del 1168, il cosiddetto Catalogus Baronum o meglio Quaternus magnae expeditionis, che contiene il registro delle forze militari straordinarie mobilitate negli anni dal 1150 al 1168 dai re Normanni nel Ducatus Apuliae e nel Principatus Capue. Negli anni del Baliaggio Templare il castello era costituito da nove torri.
Periodo angioino
L'avvento della dominazione angioina fu decisivo per la storia del paese. Si racconta che il principe Carlo d'Angiò, imprigionato in Sicilia, avesse domandato la protezione di san Nicola di Bari, il quale, apparendogli, gli avrebbe assicurato la liberazione. Ottenuta la libertà e tornato a Napoli col titolo regale, Carlo II d'Angiò volle rimunerare il Santuario del santo, alla cui intercessione attribuiva la salvezza, di ampie rendite e ricchissime donazioni. Nel 1304, per concessione dei re angioino, il feudo di Sannicandro passò, dunque, alla Basilica di S.Nicola di Bari e incominciò per esso un periodo di relativa stabilità. In quegli anni, il Castello non fu mai abitato dal Priore-Barone perché questi risiedeva presso la Corte Reale di Napoli. Fu perciò adibito a sede dell'Amministrazione dell'azienda agricola della Baronia ed in alcuni locali a pianterreno furono impiantati un mulino ed un frantoio per la produzione di olio.
Epoca moderna
L'autorità dei Baroni-Priori del Capitolo di San Nicola di Bari durò cinque secoli, fino al 1806, anno in cui fu pubblicata la legge del Re Giuseppe Bonaparte che abolì il feudalesimo. Il feudo fu, dunque, assoggettato al regime di una comune proprietà privata ed il Real Capitolo di San Nicola entrò nel ruolo di un semplice usufruttario di beni immobili.
Il Castello, che durante gli anni dell'amministrazione nicolaiana aveva mantenuto la sua linea originaria, tra il 1806 ed il 1875 fu barbaramente rovinato. Per colmare il vuoto prodotto dalla perdita dei diritti feudali, infatti, sorse il problema del reperimento di nuove fonti di entrata per il mantenimento della Basilica e del Capitolo di San Nicola: la cinta esterna fu, dunque, aperta in più varchi per ricavarne porte e finestre da adibire a botteghe, abitazioni, stalle, negozi che assicurassero una rendita al Capitolo nicolaiano; il fossato fu colmato, la galleria sotterranea ostruita, le finestre bifore furono deturpate e trasformate in balconi.
Tempi recenti
Nel 1951 il titolo nobiliare passò dal Priore di San Nicola all'Arcivescovo di Bari e, con atto pubblico del 12 dicembre 1967, il Comune di Sannicandro di Bari, sindaco il prof. Nicola Casamassima, acquistò il Castello per la somma di lire 10.500.000. Dopo una serie di restauri, il Castello è fruibile ai visitatori.

Located in the country’s south-east, Puglia includes what most people call the “heel” of Italy, also known as the Salentine Peninsula and including the cities of Bari and Lecce. It’s not very well-known in the UK, but to the French it is a beloved destination.
Resorts like Polignano al Mare are teaming with sun-worshipers, looking for a little strip of Mediterranean sand to go and lie on. Which is easier said than done, because the beaches aren’t massive.
When British people think about Italy, they tend to think of Rome, Venice, Florence, the Amalfi Coast, Milan and the lakes, even Sicily, but Puglia is proof there’s a whole lot more to it than that.
With the coastline littered with small fortified towns, Puglia distinctly has a colour scheme. The buildings are limestone or painted white, with cute little blue or green shutters. And all the boats are blue too! It’s simple, but absolutely beautiful.
Inland, Puglia borders the incredibly rustic Basilicata. With the Appenine Mountains forming the spine of Italy, the further inland you go, the more mountainous it becomes, with towns and villages clinging high on the mountainsides, built to take advantage of their vantage points across the valleys below. The views are absolutely spectacular from the top, but the streets are narrow, winding and Google maps gets completely lost when you’re zigzagging your way through the ancient alleyways. And while the coast is thoroughly used to welcoming tourists, the inland towns are a lot less prepared, so you’ll struggle to find anywhere for lunch when everything shuts for four hours in the middle of the day.
Toward the bottom of the heel and you come to the city of Lecce. If Lecce was in any other country, it would be trumpeted as the nation’s tourist hotspot, but because it lives in the permanent shadow of the other more famous Italian cities, it has remained relatively undiscovered. But there’s a reason why it’s known as the “Florence of the South”, with its medieval streets littered with Baroque architecture that could rival Rome itself. Because of its location, a city has been in this spot since before even the Romans, with a city existing here since at least the time of the Trojan War when it was colonised by the Mycenean Greeks. And the evidence of its long and glorious past can be seen throughout its remarkably preserved historic centre.
Puglia is the hottest part of Italy, with temperatures of forty plus degrees in summer not that uncommon. It borders the Adriatic Sea to the East, so the prevailing winds are coming from inland. But if you do need to cool down, I can think of worse places than heading underground to some of the remarkable Grottos that honeycomb the bedrock of parts of the area. We went to the Grotta del Trullo, which were remarkable caverns dripping with stalactites and stalagmites. So why is it called Grotta del Trullo? I’m glad you asked.Yes, but I know you wanted to. It’s because there’s a trullo on top of it! And what’s a trullo, you ask? Trullos are small whitewashed houses with stone cone roofs that are unique to this area of Italy. And nowhere can you see more of these distinctive buildings than in Alberobello.
The people of the area were forced to build trulli because their particularly mean landlords wanted them to live in structures that could be easily knocked down when they tired of having them living on their land. Trulli were traditionally dry-stone buildings, built without any mortar, which meant they could be dismantled easily and reduced to just a pile of stones. But thankfully, thousands of these have survived to the present day, with most of them here in this remarkable UNESCO World Heritage Site.
